Booktok recommendations suck. Also I agree with what you said about Den of Vipers and A Discovery of Witches. I read until 20% mark and then DNF'd.
i could write a ten page essay on my disappointment on this book but mistakes were made was NOT it for me. i found it on tiktok and it sounded like a great romance but i was uncomfortable and annoyed the whole time reading it. the age gap was just too much for me, especially because the love interest was her best friend’s mom
I agree with what you have said about Home Before Dark was not spooky at all. But I still believe it was a really good story just not scare your socks off as I had hoped

I tried A Discovery of Witches too, and I dnfed it. I remember not liking anything, and feeling like I got less of what I was promised and more of things that aren't for the type of reader I am. I also remember having a massive issue with the characters
I read halseys poetry collection and…. It wasn’t well written per say but it hurt and I was a good four star book but I gave it a one because I caused me to spiral.. 😅 soooooooooo let’s just say I hate to love it.

The Discovery of Witches TV show was surprisingly good! So I ended up reading the books... which were just like really bad, poorly edited fan fiction. (Girl, the sequels only getting increasingly worse and insane and even more Chosen One self insert. You should seriously read spoilers because omg. Just a fantastic trainwreck.)
Home Before Dark was good... but only the parts that pretty directly ripped from the show because the show was AMAZING. Everything else about the book was just mediocre and blah. (Same with The Family Game ripping off Ready or Not. Just leave those media alone if you can't improve on it. Feels very hackish to just steal _badly, too_ from something successful)
Yeah I'm considering just checking out the Discovery of Witches TV show. The book really did drag.
when you read the chapter of the ritual I actually laughed out loud!! you read it in a funny voice and the words were so bad!!
Daisy Jones and the Six was a most disappointing read for me but I think its my fault bc I apparently don't like to read about the 1970s rock scene and now I know. And Gallant I was really disappointed bc I love V.E. Schwab but not this
I didn't get very far in "A Discovery of Witches," which I tried to read years ago and put aside almost immediately. I keep wondering if I should try it again, but it sounds prosy.
I loved the discovery of witches series, I actually wish there were more in the series
I was also soooo let down by the Bromance book club series (I gave 3 of them a try and they all suffer from guys who need to be told the most basic human decency things), so it's so validating that you felt the same way!
I couldn't even finish a discovery of witches! There was to many stories going on at once and it drove me insane
My worst book of the year (the only book I read that was actually published in 2022, lol) was The Turnout by Megan Abbott. Yikes!!
There is a tv adaptation for A Discovery of Witches that its really good, maybe try that it you like.
i decide not folllow with FBAA series, i read the first three and only the 1 worth it for me. My worst reading of 22 was The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell, is not for me, very confusing and i didnt understand the end!! kisses from Argentina!!
Honestly seeing book’s being advertised by quotes really throws me off. I don’t find quotes believable enough to get me interested in the book.
It took a while, but I’m definitely in that boat now too. I’ve just been let down by one too many good quotes for bad books
I have been reading War of Two Queens since September, that's how underwhelmed I am by this fourth book. I sped through the first two so quickly, but I really started to lose it in the third book. I really liked Cas as the darker type of character and he's gotten really soft now that I've lost interest 😅

I actually love the Bromance Book Club series. I can see your points, but I still love the books. Not all the romances within the books are regency, she does different genres per book as the relationship dynamic calls upon. If it's not your thing, fair enough, but not all of them use regency romance and I know that was one of the things you didn't like, so thought I'd let you know. The other books are different dynamics too, not just husbands who don't act like it, like you said 🤣
not huge on modern poets but if you're looking for some you might like (because I recall you saying you liked Atticus), maybe check out Elvira Sastre. she's a spanish poet who has one poetry collection out in english right now.
i'm SUCH a hater so i immediately dnf a book if i am not feeling it. but the book that really, really pissed me off was Bewilderment by Richard Powers. I loved The Overstory SO gd much when I read it and I had high hopes for this book, but it was so gd anti-diagnosis, anti-treatment, (and even anti-medicine) take on neurodivergence. assumes that nd people are just special little snowflakes who are misunderstood by the world instead of idk people with differing needs that need systems of support, which may include medication and therapy. it made me never want to read his books again.
i also have not read any of the books on your hate list lmao. i only know about JLA on there tbh, and i already vowed never to read her after one terrible cringe-worthy dnf. so im assuming i'll feel the same about her adult ro-fan books.
Den of vipers was great for the first part. Then it went boring because of the *non-existing* plot.

My worst book BY A MILE was Velvet was The Night by SMG. I have never been so bored. The characters were annoying and her writing was very poor. I really think she is a bad writer, sorry not sorry.
