Simple answer regarding ski/snowboard gear: Yes, buying everything from scratch is expensive IF you buy good equipment, which you ABSOLUTELY have to (because the cheap stuff falls apart after 1 season and also doesn’t work well, ruining the experience/hobby). Renting everything in a good location is also expensive, and you might not get what you want. I personally recommend buying. Just make sure you understand, that higher quality gear requires a certain skill level (to handle) and needs to be “a package”…meaning you can’t use cheap ski boots with hot skis etc…similar to a sportscar and tires. You should at least have all the clothes including the boots, as those have to fit perfectly, so not to be painful AND give you a perfect connection to your skis/board, so you can effectively steer. That’s the reason good ski boots are individually thermo-formed to your feet and only fit you. Best wishes
