  • This was the ONE animal we just HAD to see on our visit to Costa Rica!! We were thrilled to see sloths at the Bogarin Trail in La Fortuna. This natural wildlife preserve is full of native plants that attract some of Costa Rica's most famous jungle creatures. Today, we focus on the sloth. The animals we find are wild. They are free to come and go as they choose, and they are not fed here. Costa Rica in Central America is home to both two toed and three toed sloths. We learn about the differences between the two, some fun facts about sloths, and watch them moving and eating during our guided tour. Be sure not to miss this if you like sloths!

Hi, we are the Stranathan Family! In 2018 we hit the road full-time to travel in our RV across the US. Our mission was to visit all 50 states and as many National Parks as possible! Along the way we’ve homeschooled our two kids. Traveling the country has been such a gift to us and we want to share the journey with you! Follow along for family friendly adventures, with a little learning and some laughs mixed in.

The closest living relatives of the Darwin's Ground Sloth (Mylodon darwini) are the Two-Toed Sloths (genus Choloepus) while the closest living relatives of both the Jefferson's Ground Sloth (Megalonyx jeffersonii) and Common Colossal Ground Sloth (Megatherium americanum) are the Three-Toed Sloths (genus Bradypus).
