In regards to the Venturi injector you are correct. It will choke the pump but only if it is running at a fast rpm. If you want to make this in-line you can do it. You will need a variable speed pump, make sure it’s on a low speed to avoid choking it. Run it for about double to triple the time since it needs to sanitize all the water a couple times. Which in turn will waste more energy and be more expensive to run each month. Or do it his way which is unconventional but economically and practically smarter. As someone who worked in pumps and filtration for pools it makes complete sense.
I’ve had my tank for about a week but I finally pulled the trigger on the build. I’m tight on funds so couldn’t buy your plans off the website but bc of these videos and tons and stopping and writing down the measurements I’m almost done with the frame. I just need to secure the top to the supports. I just wanna say thank you so much. And I don’t think I could have gotten this far with out your video’s. And your a genius bro. Idk how you came up with all the plumbing and just the architect skills are amazing. Thanks again ❤😂

the size of the bulkhead refers to the female threads, not the outer diameter. I've had 1" bulkheads that fit and 1" bulkheads that dont, just depends on where you get it and how it was manufactured.
Hey which chiller do you recommend? I am in the process of using your DIY page, but I too live in a place with artic temps and am worried about damaging the chiller in sub zero temps. Any issues with the temps being too cold outside for the chiller.?
I pull my chiller in the winter. I've found that the Active Aqua 1/4HP is the best bang for your buck (and my personal fave). ruclips.net/video/vdzyb9hoeZk/видео.html
I've seen people do this! But... you would likely need to modify the framing to support the weight of everything. The limiting factor isn't the casters at that point, I think it would be the frame
You ever tried using a motorized fan vent system? I am installing a 12" exhaust fan right above my Penguin 1/2 HP Chiller and it will pull 600+ cubic feet of air our per hour - so I am going to set that to run along with the chiller. Just in case - I have a digital thermostat to check how hot the compartment gets, but it was way cheaper than 2 20" vents.
I was wondering about an exhaust fan as well... I deal with 100% humidity and temps in the upper 90s in NC during the June-Aug months. I'm about to start my first cold plunge build out
@@brettbarley I built mine in PHX. It's in my garage which is insulated and has AC if I want but I found i don't need it. I just positioned my cooler with the vent blowing right out and trimmed around it. But ... The vent fan would absolutely work
Hey Joe, I know you used PVC sheets for the top, did you also use them for the sides? I was thinking about using some Duratemp from Home Depot. I bought all your plans and made all my orders online today. I just need some 20 inch grates and siding for the frame. I insulated and wrapped it today. Super pumped about this project.
Hey! I used LP siding for the side panels - basically the same thing you are describing. It has worked perfectly for an outside plunge. I appreciate the support! Best of luck the rest of the way 👍
Hi, I have my rubbermaid bulk head leaking.. I DONT have any Menard store close by. Can you share which part I need in Amazon. Your link goes to bunch of bulk head.. I am looking to replace original stock tank bulk head.. thank you
I have the 100 gallon Rubbermaid tank. I just fill my tank and put ice in it, I don’t have the chiller or anything. My drain plug broke, how would you replace the plug? With another standard Rubbermaid plug or the bulkhead?
I use 1" - but that is the inner thread size. Different 1" bulkheads have outer sizes they vary. It's best to get your bulkhead and take measurements yourself
Hey Joe - I live in MN as well, awesome to see a fellow Minnesotan. Great setup, you explain things very well. I do have one question: how do you eliminate the chiller in the MN winters and just rely on the outside temps to cool your water? Do you have a way to route the pumped water through the filtration system without the chiller system when winter hits? Thanks
Hey Chris! Hope you are enjoying the recent heatwave 🤣 I have everything set up to be modular (using PVC Unions) so int he winter I take the chiller out and let nature keep it cold for me.
@@DIYColdPlunge you take the chiller out, but do you keep the rest of the plumbing hooked up and water flowing? If so does that keep the water in the pipes from freezing?
@@daviddustin1139 Yep, pump & filtration system stay in and keep the water from freezing. Depending on outside temps, the water could rise into the high 40's for temp.
Don’t listen to this guy about it makes your pump work harder. Restrict the flow makes the pump work less. You can check the amperage, if you don’t believe me.
really grateful for all your insights here and in the private facebook group! its been SO helpful

@@tjmarsh9327 ingenuity, my friend you got this
@gerard lyons i didn’t get one where I live it gets cold enough at night to keep my tank at a solid 50ish degrees F
Does the ozone generator work to replace chlorine for hot tub usage as well? Or just chlorine at lower temps?
It depends on a number of factors. Some will still need to supplement chlorine, but ozone works really well with it.
I’ll be filling mine up tomorrow night after the ozone generator arrives! Thanks for all the tips!
Awesome! Happy to help & appreciate the support
What size bulkhead would fit the drain in a 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank? Or would i have to resize the hole?
the size of the bulkhead refers to the female threads, not the outer diameter. I've had 1" bulkheads that fit and 1" bulkheads that dont, just depends on where you get it and how it was manufactured.
@DIYColdPlunge thanks Joe!
So should I buy the 1 inch bulk head from Menards? Asking because, The opening is for 1 1/2 inch on the 100 gallon tank..? Thanks
You may need to shop around. Bulkheads have varying sizes in different stores - the 1" refers to the thread size not the diameter
Do you use an inline pump or a submersible pump?
I use Danner - they can be both in line and submersed 👍 diycoldplunge.com/products/danner-950-1200-pumps
can you share the direct link to the plug in Amazon, the one in your prescription is not working, thks
just saw this, link is now fixed 👍

Caster wheels on the bottom of the frame? Maybe 8 or so of them? That way we can roll it around? Thoughts?

There have been some folks in extreme climates that have done this 👍 I personally have never needed to but the more airflow the better

It does not, these are for chiller setups 👍

I'd probably go bulkhead, just to have the adaptablity later on if you want to set it up with plumbing.
What size bulkhead union did you use on the 150 gallon
1"
