- This episode, we delve into urban legends. Was Mr. Rogers really a Navy Seal? Did Paul McCartney really die and get replaced by a look-a-like? Was the movie "The Exorcist" really based on a true story? These are just some of the many urban legends Nate, Brian, Aaron, and Nic discuss.

OPEN DISCUSSION: Are we fans of the podcast officially called Folks? Or Natelanders? Please share ideas so Biscotti can get a list going! LOL Thanks! 😁
I am a subject in the kingdom of Nateland. Nate is the king, Aaron is the [doughnut] champion knight, and biblioteca is the royal administrator who makes everything run smoothly, but gets no credit.
How about “The Worriers?”
@@bigal5559 🤣
@@paulm.e.mueller2903 🤣👑🍩📜
for sure “folks”! 😂
Aaron's hat screams "I'm not here to replace your dad, I just hope I can be your friend. Call me Rick."
🤣🎯
Amongst one of the most well preserved Urban Legend is that Nate and Aaron sleep with their hats on.
😂😂
Aaron was asleep during this one a few times
Nate asking Aaron if his family had “help” was as hilarious as it was awkward
Out of all of you guys Beetleboy’s voice is the most perfect for podcasting. Very clear and pleasant
Pulling an all nighter and a 5am Nateland is exactly what I need
the butter conversation is a perfect example of aaron saying something that makes total sense and then the rest of the guys talk him out of it with nonsense until he finally gives up and just agrees haha. there is definitely butter on that popcorn!!
The popcorn is cooked in butter flavored oil.
@@davidshores4992 Exactly. In concession stands they use oil that is butter flavored and turns the kernels yellow. Also there is white and yellow corn. Concessions stands use yellow corn. Even the extra butter added isn't real butter.
I love how concerned Bathtub was about the cardio conditioning of the Jason's at the end of the haunted tours and making sure they got enough time to rest up in between scaring small children out of their tiny little baby minds. Truly a kind soul this world doesn't deserve. Love the podcast guys.
Watching Nick still not get the Bates name joke after several weeks is my new favorite thing.
Nate in Alaska here... Most of my friends listen to business and investment podcasts, so I can't tell you enough how refreshing it is to listen to four dudes talk for a minute and a half straight about why popcorn is yellow. Love the show guys, keep it up.
I love that Bran is using "Hello Folks" as his signature. He needs to trademark it ASAP. I'd buy a Nateland shirt if it says "Hello Folks" on it
LOVE this podcast. I watch every week and usually find that I learn something new every time. Now, I’d like to return the favor - there ARE different types of popcorn. I know for certain that there’s at least a yellow kernel and a white kernel. Just like there’s yellow corn and white corn. Yellow kernels pop with a hint of yellow and white kernels pop... well white. White kernels are softer and not as chewy. Yellow kernels are usually used in movie theaters and concession stands.
There’s your fun fact for the day! 🙂
When Aaron throws out a joke that doesn't stick and then says "ugh, alright lets move on..." always rights the ship with the recovery!
I love listening to this podcast while doing my boring desk job!
I love everything yall are doing for us folks at home! FOLKS PRO TIP: caution drinking while watching this podcast Nate's pronunciation mistakes are expected yet surprising. I am now cleaning off my computer because he said NeanderTHRALS.
for microwaved popcorn there is butter already in the bag with the kernels so it soaks the popcorn once it pops, I thought Baggage would’ve known that
Mick's got to goooo!
I am not trying to be mean. I love the short guy, but he dilutes the comedic energy between the other three idiots. I wish him the best. Brisket Barbell 🥩💪 - I need you to be vicious. ASAP. You should do a wrestling show. So much gold waiting to be mined. Val Venis.
I can’t wait for Nate to move back to California so that we can get back to the original podcast as it was intended to be, “Nickland”
In all seriousness; I have a stressful job working in the ER, and listening to y’all every day on my way home from work essentially does absolutely nothing for me. Except for you Bahrain, you’re awesome.
as soon as my daughter was born I took out a sharpie and drew an R on the bottom of her foot so nobody could pull a switcheroo on us
I love the dynamic of this podcast. Nate having a laugh at the expense of Blanket. Aaron always 3 steps ahead of the room while Mic is blissfully unaware of where he's at. Keep up the good work folks
I used to work at a movie theater and popped plenty of popcorn. I'm pretty sure the yellow color before putting butter on is from the oil used to cook the popcorn. Love the podcast keep the good work Nate, Aaron and Brakepad.
Am I listening to 4 adults discuss whether corn seeds are soaked in butter????
3 adults and a midget
Some concession stands and restaurants use the same popcorn salt for their fries as well. I'm surprised Aaron or Brisco County Jr didn't think of it first. You guys make my week, please keep it up.
I often have to pause the show when Nick says something outlandish, much to wrap my head around what exactly he’s talking about and it’s relevance to the topic at hand. *Insert red head guy blinking meme*
The least shocking thing I've heard on these podcasts has been Nate saying "I love concession stand food"
My favorite restaurant!
Full disclosure: I haven't finished this episode yet, but Nate trying to explain to Nic the difference between adopting a puppy and giving birth is my favorite podcast moment thus far.
It was great!
Dr. Octopus is killing it.
I just watched the episode about animals this week. Today as I was disc golfing, a Black Squirrel fell probably 40 feet out of tree right next to me and then scurried away. I never thought a squirrel thump would make me think of Nate, Bacon Bates, Mick, and Aaron! Love the show, guys!
Did anyone else find it suspicious that when Whitebread called out Webber he said “we’re not mathematicians, we’re not building bombs!”
Great show guys I love how Broccoli is like the "gotchya" journalist when it comes to the guys saying something wrong or pronouncing something wrong
Mother’s click with babies they adopted and feel like they had them. ❤🥰🤗
Nic: 800 people die every day
Brain: well lets stick to per minute
Nic: *doing some quick math that comes out to* 80 a minute
This podcast in my favorite thing ever. I thoroughly enjoy listening to our pronunciation impaired Leader and his folks: Bing, the internet searcher, comment reader and fact checker; Alexa, who thinks he has the answers to it all; and newcomer Slick Mick, who attempts to convince us all that he knows about every story, topic or person mentioned in the episodes (even tho he’s never heard of most of it). This makes up for the fact that the OKC show was postponed. Hoping you reschedule soon...cause you know, who doesn’t want to come see Oklahoma City! Keep us laughing guys, podcast is great!
Amazing show guys, I love the laid back energy and busting each others chops. It reminds me of a couple of buddy’s just hanging out!
Omg This reminds me of when I went to go see A Few Good Men at the movie theatre. Right after Nicholson said “You can’t handle the truth” the lights came on and we were told we needed to leave because there was a bomb threat. No one wanted to leave but the staff promised free tickets to come back and see it so we all went to the box office and waited in line for our free tickets. This was years ago but it’s crazy to think about now. No one was concerned. We all just wanted to find out what happened to Colonel Jessup! 😂
Hello Folks! Last weeks episode was hilarious, love how gullible Mick was... love Wednesdays because of you all. Let’s see what Bodega comes up with this week!
On the Mr. Rogers thing, Bob Ross was actually in the military and was a drill sergeant, even.
I love how they question whether Aaron is a genius but anytime they need a true educated answer they immediately look to him to confirm if they are using the correct pronunciation or if they are correct.
Love the show fellas, was a little disappointed in Aaron as a comedian for not making a joke about his brother who went to Purdue University, when he said everyone but his youngest brother went to Notre Dame and instead went to Purdue I thought he was making a joke saying he went to work for the Perdue Farms chicken place but nope, he dropped the ball and went with the serious answer, I'm so ashamed to be a notre dame fan now, I gotta rethink my life now. Just kidding of course, Irish for life!!!! Still a great show, keep up the great work guys and even though I want to call Brian by a funny name i just cant bring myself to do that since everyone else does it, GOODNIGHT AMERICA!!!
Brian, I feel like you need to know that you're not the only one being called by the wrong name. For the life of me, I could not remember Nate's last name for the longest time. I walked around for months calling him "Nate Benghazi" before I locked down his actual name. I still call him Benghazi though. It just feels right.
Yeah well, my 90 yo grannie (also a proud Eastern Tennessean) referred to Ms Winfrey as Okra repeatedly.
Some folks are country and others are simply happily unclear.
Fellas, I spend all day, everyday in my pickup and for about 2 hours a week I feel like I’m hanging out with my best friends. Even though no one acknowledges when I speak or laughs at my jokes, 10 years of marriage has taught me that’s perfectly normal. Keep doing what you’re doing, you guys are awesome. Krispy Genius, Mik, Bagpipes, and Bar-Yahtzee (nicknames you guys are just loving in the truck, or at least I haven’t heard any complains) you are certainly 4 of the best. Stay safe, I’ll see y’all again next week in the pickup. Ps. Come do a show in Firth, Nebraska
Somehow the Urban Legends episode turned into the Ghost/Haunted house episode for the last 30 minutes😂
Don't know where else to put this but me and my GF are huge fans and just attended the Houston show. You and Weber in particular had us laughing so hard it hurt. It was so needed and big thanks to You,Weber,Brian, Nic. Come back anytime
One urban legend I always heard as a teen and still think about today, was people were putting the needles in the gas pumps where you pull the trigger to dispense the gas....I guess that's just a variation of the one that was talked about with the change dispenser
I would love to hear Nate try to talk to Alexa: "Alexa, what is the uh wh..., you know some days its cold and other days its hot, well, I like, uh, one time Buster and Aaron went outside in a sweater when it was 85 degrees ou..., soooo, yeah I like to know the temperature outside before I, I mean I think a lot of people do; Alexa, weather?"
😭😭
The concessions stand popcorn you’re talking about is cooked in oil. Popcorn kernels are put into a pot of hot oil and that’s where the yellow comes from
Would you guys consider having Dusty Slay on the podcast sometime? I think it'd be a lot of fun if you threw him in the mix. Plus, I know that Backstreet Boy was on Dusty's podcast one time.
I spent hours and hours planning a road trip with my two boys ages 5 and 9. I honestly have never spent so much time trying to make sure I knew everything I could about the places we were going in order to help calm my anxiety of taking two children by myself across the country. But I obviously did not research enough...We stayed in Tonopah, NV one night just to get us closer to our next day destination. We had driven most of the day and didn't arrive until 11pm. We walked into the lobby and I instantly felt the creepiest vibe I have ever felt. I tried to shake it off because it was late and there was no where else to go in this small, middle of no where town. We get up to the room an and I find a newspaper from the hotel proudly displaying they are the number one haunted hotel in America. I was terrified and had no idea what to do. We all laid down to try and sleep but I was awaken at least once an hour by the sound of water running in the bathroom at varying levels from a trickle to full blast. But there was no way I was going to go into the bathroom to find out what was going on, so I just laid there and cast the demons out like I was a priest. In the morning the water was off. Scariest night of my life. I will never return to the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, NV.
Also, if you havent seen the show Psych you all need to watch it. It is hilarious and even references Wade Boggs drinking when he guest stared on an episode.
So I used to work in a movie theater, and the popcorn will turn out yellow with or without butter because of the oil that most theaters use to cook it. However if there is butter on it, you’ll know because the popcorn will almost feel sticky. Odds are if they made a big trash bag full (which a lot of theaters do for catering events), then there probably wasn’t butter in it because 1) it’s annoying and 2) it could melt the bag. Love the show guys!
Nick is the 4th funniest guy on the podcast and talks the 1st amount of time. Just saying.
39 degrees? I worked outside in Montana in negative 30. Man up Nate. Sheesh
When you talked about the first person to do something, I feel like MLB has been doing this for years. A buddy and myself always joke when they make up stats. This is the first right handed batter to hit a homerun in a game, off a left handed pitcher with a guy on 3rd base and the moon and the sun can be seen in the sky at the same time with a 0 and 2 count while playing on a grass field in the 5th inning. They just keep adding to the scenario to make it a new thing.
Love the show , love having mick there as a gullible person, Nate tries with every thing that buddy reads to try and trick mick and to watch Arron look over at him and see if he is going to fall for it or not.
This is better than the Brain Trust from the Series Scrubs.
Nateland: the everyday think tank
One of my absolute favorite things is seeing Nate find new jokes and seriously write them down, awesome to see inside how someone creates jokes. You 4 are awesome Micky, A(lways right)aron, and Bon Bon.
Nate, I'm with you on the Haunted Houses. I don't like them and of course when I'm pressured by friends I use this little trick every time! Walk in and go all the way to the exit, once they pop out, move into the next room and move to the exit and continue. :) The actors will not do anything as you walk in as they want to scare the crowd. Works swimmingly. Birdie you did outstanding on this research and proving once and for all most of these just wild made up stories.
This is my new fav podcast . Always loved Nate and wished he had a podcast !! The dream has become a reality 👍 burnt through all episodes in 4 days .... need more 😬
I worked at a movie theater. The popcorn is popped with a small amount of dried butter combined with oil, which gives it the yellow color, and then the option to add liquid butter is asked of the customer. Same for microwave popcorn, that's why you see that butter residue on the inside of the bag. If you get unflavored, unseasoned popcorn then yeah it's white.
Guys, the main reason why popcorn turns that color of yellow is because of a salt-type of flavoring added called Flavacol. Most movie theaters and drive-ins use it!
This dudes knows his popcorn. Do NOT screw up and put too much of this on your popcorn.
If you love ghost stories, you should look into The Ghost of Eastern 401. This is a case where people actually saw people, not just a shadow or a light. It is a fascinating story and you can find tons of things on the internet about it, you could probably do a whole episode on it. Anyways, keep up the great work guys, it is always great. And Breakfast Burrito, don't let them get to you too much.
If the OJ man is carjacked by the ankle cutter, we're halfway to a continental breakfast.
I’m from Lawrenceburg the home of Nates in laws. It’s Crazy to know Nate may be in my hometown at anytime. I’m a huge fan of this show it definitely makes my days better listening to it. Thanks for the great content Nate, Aaron and Baitshop.
Brian from Lawrenceburg
Nick: everyone's looking at me
Britches: maybe because you spoke up immediately
Nick: I love Ted Danson
Britches: that has a lot to do with...
I think Britches has had enough!
Haven’t we all had enough
I have never laughed as hard than when I hear Nate say something and it goes over Nick's head (rim shot). Love you guys, keep up the great work Nate, Buttermilk, and Aaron because you have some pretty big shoes to fill with Nick leaving soon.
Aaron, why did you have to say “you’re never more than 6 feet away from a spider”?!!! I can literally feel them watching me now!
That currently shapes my life.
Manti Te'o is my cousin and I think I've heard his name said more times in the last two episodes than I have in my whole life.
Two of my biggest fears in life is my car being stolen and someone even thinking about touching my achilles heel. Thanks to you guys, I now will have to check under my car every time I get in it.
also, i leave maybe 3 youtube comments a week and they are all on nateland podcast episodes. just a complimentary FYI
I love how Aaron mentions, and believes, the myth about swallowing spiders each year, while discussing debunked myths.
Ok, ok, ok.... A rare find....season 5 episode 6, Better Call Saul, at minute mark 33:30, Saul (Jimmy ) walks into a meeting with Kim and a bunch of Lawyers and says “hello folks”! It wouldn’t be so weird except the inflections are as though he has been watching Nateland, or has seen Bjorn’s act! This is not an urban legend or a hoax, the real deal!! Keep up the good work. Nateland, best show on Wednesday nights.
Nick needs a on off button I feel. 😤
The popcorn conversation is one of the great debates of our time.
I live in the middle of the country and it was crazy how many people refused to wear masks in the thick of it. I would constantly hear people talking crap about people who did.
The headlights gang initiation is totally true! We once flashed our headlights not thinking and were chased down the road for miles going as fast as possible until the next available exit.. All the while the car in question kept with us at more than double the speed limit. The driver made me crouch on the floorboards the whole time I knew from his face he was not kidding around. Maybe the other car thought it was a joke but we took it very seriously and I feel lucky to be alive. All in all quite invigorating! 10/10 would recommend being chased without dying.
Mic, don't leave California! We're running out of good people. Although I think Nate should make you the 5th member & call the show"the live jive ivory five"!
My friends have a running joke that we could get people to believe anything if you preface your statement with “Most people don’t know this, but...”
Is anyone else watching this and looking around like, “Alright, guys. Could y’all say Bloody Mary any louder?” I’m alone so I guess it’s on me for listening to an Urban Legends episode as dusk falls. “I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.” No fear of urban legends could keep me away though! Love listening to y’all every week! See ya in Hockley tomorrow!
It’s the ESPYS award show for ESPN
Bags of Popcorn have butter on the inside of the bag. That’s why they’re yellow. But Aaron’s right it’s a distinct type of yellow when there’s butter other than that it might only have a slight yellow color to it. Don’t question my source.
Also. If Jamie lee Curtis can kill mike Myers than so can i
When your mom says you can’t hangout with yours friends unless you bring your younger bother with you and that is where Mick comes in 😂
You guys need to make a sticker with the nateland logo. If I don't have it for my laptop soon, I will be very upset.
This Briancast is great to listen to on my Brian to work everyday. Sometimes I Brian so hard on the Briway and have the Brian next to me look at me funny. Like, what are Brianing at? I’m listening to my favorite Briancast in my 93’ Chevrolet Brian.
Burtrud Breakfast Bates is the best! I’ve watched Bates’ s videos and I want more! Bur Break Bates, give us a special to watch. Don’t be worried!
I have a DryBar comedy special.
Barbecue is right about the ESPN awards show. It’s where they give out all the position specific awards, like the Bednarik award that Te’o won.
Hello folks! Just wanted to say I learn something new every time I Iisten to you guys. For instance, this episode (urban legends) I learned that I shouldn't have listened to this when I was grocery shopping alone at night. I was so paranoid while walking to my car and putting my groceries away. And yes, I checked my van for serial killers and had Journey ready to play for my drive home.
P.S. if Nate reads this he is bound to say my last name incorrectly, it's pronounced "doe-tay"
I just want to clear up the butter/popcorn controversy. In the kettle at the top of the maker you pour in kernels and liquid butter otherwise they will burn. Once they all pop you empty it into the vat THEN you can add salt or more butter but there is butter in the kettle. I love the show keep up the good work guys and take it easy on Burnbag, he holds your chaos together.
Mic Movicki is the Rhode Island of podcast guests. Nice job, Folks!
Love the show. By far my favorite podcast. Aaron Nate and Big guy all have such a great comedic chemistry... Micks cool to. Yall see the new Jerry Seinfeld book "is this anything"? Its cool to see the process comics go through. Great job guys
Let's go, Brontosaurus!
Let’s get a center piece for that table? Goldfish bowl? Pot pourri?
Goldfish bowl is an amazing idea!
I love the Goldfish Bowl idea! My ADHD thanks you! 🤣👍
Bricktone would name it, Nate would %100 fixate on it, Aaron would eat the poor little muuug
I think the butter is inside the bag with the kernels
I love mind hunter! Combining true crime with comedy 😅 love it
100,000 people in Japan disappear each year (there's a documentary about it)...they get in debt, or have too much pressure...they just walk away and are never seen again
I worked at a drive in during high school and let me tell you what you are tasting - teenage angst, coworker drama, and a distain for whatever dipwad they gave an extra title to who thinks they're in charge. Those places are literally functioning on two shots of warm liquor and a prayer.
Just love it how blueberry breakfast always says the county of where the town is in before he says the towns name! That’s’ how older people talk! You say you’re from this small town and older people just hit you with the county name like it’s a game show question!
Nics comment on not believing in gangs was surprising. I live in Louisville, Kentucky and the FBI has a gang task force that has identified 25 different gangs that currently exist in Louisville. Gangs exist in every reasonably sized city throughout the United States
Bradford was completely right about the award show. They give out the Davey O’Brian award to the best college QB and etc.. It is different than the Heisman.
I'm pretty sure the swallowing spiders/bugs in your sleep is an urban legend. I always believed it myself but google says its fake...
Is there a popcorn expert that can help these guys out?
Just waiting for the episode where Nick just sits in Aaron‘s lap the whole time😂😂😂
