I put three of the best head to head in this group test; the brand new Mercedes GLA, based upon the previous A-Class, the luxurious and sport BMW X1 which sports a similar interior to the 2 Series Active Tourer, and finally, the Audi Q3 which received a facelift to keep up to date with SUV rivals. So, which compact SUV will win in this all German affair? Which is the best value for money, and which SUV offers the most amount of space? When you say the fuel consumption, you should show us how many litres this is. Especially for the european viewers.. 😁
There are many converters online that will tell you the litres/100km figures once you put in the British MPG figures, and after a few times of doing this, you will learn to just approximately convert the figures for yourself once you hear 'MPG' being said in these videos.

Jacob Verschaeve He is right. You don't need to say it, but in the editing of the video there should be for 2-3 seconds what that is for l/100km. That would really finish it off like the red cherry on top of the cake. 😃👍🏼

Nope. Front wheel drive based, less fun to drive, and it’s as boring as a dead ferret. Now they pipe fake sound through the speakers. Used to be 4 years of free maintenance, now 3 years. Have you tried both?
Kurt Muroki I’m very happy with my 2017 x1. It is a blast to drive. With a crossover, I was looking for extra storage space and having a fwd for more space is ok with me. It’s a sporty family car and I’m fine with that.
But the previous generation was a RWD!
Even though I don't particularly like its looks, I would choose the X1. Its the best car here for sure and I like how it looks like an SUV, unlike the other two which are just jacked up hatchbacks. Its also the most practical and spacious (two things that are important to me).
I love Mercedes but in this test BMW X1 is better than the Mercedes GLA

Gla looks posh no doubt so it's fine for those with small fam of 3 or 4, or just couples. If looks matter to you. But BMW X1 just has everything and practical and family allrounder! Space is needed than BMW X1!

@Niccolò Machiavelli I also had a 2015 GLA with 2.1 diesel and I was dissapointed by the noisy engine, I couldn't stand it, also the technology is kinda old, parking sensors, infotainment. I sold it after 1 month
@Ajes John I was dissapointed to be honest, I expected more from the GLA, but the engine was so noisy, the technology outdated, I mean for the parking sensors there were indicators like the aftermarket ones, stuck on the dashboard and you couldn't see it.due to the infotaiment screen.
Think the BMW X1 actually looks the best as well in my opinion.

On the outside? Yes. On the inside? No. If Audi even remotely knows what they're doing, which I assume they do, I would expect an update to the Q3 at the 2018 Detroit auto show at the very latest. Having a more expensive model that's not as nice as the cheaper one isn't a situation that can be allowed to go on for long, that's basically exactly how Ford killed Lincoln's prestige 30 years ago.
Q2 is too tight and even uglier.
GLA 100%. From the alloys to the body the car looks balanced and interior is beautiful. The BMW X1 looks like a body builder who doesn't train their legs and the Q3 reminds me of a beetle.

BMW X-1 indeed a worthy choice out of the three. The Audi Q3 interior looks so dated, and the exterior looks more bland than my nan’s knitting!

These three German cars a really nice. All of them, but I liked the BMW the most.
Audi is oldest and still doing well, specially with GLA which is younger. The X1 is winner there for sure, they done great job.
Mercedes has been incredibly bad at building small cars. Just look at the A-class and its terrible ride quality.

But the Q3 is a facelift model from 2015, so I guess they would have fixed some issues from the 2011 model. The GLA is from 2014 and get this year a facelift.

Vehicles World the problem with Audi they didn't realise market taste and doesn't take face lift to but benz is at its best looking interior and engine compromised .. for bmw it just one word amazing make a super car like R8 or sl65 amg solve ans ultimate winner
In this segment, where I personally think if you can't afford a proper SUV from these brands your better off buying a Nissan, the BMW is the winner. But there is no value for dollar what so ever, your just buying the fucking logo wit these ones. Just saying...

the gla is no real SUV its an a class with offroad package, the x1 is a brilliant car, but i would recommend xdrive, cause no one should drive a bmw with FWD.
Markus LC the Xdrive on the X1 is different - it's an intelligent 4wd system that only activates when the car senses it needs all 4 wheels to engage. 99% of the time it's still 2wd so you would feel be it hard to tell the difference other than the Xdrive version being heavier
Ben Pascall not entirely true, i drove both version and there is a difference you can feel very clearly! especially when you display the xdrive system on the boardcomputer you will see, that you are driving at least 80% not in fwd, in addition you have considerably less understeering while driving sporty.
In 2020 GLA will have the best interior than any other car

sander brust holidays? seriously? cars are assets and they're a need in many places, holidays is for dumb people when in need of money... Smartest decision would be investing, or if cars then buy a lexus/toyota, but cars overall are still way smarter than spending money for holidays

car is just a tool don't spend to much on a brand. The status money you can better spend on nice holidays in tropical lands than on a leather interior or big engine that you 95% don't use the full potential of it on highways. Cars one of the worst assets because of the amount it decreases only old and special cars will increase but not cars that are under the 100 grand that you can use everday
I’ve owned both. Mercedes wins easily, much more comfortable and enjoyable to drive. X1 had too much road noise, too hard seats and the back seat space is impractical.
The Audi Q3 is the best in my opinion

X1 was the best at everything, by far, I'm really impressed by BMW... If the X1 had a slightly more powerful engine it would easily go up against the GLC and Q5
ChelseaFC !!! There's 3 engines... the one here is the highest horsepower diesel with a 0-60 of 6.6 seconds which is faster than the majority of Q5 and GLC diesels. Check your facts
GLA Is really cramped from inside.. But i like driving it (220d), design is nice and tech is alright. You just dont expect the tiny space inside when you look at it from outside.

When you talked about the gla about the light you used for the interior you said "let's see that" and right after that an ad plays. I've never seen such a great placement for an ad 😂
Before watching this comparison, its so obvious that the bmw won.
If this review was last year i was amazed. So this was done 2 months ago where there is a new GLA and comes with off road suspension by default in UK (30 mm higher than normal). You used an AMG Line (the stiffer and 45 mm lower than off road GLA). What would you expect? Please review again with GLA 2017 and off road suspension.

I think the q3 still looks great.Just because a car is old when compared to the competition doesn't mean that it's boring.The all new 7 series looks no where as good as the 1990 7 series.Some cars look great even when they are old.

Of the three I would take the X1 at least till the Q3 gets a serious update. Been in a GLA as a passenger wasn't impressed. Though next segment up I enjoyed the GLC over the old X3 and Q5.

I drive a BMW X1 in real life (in my pfp) let me tell you what he said is all true. Mine is the sdrive18i petrol variant. It’s just as practical and powerful and I love the look. Very great car
Mercedes without thinking abouti it. Audi I guess would also be a good choice but boring, BMW is great until you own it. Looks to me like Matty is driving the sport engine but not sport suspension... i have the GLA250 with the sport suspension or AMG package (NOT AMG) and the ride is solid, planted, and comfortable at the same time. Yes, some tire noise, but I like to drive the speed limit and on cruise control so not a issue. Where Im from they are offering good money for it still, wouldn't sell ! Nothing beats it out there and im serious. (Based on my needs, I have no children, dont plan to, a dog, I move my dirt bike and bicycle with it) If I wanted to tow a Boat I guess I would need something bigger but not the case.
Such a shame the BMW doesn't have a digital speed readout in the centre of the dials. Seems so old fashioned and ugly to look at. Bit of a deal breaker considering how often you look at your speed, the steering wheel has a habit if breaking your line of sight to the 20-60 speeds

GLA looks posh with interior design, red stitches. Bought one last month AMG 250 executive premium plus.
This version of GLA looked outdated the day it came out. The current version looks 10 times better.
The Q3 looked modern and cool when it came out then started to look old and boring over time. The current model is meh.
The X1 was looking good on debut and 6 years later it still looks like it could be a new model that just came out. But BMW screwed up the actual current model like pretty much all the other recent models of theirs.
The X-1 is the Ugliest, iv'e never owned a German made car, would love to move up to the GLA 250, .. not sure i want a 500 to 650 per month payment..
I agree the X1 prob is the better car out of this lot. But check resale prices. With depreciation you're paying a lot more for that badge than any of the others...
