i've been watching you so much lately and i'm not in a good mood actually i'm not good at all and you're just giving me a little bit space to breathe. ty emma, for being here for helping me breathe with the beautiful and unique word of yours. seeing you feels like my heart can actually experience the good you know. i'm kind of suicidal and when you're like that the things that are making you happy is not something that you can have all the time. so thank you for being it. thank you for being the one who's making me happy.
Hope things get better for you. Sending you love and virtual hugs❤
sending all the love in the world to u, my dear. u r loved 🤍🤍

❤️
I've felt this! Hope you get better soon. You're valuable and lovely
I've been having a weirdly anxious couple of days as I'm having my finals in the coming week and have found I just couldn't settle, but this video really calmed me down and mellowed me out, so thank you!
me too, things have been a little rough over here but you’ve got this!! So much love💕💕
I start finals tomorrow as well! Good luck, we'll get through it!
Good luck! Hope things get better for you. Sending you love and virtual hugs❤
finals season is giving us all a hard time unfortunately but we can get through it! good luck ❤️
"Do I need anything in life?"
That's exactly what goes through my head too. I ended up getting rid of 90% of everything I own last year and am hoping to get rid of even more. I realized I don't really need anything
e-books and e-reading change my whole reading life for the better, best decision i’ve made when it comes to reading books, honestly i recommend it to every single reader out there, a kindle it’s great for everyone, even if you think you are not an e-reader and only like to read physical books…trust me, you won’t be disappointed with the kindle. I used to only read physical books and then got my kindle and now i read more e-books than physical ones, so try it!
great vlog Emma!
Same here
same
I have a severe visual impairment that’s not correctable and the Kindle changed my life. I’m not able to read physical books comfortably. I love that the Kindle actually looks like a page of a book, like you said!
I love all your videos, but I think these weekly day-in-the-life vlogs are my favorite. Beautifully honest and inspiring. Thank you for taking us along.
I am so looking forward to this year. After three years of a lot of trauma and unwanted change, I feel like this year I will emerge from the mud of life and bloom. After discovering you through my journey into reading classics I never have, your videos have been so helpful in moving through a crappy space, peaceful comforting and a reminder of the simple joys in life. Those are the best.
Happy New Year Emma! Cheers!
And Happy New Year Emma's Grandma! ❤️
it feels so good to go into a different season. winter cleaning and decluttering I love it. my goodness it was so windy when you were carrying your new plant baby, reminded me of an older video of a plant you rescued in the snow! lol. love your cozy reading vlogs emmie! xoxo 🥰🖤
ah yes Nori :’) forever in our hearts. Thank you lovely!💕

@@emmiereads ❤️
my kindle is one of my favorite things in the world. I love how I can take it everywhere, it contains so many books inside of it, and, honestly, I find it incredibly comfortable and practical to read in it. It was a game changer. I recommend it so much! Plus, in places like the beach or the lake where sometimes it's hard to read books because of how the sunlight reflects on the pages, the kindle is amazing because that doesn't happen with its screen. Hope you also enjoy your kindle reading experience!!
By the way, I've also been decluttering a lot these last couple of weeks. Clothes, books, etc. I think it has to do with the new year,. I think it's nice to feel that with the new year you also start your life organized and with a cleaned space 🥰
I felt like I wanted to move on from Christmas a little earlier than usual too this year. happy new year, emmie!
Mrs Dalloway is one of the only two books ever that made me think I couldn't read it in english, I needed a translation in my own language. The sentences were way too convoluted for me, it gave me an headache and I gave up. But I previously read Orlando, A room of one's own and To the lighthouse and loved them (especially the latter)
emma's videos are always so calming, i love them so much!
Have a lot of fun
As a new subscriber let me just say that the space you've created here is amazing, Emma. So many people gather at this channel to find peace, relatability, and comfort. To share gentle laughs, and express the things on our minds. We all have something going on (there's always something isn't there?) But through this we can be reminded of the small things. For me, you remind me of my passion for words and the escapism books can bring.
You've created a cinematic journal centered around pages 🖤❄🕯📖
I love my kindle paperwhite. I have bad eyesight too and I love being able to make the font bigger, plus the screen has no reflection and you can actually read it outside! I especially love it for travel since it fits in my smallish purse.
i love that you enjoy the kindle so far! many people dont love ebooks but the kindle screen definitely makes the experience better i think.
i subscribed only a few days ago, but i have binge watched some of ur videos and now i have so much to read for the rest of the year!! thank u for sharing ur love for books and sharing bits of ur life with us. happy new year, emma! 💕
Awe hi! So nice to meet you - I hope you find so many good books🥰 happy new year!
Oh and I highly recommend The Waves by Virginia Woolf (one of my favourite books of all time)! I can't remember much from Mrs Dalloway because it wasn't my favourite Virginia Woolf novel but I feel like the style is similar when it comes to the stream of consciousness and the attention to detail but it covers such a bigger scope of life and people and character that I couldn't compare the two. I can't really explain it well but for me personally the Waves is a masterpiece!
I tried reading E-book once and it was hard my eyes got tired very easily but i get why people love it
I just recently discovered your channel, and I love your contents. Hope you will notice me.
"i became a little bit like a couch." for some reason i pictured you turning into a couch in a dickens novel.
happy new year, emma. i hope only good things happen to you and your loved ones this year. thank you for being such a warm and cosy presence in this cruel world.
Yeah, one of the reasons I use e-books exclusively is so that I can make the font humongous and make the line spacing also humongous lol.
I spent my 20s pretending I liked drinking. Then I spent my 30s confirming that I actually don’t like drinking. Now at 40 I proudly say “no thank you. I don’t drink.” And when people say “why?!” I reply “ because it sucks.” 😹
Hi! I’d love to hear your thoughts about “The ice palace”. I’m reading it right now and it’s fantastic!
I was crying on my own and then i got the notification it’s just what real friends do thank you emma ❤️❤️❤️
sending you the biggest hug, feel better dear💕
Thank you sweetie 😍😍❤️❤️❤️
Can't believe it's been a year. I found your channel around this time last year, and you were the reason for my 2021 resolution, the inspiration for me to set a reading goal after having fallen out of my love of books in the years prior. Thank you for the wonderful videos, and I hope 2022 treats you well!
?????? You're supposed to take the tree down in February????????? Like excuse mua put that tree back up you're giving it euthanasia??????
ending my day by watching you.....ahhh!❤😍
hope it was a wonderful day🙃
@@emmiereads yes a very productive one😊❤
Hey, Emma. I hope that whatever you're going through/feeling at the moment that makes you sad will soon pass. It is weird how this time of the year makes one reflect a lot. Maybe it's a pandemic of another kind...though the symptoms (reflections) varies. Lol. Take care. Eat well, read well, rest well, and thank you for the videos you bring. :) You're very much appreciated!
You take your decorations down before new year?
I had Covid over Christmas and New Years and just getting back into work and feeling ok again on the 10/1 is feeling very strange. I feel I’m a month behind everyone in every aspect. I never celebrated the year with my family and I never got to ring in the new one with my friends and yes I feel sorry for myself haha but mostly just feeling very strange time-wise. Anyone else?
It’s me, Virginia Woolf girl back again 💁🏼♀️
The short answer is yes-all of Woolf’s novels are psychological and most would fall under the stream of conscious style.
I would still give To the Lighthouse a try if you want to continue with Woolf. I would say that at my university, that one was more popular than Mrs. Dalloway. I think it might be more relatable because it discusses childhood and feelings of loneliness and how the past effects us. In some ways, it’s more serious than Mrs. D, at least, more overtly serious because some really heavy stuff happens in Mrs. D.
If stream of conscious is not your thing, stay away from The Waves (even though that is my second favorite) and especially Jacob’s Room (it is a wild ride though). Those two in particular are more psychological and further into stream of conscious.
I say most are stream of conscious because her first two novels, The Voyage Out and Night and Day, technically aren’t. I haven’t read Night and Day, but a lot of people love it and it is pretty conventional (at least for Woolf). I think The Voyage Out is more enjoyable if you’re really analyzing her journey as a writer.
I am so incredibly excited you read my favorite book. Thank you for another incredible video!
I hope that your family is feeling better and you are doing well! ❤️
If you are having a hard time with Virginia Woolf, try reading her essay A Room of Ones Own. It's about how hard it is for woman to become a published writer in the early 20th century. It's considered one of her best books.
I really didn’t like Mrs Dalloway. I suppose I should try it again but it wasn’t up my alley when I read it yrs ago. It was too much stream of consciousness fir me.
Ditto
Emma, I have to say it's been such a pleasure watching you this year and knowing that no matter what I can come back to your videos and have this comforting space. I love thinking how we're all just going through things and through life and we can still connect through something like these videos. I guess i feel very grateful for what you do and I hope you have a happy and healthy 2022🥰✨
You should read Orlando! For me it was the “easiest” book frio Virgínia Woolf (ive read to the lighthouse, mrs dalloway and Orlando)
I took my Christmas stuff down couple days after Christmas now to set up for Valentine's month
where did you get your kindle case?? i love it!!
honestly whenever you post it makes my day SO much
🥰
I swear this week has been one of the toughest ones I've had in a while and your updates have been there for me more than some close friends. I'm navigating a lot of changes right now and anxiety is kicking me in the butt. Thanks for remaining ever kind and soft and comforting Emma ✨🥺 even when you're not feeling your best yourself
that intro gave me such a nostalgic feeling :’)
Sorry to hear you didn't get to see your family, your dress looked beautiful
the immediate feeling of happiness and excitement I feel when I see you’ve uploaded 💛
Very calming and refreshing, that's what your vids do. Thank you
i was about to say you just taking your decoretions off but i see it was at the end of december.
Awesome
Yes!! Eggnog tastes like bubblegum! I don't know why.... but I've never heard anyone else that thinks so too haha!
My classes are starting soon and I’ve been doing my best not to feel anxious about them or not to think about it much so I binge-watched your videos just earlier then I see this!! Thank you so much for your uploads, Emma. They really do bring me a sense of comfort which I can’t even begin to explain. Hope you are having kind and soft days!
yes! Mine start tomorrow and I’ve been a little anxious about them as well, I’m so glad these videos are comforting💙
Swashbuckle is my new favourite word
Happy New Year Emma. I remember in my last year of uni feeling very unsettled because I was at a cross roads with no idea of what to do next. More study? Job? What job? Where? If that's what you are experiencing right now hang in there! It's excruciating but will work itself out.
yeah definitely feeling a little lost with everything going on right now, thank you so much for the kind words💙
Amazing
Thanks for the oasis of peace that each of your videos is and, by the way, best wishes for 2022! You look great in each of the four looks you get here!
Thank you Juan! Sending you and your loved ones all the good wishes for this year☺️
@@emmiereads Same to your loved ones, of course! And special greetings to grandma! I somehow hope she reads this comment (^.^)/
If Mrs. Dalloway isn't your thing then definitely don't pick up To the Lighthouse any time soon. Try her essays/lectures, A Room of One's Own.
Orlando I would say is a slightly different style- the Virginia Woolf I actually enjoyed- so would recommend giving that one a go if you haven’t yet
Hey Emma, happy new year! If you’re not getting along with the plotlessness of Mrs Dalloway but you like Virgina Woolf’s writing you might prefer “The Voyage Out” (her first publication)? It’s got a clear narrative and is an interesting commentary on colonialism and the common English flaw: the inability to communicate (I’m from the UK…I can confirm the struggle). My favourite Woolf novel however is “To the Lighthouse”, which gives such great insight into the the post-impressionist art movement (greatly inspired by her sister Vanessa Bell, and her Bloomsbury pal Roger Fry). There is also a lot of emphasis on the feminine and many (including me!) like to think that Woolf successfully kills her “Angel in the House” (the Victorian ideal of a domestic goddess, written about in her essay “Professions for Women”) in this novel. Having watched your videos for a while now I get the sense that you’d like a book about art and women thriving. Woolf can be incredibly intimidating and I honestly wouldn’t have ever picked her up but her feminist arguments in “A Room of One’s Own” and her manifesto against fascism in “Three Guineas” lit a fire in me and led me to read many more of her works, as well as other modernist texts. I hope you eventually find some work of hers that you like! Happy reading 🌻
Happy New Year Emmie x thanks for always making my days better ✨🌻💛
Sunday made better
🥰
Since getting an iPad Mini, about seven years ago, I have read more than ever before, at least 200 classic novels, all downloaded for free; all Dickens' novels, currently reading Lorna Doone.
Last year I saw a beautiful Victorian house with a Christmas tree still standing well into March, its lights aglow in an upstairs room.
The house is on a steep hill, Observatory Road, in the West End of my Scottish city. Houses here have engraved glass windows and porches.
Like you I take down decorations on Boxing Day. Don't feel sad. Canada in winter is the place I have always wanted to visit, sounds magical.
hiii emma, im wondering where ur dark green office chair is from bc its literally perfect and exactly what I've been looking for!!
Hi Emma, really like your video. I just wanted to ask where you got the beautiful green cover for your kindle? I’ve been holding off buying one since i didn’t like the official cases from Amazon or any of third party ones.
Your first time going online, I've been exclusively online since march 2020🙃
I was the only university online last year when everyone was in person for a month. At this point, I would start crying if I had to go back and see so many people at once. I was an introvert always, now it's just criminal.
I actually liked monster's narrative over Frankenstein's. It was full with emotions. Frankenstein's filled me with anger. Should read it again. I also feel very relaxed when there are less stuff. I encourage you to try minimalism and less waste atleast for some time. It's a nice feeling. Btw I really like your earrings at 23:54 😍😅 i had to double check if i was seeing right. Cute ones.
Re: Kindle, I'll never give up physical books altogether but at least where I am e-readers are also really great for library books. My library system has about 45000 books available for Kindle, so there's been many occasions where I decide I want to read something on a whim and it's instantly available from my library without having to leave my house. I also try to check the discounts every day and I see something I want to read that I know I either can't get from my library or there will be a long wait time and it's only a couple dollars, I'll pick it up.
I'm currently three months pregnant and the nausea is real. This video eased my discomfort. So sweet of you to home a new plant you shared a feeling with and your new year dress looked beautiful on you! Hangovers are a chore to nurse! Though, sometimes it comes as part of the package of having a great night with friends ;) I hope you've been able to go back to in-person classes or will be able to soon! Hugs from Texas :)
If you think the monster's narrative is long, try reading The Last Man by Mary Shelley. I still can't get through it, it's sooooooo long.
Did I hear making soup or soap? Couldn’t you share some discreet pictures of your party please?
you should read orlando!! it's definitely easier to read then mrs. dalloway (although still tricky) and it has rlly cool magical realism vibes!
Mrs Dalloway is definitedly not the best to introduce yourself to Virginia Woolf because that stream of consciousness style took her a while to develop and that novel is very dense. She was inspired by Ulysses so yeah, kinda hard to follow hehehe. I'd day To the Lighthouse is pretty similar, but not all of them are like that. I don't know why but I think you'd really like The Waves :D It's still stream of consciousness but it's not one day, it's the whole relationship of a group of friends through time and you get the chance to know them all and it's more story driven than Mrs Dalloway.
Hi Emma! I was wondering if you could give us the link for your kindle case?📖
I feel the same way about Dalloway. I did not like it at all. I found it filled with rich people problems. Septimus was the only likeable character to me. So yeah, don't feel obliged to defend the book because so many people like it. There's a lot of us who don't like it as well.
Hope you have a good year Emma! Can't wait to see what you get upto! Lots of hugs x
Virginia Woolf writes in stream of consciousness, pretty much how we all think, hoping form one thing to another and back again.
You read two of my favourite books in the same week 😂😂😍😍 Mrs Dalloway is definitely one that takes a lot to get into because of how unusual it is!! I would recommend To The Lighthouse since its written a bit differently (I like to call it mild modernism where as Mrs Dalloway is modernism at its extreme) The monsters narrative (although I love it) is also one of my least favourite parts because of how much he goes on and on 😂😂 also happy belated new years!!
I noticed the dress/curtain whatever it is move right after 5:30 when emmie moves? I hope that's some trick of the light or something, or else your place is haunted. I looked, but didn't see anyone else commenting about it. *shrugs* maybe she caught a thread on it or something.
For me as a Russian person it's so strange to see you take away all the decorations before the New Year because in Russia we celebrate New Year as western world celebrates Christmas: lights, decorations, fir trees, even old classic jazz songs (of course on top of our own traditions). Anyway, happy new year and thanks as always for your soulful and calming videos.
I am having the worst day and have been feeling sad and lonely for a few weeks now. This vlog atmosphere was exactly what I needed when having my tea this morning. Thank you!
Party Hostess Emma is very elegant, but Hungover Emma is super cute!
Do a video about how your days look like if possible, please. I am quite curious to know.
I'm living for that dark navy dress - soo gorgeous xx 🥰
I feel like you would really enjoy the wit and charm of Wolf's Orlando
Is that a 'Woods' shower curtain? If yes, where did you get it from?? If not, what is it?
Can't wait for this year's New célébration
I am not really sure you will be able to answer me but.. Which city and country are you from? Where do you live now?
Nice 👍 house 🏡 and I like that Christmas 🎄
Last day before school starts up again and I'm really not looking forward to being completely online, but I'm glad to have a nice emmie video to keep my chin up for a bit.
I’m right there with you, I start tomorrow online :/ I know making these videos are gonna help me so much get through school so hopefully I can share things that work for me on here too!
I am in a struggle between ageing and getting a job and procrastination.. I am done for... I just don't understand how others enjoy and chill while I stuck at laziness and negativity at home😑
No one:
Emmie the day after Christmas: You’re done. You’re done.
Happy new year from France ! I love this video !
"first time in my life ever being hungover" *cries in mid to late 20s*
WoW was this warm, i would love to see the newly organised bookcases, now that all the books will form a clean line along their shelves. this video was so warm, Thank you so much. wow there's 222k subs now, Congratulations.

Thank you Lisa!!🥰🥰
This video just changed my life for a bit, keepem coming🤞🏻💞
Lol I feel like everyone underestimates how lovely it is to read on Kindle
First!!
Love all your vlogs! I like Mrs Dalloway a lot, but if you want to read a different work of Virginia, i recommend Orlando or Flush. Your dresses for the new year are gorgeous, i really like your style. 💖✨
