I have a data table with the expected hours for the year by product line. Within each product line there is a list of skills that are expected to perform that work. The skills may work on multiple product lines and some skills might not be used on some product lines. So the sum of all the skills would equal the sum of all product lines if calculated separately. Is there a way to maintain the requirement for a skill within a product line apart from the skill as a whole on a monthly basis but still be able to maintain the individual aggregation capability
Hmm, it's a good question! I think maybe a FIXED function is your best bet. Something like... { FIXED [Product Line],[Skills]:SUM([Hours])} Hard to say without digging into it together but here is a primer on FIXED functions: onenumber.biz/blog-1/2024/3/13/how-fixed-tableau-level-of-detail-function-works
I don't usually select dimension from the quick select list like that but it looks like that initiated specific dimensions and selected category but de-selected sub-category. You can read up on how Specific Dimensions work here: onenumber.biz/blog-1/2018/1/18/tableau-table-calculations-what-does-specific-dimensions-mean

This is amazing! Exactly what I was looking for and I can apply this to my dashboard right away after learning. Thank you Eric!
That's so great to hear you already have a use case! Thank you for letting us know!!
At 7:45 , What happens if you perform the table calculation across the Category dimension? Does it return the same result?
