Jon Cozart’s hosting of The Streamys was really good. He was the most honest host and didn’t hold back when he was talking about any of the creators at the time. This video finally showed me some Shane Dawson context I very much needed on the situation. I was a fan in the early days and then the later days with Jeffrey Starr. Some of these clips have reinforced what I have heard about him but also it’s reminded me how important context is. Many people are freaking out in chat during the part where Shane had the singer Sophia in his videos. Some comments questioning why here parents would let her do that or if she even has them. If you watch the video, her whole immediately family are there. Her dad is in the video more than once and the finale is her singing Shane’s mom’s favorite song. I’m not defending Shane but even in this video Stanz made talking about so many “truths”, it can still be biased and misleading.

I am not going to lie I sometimes like to watch stand while I eat, and that is usually not a problem. However, in this video some of the stuff Shane did and said was so disgusting, specifically the part with kids, that it made me so sick I couldn't finish my food and had to turn the video off to finish eating before coming back.
Shane's apology 1, where he talks about the "girl who has been giving him trouble" was a BLACK WOMAN calling him out for black face. And he knew his fans were going after her and being horribly racist to her, because she let it be known to him, and he didn't do anything to stop it. There were plenty of other black creators calling him out as well--it wasn't that no one was calling him out, it was just that he didn't care about black people's opinions and thoughts.
Firstly I would like to thank Caanths and team for DiveMas. There is seriously a lot of effort going into this and compiling all the info here. Secondly, I'm glad that I never watched SD or any major person back in the day. I'm actually sickened by all of the clips put together that someone like that was able to be such a big part of YT history. I think divemas is one of the best things to ever happen to this channel. Having a retrospective look into internet drama with someone as unknowledgeable as me has made divemas a blast to watch. Hats off to both Stanz and Caanths
This video finally showed me some Shane Dawson context I very much needed on the situation. I was a fan in the early days and then the later days with Jeffrey Starr. Some of these clips have reinforced what I have heard about him but also it’s reminded me how important context is. Many people are freaking out in chat during the part where Shane had the singer Sophia in his videos. Some comments questioning why here parents would let her do that or if she even has them. If you watch the video, her whole immediately family are there. Her dad is in the video more than once and the finale is her singing Shane’s mom’s favorite song. I’m not defending Shane but even in this video Stanz made talking about so many “truths”, it can still be biased and misleading.

I am not going to lie I sometimes like to watch stand while I eat, and that is usually not a problem. However, in this video some of the stuff Shane did and said was so disgusting, specifically the part with kids, that it made me so sick I couldn't finish my food and had to turn the video off to finish eating before coming back.

And he knew his fans were going after her and being horribly racist to her, because she let it be known to him, and he didn't do anything to stop it. There were plenty of other black creators calling him out as well--it wasn't that no one was calling him out, it was just that he didn't care about black people's opinions and thoughts.

I'm actually sickened by all of the clips put together that someone like that was able to be such a big part of YT history. Like we know with all of the deep dives we've seen, the people just have really shitty apologies.

Just an additional note: the "context" he provides from that podcast episode is the tail end of an almost 3 minute diatribe about how he interacted with a 5-6 year old cheerleader who had more Instagram followers than him, and she was a "sexy cheerleader" (lol, jk, teehee) and then he has a whole moment just before the clip he plays where he has a "justification" for pedophilia about how just googling "naked baby" isn't hurting anyone. Meanwhile his co-host is clearly disturbed, has said they've had this conversation before, and explains that pedophiles aren't just googling for "naked babies". He's picking the least bad clip out of a long series of disgusting thoughts he thought was appropriate to verbalize, and then is acting like it's a smoking gun that proves his innocence. If nothing was wrong, why not play the whole 3 minutes in full?

The thing that I DETEST about Shane is how hard he tries to be a "soft small bean :((( he's so saaaad :(" all the time, he's perpetually both the victim and the aggressor.
He perpetually apologizes and talks bad about himself, but never in ways that matters, only to seem more sad and innocent and in need of protection. It's in the inflection, the general acting, body language, everything. He tries to act pathetic, so he can't be actually hit with anything, and to keep people (especially young girls) coming to his aid or taking his word that he's misunderstood.
*There is no redeeming Shane. There never will be a redemption, and if popular opinion ever is that he is redeemed, it just means his manipulation worked.* He has "known" everything wrong with him for ages, but only claims to change (or makes small steps/showboating steps) when it directly threatens his reputation as a goofy little friendly unthreatening guy.
Not only was this very, very uncomfortable, but I also feel like the FBI could break down my door any moment for watching this.
