As a TLM103 owner I can hear why it's good for voice over - great clarity, very noticeable at lower volumes. The TLM 49 would be my pick for a singing microphone - it has absolutely no harshness at all when belting out those wonderful vocals. Both are good.
There is a reason why the TLM103 is so popular! But… I love the TLM49. The NT1A sounds very tiring and annoying in my ears. The MKH416 is a great mic as well. BTW: I own all 4 of them but hardly ever use the NT1A.
Ok to be upfront, I'm listening to this through the following: Alesis RA 500 Amp, NS-10M Studio speakers, (in pristine condition with approx 1000 hrs burn in) and a Bose companion 3, Series 2 Multimedia Speaker system, (Cubes and Sub, again with approx 1000hrs burn in). There were noticeable sound differences with most mics but what surprised me was that the TLM 49 and TLM 103 sounded pretty much exactly the same. I'm sure there may be a difference but I didn't hear it though my system. I'm sure you're aware that many factors affect what you hear, not only the mic but the speakers and amps at the end stage that you listen to so don't beat me for what I heard, just an honest opinion.
49, 416, 103, Nt1 just my opinions - of course you can manipulate all of them post but the 103 does sound processed a bit but would be easy to work with - thanks for the video :)
Marc Trainor yeah the 416 is used for those applications but thought it would be fun to add it to the mix as well just to see how it faired. Some test is better then no test, that’s what I always say
What is a good audio interface for that microphone 107 or 103 on Windows? Is there any advantage over the audio interface(s)? Have you owned the MOTO MK5?
The 49 is a great microphone that accentuates consonants more than the others. On the downside it seems lack some depth of tone- 103 was smoother but bore less of a forward character to it. The most opulent one was the 416. It had most of the detail and sounded smoky in the lower mids. Selection will need to depend on the singer and mix.
This really helps! I have a new mic invention and need to see the differences between expensive and more affordable mics. Seems that with my invention, I can transform a "less expensive mic" into something even better sounding than the most expensive mic here. I can change the freq response naturally, even with no preamp. Thanks for these comparisons, appreciate it!
great video, I liked the 49 best, but I'm confused with your comment... you said you liked the tlm49 better, but sided the 103 was your choice of mics. why?
gunluv96 I know there was a part I miss spoke. I did prefer how the TLM 49 sounded in this situation, but I am a fan of the full warm utility use of the TLM103. The TLM 49 is very specific and I feel it's great on "certain" things. The 103 I feel is a very safe mic and sounds good over a variety of things because of its predesigned nature to sound "broadcasty" IMO. I would really like to do more comparisons. Thanks for the response.
'misspoke' ...but I'll give you that one. Grammatically it's a strange one. Thanks for the video, I'm shooting for the TLM 49...seems like it likes me. : )
Lo Knows, Sort Of I'd like to see you with one ATR2100 every review and comparison I've ever seen gives it good marks and says it's sounds just like the much more expensive Hail PR 40. That why I now own 2 😀
Lo Knows, Sort Of oh man! I guess I did not explain well eheh.. I was talking abour a new openning music for you current channel.. with your friend song ;) ahah
Can you compare the Aphex 230 with the Avalon 737 and can you do a review on the Sennheiser mk4 with both Aphex and Avalon Also what do you think of the RE27 for voiceover?

6:49 TLM 103
8:08 TLM 49
9:51 NT1-A
God Bless YOU
You're a god
Forgot the 416 at 11:32
God is here
No question, 103 was warmer with better top end.. and solid bottoms! I just got one, so I'm very happy to hear this comparison! Great job!
Hey glad you found it helpful

MHK 416 surprisingly sounded really good for singing... i was shocked by that
High frequencies arent clear
If you can't afford the 49, go with the 103 or AKG 414 - they are both a little thin - but EQ is a wonderful thing!
The nt1a is one of the quietest mics out there, that's why it picked up room noise more than the other two.
Hahahahahahahaha Brooo hahahahaahahahaha
BRO I HAD A NT1A AND THE ROOM NOISE IS TERRIBLE NO MATTER WHAT I WOULD DO ON THE INTERFACE
TLM49 all the way!

TLM 49 much wider sound spectrum, precise and clarity. 103 sounded a bit too thin.
You should probably watch This is Spinal Tap. Immediately.
If you are about hip hop at all you will appreciate “The Only Way” album
I agree with all your assumptions, but... I thought the MKH416 was amazing for basically a mike for recording voice overs and live talking. Marc.

Thanks! Keep up the great work!
I have a raw channel nothing fancy... just for self aid... Elementus Technology
tlm 103: 6:51
tlm 49: 8:10
I liked the TLM 103 was warmer
Its a good mic, time to start saving up🙄
If i get my hands on one, i would definetly like to see the difference, but i will keep it in mind. Thanks!
Luis
i agree the sennheiser was nice. but you gotta get betta with the adjustments and setups.....RaJuR real deep kool
103 !
Rod Jeremy sings now??
For me tlm 103! warmer and clarity

@@LoKnows For what purposes tlm 49 is preferred?
lol I just came here for MKH416! clearly misleading title
Great video...interesting to see how the cheaper mics pair up...I thought you had "the Shan Man" in studio "Shannon Hernandez"
I still want to get the mic you have, im fascinated with the mic every time i here you use it

Rode nt1a did pretty well

El mkh416 woooooooooowwwww🥰
Mkh416 tlm103 nt1a tlm49 en ese orden para mi 🤷🏻♂️
Would you be able to make broadcast ready music with the rode? like can you pitch your music to record labels with the rode mic?
Lmao if you're asking that just don't even try
woooow!!! LIKE for the new Channel openning maybe ? :D nice Video!!
LOL, thanks man. No new channel plans yet.
Lo Knows, Sort Of oh man! I guess I did not explain well eheh.. I was talking abour a new openning music for you current channel.. with your friend song ;) ahah
Cool vid
Thanks!!!
I bought the tlm49 & returned it to buy another tlm 103. I was disappointed to find out the cheaper one sounds better.
The presence of the tlm 103 has no equivalent that im aware of. Price range wise nothing gets better by paying more even from the own company.
is that ron jeremy?
Love studio pro
Thanks for the great reviews
Can you compare the Aphex 230 with the Avalon 737 and can you do a review on the Sennheiser mk4 with both Aphex and Avalon Also what do you think of the RE27 for voiceover?
Yes absolutely. Ive been getting alot of request for the apex and am currently working on something. I would love to get my hands on the RE27
Thanks for the vid. However your comments are confusing. You say 'TLM' and your opinions are easily misconstrued.
Yeah, that was frustrating, after the TLM-49 bit you just said "TLM", while comparing two different TLM mic's, very confusing.
wtf y'all blurring out in the intro... LOL.
10:03 why is Lo laughing all the time? xD
The gefell m930 is the better tlm103
do one on the tlm 67
talk talk talk. so dull
U should try the Sony c-800G and the Avalaon 737 to get the best sound possible...
almir saiti yeah I should spend 9000 on ONE mic and another 4k on an Avalon channel strip.
for fucks sake..
For a rewiev reason...then use the return policy.
More like 8k then another 1.5k still 10k though.
all this for 36k views
To much talking man!
Too
First
thank you for wasting so much time for useless talk
The TLM 103 and the NT1A is not much of a difference O.o .....
KeithRobTV I heard a clear difference
You would if you spent some time with it and were trynna mix those vocals
Big difference man. Especially if you hear it on studio monitors.
