- In his keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr said the rivalry between China and the US is "constraining choices, exacerbating flashpoints and creating new security dilemmas" for Southeast Asian nations. He also stressed the role of ASEAN amid big power competition. Associate Professor Eduardo Araral from the NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy shared more about ASEAN centrality and China-Philippines maritime tensions.

The EDCA only contemplates the Philippines allowing US troops access to mutually agreed Philippine bases within the Philippines, not US bases like pre-1990s. Prof. Araral has some points to point-out: first on Article 4 of the US-Ph Mutual defense Treaty, he said, there must be a US govt. consultation first before this would be invoked and he said, there are not much claimants in SCS, while the truth, there're five claimants, which is half of ASEAN members. I think, the Professor should be clever enough, otherwise it would be biased...

1.Not every country that hosts American troops can become very rich like Germany/Japan/Britain. 95% of Allies' goverments give up sovereignty, putting their own people still poor. 🤫
2.There remain a ranking/priority of US Allies/client states; It mostly depends on what they can offer, Germany/Japan/Britain can provide them with industrial services, military encirclement of Europe and East Asia. Ask yourself what your country can offer and what the priority is. 🤔

Let us calm down. About south china see and claimants, the US had no issues with the the claim which includes a list of names Islands. There are international and official documents about that and mainly dealing with those stolen by the Japanese. The 9 dash lines which was initially published by the Republic of China and called 11 dash lines, before the Pillipene became independent. There were no other claimant before 70s. The so called international court ruling on SCS doesn't exist. It was supposed to be a arbitration ruling but simce China didn't participate and therefore no arbitration because an arbitration can only happen when two parties agree to abide by the result. It is a fact that Macus Jr has some assets frozen in Hawaii and wants that and it would not be a wild guess that he is blacked mailed by US. In handling the supply issue the Chinese has released an audio on the agreement and validated by a general.

TERRITORIAL WATER IS 20 nautical miles from baseline of a country and Exclusive Economic Zone is 200 nautical miles from the baseline. Why is everyone focusing on the president of the Philippines? It should be more on the side of China.
