@@plokenv that's the whole point of why sacrifices worked, white's rooks weren't even in the game. If you literally took them out, the moves wouldn't change at all.

Alpha Zero : piece activity
Pieces don't matter as long as you have the attacking initiative. For example, if your opponent took the knight you'd be down 2 pieces, but the opponent would have 2 completely stuck rooks doing absolutely nothing, so your opponent can still be overpowered if you can bring your pieces to the attack. The moment you give your opponent the opportunity to develop those rooks is when you are lost, so you either have to checkmate before that happens or force the opponent to give back pieces to prevent it.
EDIT: and even though it was in the middle of the video when I wrote above, kind of foresaw the opponents rooks never moving even once during the game. So, it wasn't black that was down a rook right before the checkmate, it was white.
This also tells us why we shouldn't always believe stockfish evaluation. A blunder is only a blunder if your opponent can take advantage of it
The thing with Stockfish is that it always assume best play from both sides, which at the human level aren't going to happen. Even GMs will make some inaccuracies here and there(blunders are rare, but they still happen).
In addition, Stockfish has the ability to calculate variations that most humans would never see or even consider, and its calculation are so extreme that it rarely translate well to humans.
Stockfish could suggest moving a pawn one square forward because it calculated that you'll be in a slightly better position after 24 moves(with best play at both sides) which isn't realistic at the human level.
Right. I’m 1200, I make moves sometimes trying an idea that I know is not the “best” move bc if the opponent doesn’t see the tactic it will be game changing

Right but Nelson knew he was going to lose his Bishop no mattter what he did and actually there was something he could’ve done had he seen it as he explained a counter attack on his opps Rook but he missed that so instead he went for setting up positional play that he would benefit from in the ensuing moves
I tell people all the time, "it's about the board, not the pieces." You don't need every piece to play checkmate...
Nice examples of successful sacrifice of pieces. But when calculating unfamiliar and unusual positions, I soon run out of time and often tend to take safer paths. But sometimes it's more fun to take this risk, even if you lose in the end because you don't have enough time.
That's why I like classical chess! 😄 It gives me lots of time to think and then I play better and have more fun! 🥲 But then I play blitz and speed and get flustered too easily...
@@BusyWithBizzyyes, I agree. But even half an hour is short when you're dealing with unfamiliar positions and calculating the probable outcome. But for us as amateurs, it's all about nothing and having fun should be the priority.
To add to the beauty of the checkmate in the end is that the bishop actually played an important double role on f2. It also prevented white from protecting the pawn on f4 with a rook. It was a pinning piece and a blocking piece.
So I should just play without pieces?

I did think of Qf5, but I thought white could reply with Qd1 which would protect the g4 square and prevent the checkmate as you described. Upon further analysis though, it is still chekmate in 2, because after Qxf4 and Qg4 black just takes the knight with the Queen on g3 and it's checkmate because white's Queen is pinned by the Rook.

When I get matched up against weaker players in my chess club I always go out of my way to practice this very principle. It's even more instructive to the opponent- Losing to someone who captured minimal material, or in some cases, captured zero material, is one helluva wakeup-call for the importance of king safety.

Nice. Can you please make a video about how to find the correct order of moves in chess.alot of time while solving chess puzzels and even in my games,i got the right idea,but i do not get the right order of moves.
I found Qf5 but couldn't understand why I wouldn't play Qd6. My intuition just tells me that I should play Qf5.
This happens so often in my real chess games. I have an intuitive move, take a full minute convincing myself that another move is just as good, just to blunder somethjng that wouldn't have been blundered if I followed my gut.

12:16 in this position you could also play bishop to e3, then after the queen moves to a safe field, rock f4 it is mate.

There is another related topic, namely when you are up tons of material. If you are up say two pieces and two pawns, of course, anything wins and you can do it the easy way and just trade everything off and take free material. However, I think it is better to use the situation as a learning opportunity and still try to play accurate moves. Should you take that free rook in the corner? there is nothing wrong with that, but you don't necessary have to, is my point. The relative value of winning more material goes down when you are ahead that much so it might be wiser to give one of your pieces away for a centrakl pawn just to get to that wonderful sqaure with your knight and make all of your opponent's pieces immobile. You should of course not go to the oppose extreme and give away everything you hae for a mate attack when you are up a lot of material because then you are taking unessasry risks, but my point is that you don't always need to take anoter bishop when you are already ahead a rook and bishop; it might be ever bettter to just bring the rest of your pieces into the attack, for instance.

Knights are really valuable cus of forks it can make and it unpredictable too but i always sac the bishops after the king castle just to open it up then i deliver checks comfortably
this video perfectly explains how i beat all of my friends in chess they always think there doing better because they have slightly more points or pieces but position and valuable trades are so much more important

I don’t know the number of the nove but at Minute 5:47 in your Video in that line you could also just Play rook to e1 and the Queen has to take and then bishop takes the knight and white has to move the bishop in then you take the bishop and after that the white queen has to move in and bishops takes queen too.

After realizing the pieces dont matter, I've been having really good games on completely empty chess boards, maybe the best games of my life. I realized, only the board and your mindset matters.
I have no idea of the answer, According to the evaluation, should you have won? or did the opponent miss winning moves?

If you play at your max strength at all times and don't make rookie mistakes then pieces don't needs to be saved as often. In an end game an extra piece would make a world of difference if you blundered one time during the mid game.

@@michaelcarroll5801 That at least makes sense because it does resemble a mirror of the Sicilian Defence. The Sicilian Defence is {e4, c5}, so if you play {c4, e5}, that's a mirrored Sicilian.

I always play like pieces don't matter. It's not how you win that's important.. It's how you lose but still get IMs to cover your game on Guess the ELO.
That was a nice win. I'm too cowardly to attempt such aggressive attacks. If there's the slightest miscalculation, the queen/bishop, and probably even the rook would be toast, and black would have an overwhelming counterattack.
Isn't the knight still lost after Be4, Bf3? If Bxf3, Qxf3 and the knight is still trapped. White has to either take or defend the light squared bishop, the best defense of which I think is exd5. Black follows with a3 to force Bxc3+ as allowing the pin to be broken would free the knight to take on e4. Meanwhile, taking on c3 allows bxc3 which helps reinforce d4. Ideally, black is ultimately forced to play Be7 which blocks themselves off on the rather vulnerable e file. Meanwhile, the knight is still going to be lost as either white will take on f3 or black will take on e4 then ultimately pick up the knight on h5. This whole line doesn't have to worry about the black bishop needing to be defended by the white queen and there's no real threat to the white rook. Black can still get some initiative in compensation but I think they're lacking a lot of the key traits to the position in the game while still losing a piece.

All it means is that you move two pieces in the same turn to specific squares; the king and the rook. Some rules apply, but that’s basically it!
