  • Both the BMW R1200GS and the BMW R1250GS are popular adventure touring motorcycles. However, in 2023, you may want to consider the following factors when deciding between the two:
    Engine Performance:
BMW R1200GS: The R1200GS is equipped with a 1170cc boxer-twin engine, which delivers approximately 125 horsepower and 92 lb-ft of torque. It's a capable and reliable engine, suitable for various riding conditions.
BMW R1250GS: The R1250GS features an upgraded 1254cc boxer-twin engine with BMW's ShiftCam technology. This technology enhances low-end torque and overall power output. It produces around 136 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque, offering slightly more performance.
    Technology and Electronics:
BMW R1200GS: While it has some advanced features, it may not be as tech-savvy as the R1250GS, lacking some of the latest electronic advancements.
BMW R1250GS: The R1250GS comes with more advanced electronics, including improved rider aids, connectivity options, and an enhanced TFT display. Features like adaptive cruise control and updated riding modes may be available, offering a more sophisticated riding experience.
    Riding Experience:
BMW R1200GS: Known for its reliability and versatility, the R1200GS is a proven performer on and off-road. It provides a balanced and comfortable riding experience suitable for long-distance touring.
BMW R1250GS: The R1250GS builds upon the R1200GS's strengths, offering a refined and even more capable ride, especially with its ShiftCam engine technology. It may handle varying road and terrain conditions with greater ease.
    Price:
BMW R1200GS: Being an older model, the R1200GS might be available at a lower price in the used market, making it a cost-effective choice for some riders.
BMW R1250GS: The R1250GS, being the newer and more technologically advanced model, is likely to come with a higher price tag.
    Availability and Model Updates:
Check for any model updates or revisions in 2023, as BMW could introduce changes or improvements to the R1250GS or its successor.
Ultimately, the choice between the BMW R1200GS and R1250GS in 2023 will depend on your specific riding preferences, budget, and how important the latest technology and performance enhancements are to you. It's a good idea to test ride both models and consider your riding needs and expectations to make an informed decision.

Sure its worth to buy, but depends on the km and Price someone ask for it?
In my opinion its always important to see what fits me well.
Is it the GSA with low km as i want to travel a lot with it or is it myabe the GSA that is younger but has more km as i dont drive so much with it.

@@majestix_adv yeah it has Low miles around 7160 miles but BMW gsa gives 3 years and 36000 miles of warranty if I purchase 2016 I cannot purchase extended warranty there is a grace period like the motorcycle should be within 36 months to have extended warranty.. Anyways I would only ride during summer we have winter days ..But I love to do long tours with GSA .. not sure if it worth to keep it for a longer time

Is the R1250GS really an adventure bike? At one time BMW was the RTW bike of choice. Now it's a bike that no one chooses for RTW. Who ever heard of an adventure bike for which the manufacturer will not provide a service manual?

You see a lot people still going for BMW to do RTW trips.....
The basic stuff you find in the manual of the bike....

@@majestix_adv A lot of people? Really? Care to cite some? The basic stuff hardly suffices when you are in the middle of nowhere and no dealership anywhere. Best to restrict "adventures" to within towing distance of a dealership.

@@LouisStreet so bike would be your choice? If you would go for a RTW trip....
What would you be able to repair on this bike in the middel of nowwhere?

@@majestix_adv I suggest you peruse the Horizons Unlimited forum for an appreciation of what real adventure riders are choosing as motorcycles up to the task. You missed the point - a newer BMW has very many more points of vulnerability that can leave one stranded thanks to the excessive amount of superfluous technology. Potential repairs in the field have changed little over the years and a competent DIYer can handle all the usual stuff. What a rider in the middle of nowhere is helpless to address is a bike that won't run because some electronic system whose function isn't actually mission critical has failed. RTW riders chose bikes with proven reliability and SIMPLICITY because there are less point of vulnerability. BMW has evolved away from adventure riders to cater to those who have a fascination with technological gadgetry and a willingness to buy the latest new feature. Because BMW makes much of its profit on financing new purchases it constantly comes out with new features to maintain new bike churn. The new stuff often introduces new points of failure that usually get corrected over time but then more new stuff comes out with more new points of failure. One valued characteristic of real RTW bikes is that they are a mature platform with a record of reliability.

@@majestix_adv And what about the REPLACEMENT of the driveshaft as part of scheduled maintenance??? That's just over the top.
