- The BMW Isetta is an Italian-designed microcar built under license in Europe by BMW. Because of its egg shape and bubble-like windows, it became known as a bubble car. One of my dad's friends had an Isetta. In the UK, you could drive them on a motorbike licence, if reverse gear was blocked off. He went home on a Friday evening, drove into the garage FORWARDS and was stuck in the car because he couldn't open the door. Fortunately for him, his neighbour noticed the garage doors open on Saturday morning and rescued him as his wife was away visiting family. The next week he booked himself in to take his car driving test and bought a Vauxhall Viva, something his wife had been nagging him to do for a very long time. Naturally, at the next mess dinner, his wife took a HUGE amount of pleasure in telling all his friends about his mishap. That one stuck for a very long time and may well still be following him around today...

My daily driver now is a 1956 BMW Isetta 300, bubble window model! Fun car to drive, 45mph seems really fast when you are sat in a glass bubble! 0-60 time is...where’s the steepest downhill?
