It's 2020.....The 8-Bit Guy hasn't been seen in months, except for in the form of near daily half hour long unboxing videos. His house is now completely full of "Old Commodore Stuff", the walls no longer visible, the floor now a narrow path between towers of non functioning 80s computers and collumns of floppy disk drives. His wife and kids serve almost exclusively to go to pick up new packages from the post office. He sleeps on a pile of bubble wrap just out of view of the camera, all of his waking hours consumed by opening packages. This is his future.
David, your show.... - you said in this video you don't yet know what those tools are you were sent. The blue folding pocket with a few tools are tools for opening latch closed devices like tablets, cell phones, etc. I bought that exact folding blue pouch of tools myself just recently (serendipity?), from Amazon, and use them for that purpose (ie opening devices). Basically you insert a fine blade (ie metal, nylon, plastic) on those tools into a seam in the device and pry it open, carefully!), hopefully in a way that doesn't damage the device or marr it up any. The device can be closed back up simply by pressing the pieces back together. I love your show and the shared nostalgia experiences you have (my first real computer was a vic-20 and I later got a commodore 64 and computed for decades with it. Thanks and best wishes! Great show!
The Commodore 16 Datasette is the same as the C64 Datasette, just with a different color scheme and a different connector. It is possible to make an adapter to use a C64 Datasette with a C16, although the opposite adapter is more common to find, because the C16 and Plus/4 were not big sellers, so apparently Commodore had an overstock of the matching brown Datasettes that C64 owners adapted to use -- or perhaps because many C16 and Plus/4 owners upgraded to a C64 but wanted to keep their original Datasette.

Another female viewer and lover of old tech checking in....hi! :) I absolutely love your videos, and they inspired me to finally learn how to repair electronics, specifically retro game consoles & cartridges - as I am a collector. I have also begun studying pcb basics in my spare time as well, because your video on BASIC and the 6502 chip was such a captivating look into the early days of 8 bit technology, that I was compelled to research it further. I had always wanted to learn this stuff, but never knew where to start until I came across your channel, so I just had to leave a comment to say THANK YOU DAVE! You can't use a 220V European Commodore power supply on a passive adapter when you have 110V, you need a step down transformer. Or just use an existing 110V Commodore supply or build a new one.

Koodos to all the generous viewers. You restore my faith in humanity. And I remember the Commodore 1200 baud modem. It was my very first modem and you were dead on about it. All my friends who were on BBSes had 300 baud modems, so mine was the fastest. It cost me $115CDN at the time and got me started online to this day. I ended up running my own BBS with it using a variety of BBS software like EBBS for the C64 as well as others and eventually also ran BBSes on my Amiga later on. Good times. I'm a little jealous about those TRS80 games. It was one of the first computers I ever used, the TRS80 model 1 and 2 mainly. Its an ok under $100 station for beginners/amateurs. Overall its on the bottom of the list for acceptable soldering irons. What you really want nowadays is at least integrated heater/sensor cartridge design like Hakko T12 fx951($250)/JBC C245 CDB(~$450), or cheap induction heating Quick 202D ($100).
3:05 Correction (and no I am not a Canadian): Canada does actually use the same plug type as the US, the product could have just been imported or the person who donated it previously lived in a PAL region.
I was born in the late 80's and these kind of vintage items made me aware what computers are in my mom's office. It makes me feel younger watching these videos. 🤣
In 2:23 I think that's a hardware MIDI card, I remember buying one back in the late 90s. Connecting this to the MIDI port of certain soundcard, and in game you will have much much better MIDI music effect.
So you worked for AST, David? I did desktop tech support for AST Advantage computers at a call centre here in Canada from 1997-1999. Weirdly fond memories of those days.
Holy smokes! Those russian handhelds.... i am so jelous of you right now, had few of those when i was like 6. Sadly they are lost to me now. The one with wolf and rabbit was most popular as it was based on popular in post soviet blocks russian cartoon.
Surprisingly enough, this particular one features Mickey and Minnie mouse, i.e. it is the exact clone of Nintendo's original. I think this version is much more rare than the one with Wolf and Hare, at least I've never seen one before.
i had one of these myself, played for hours. Wolf & Hare with the wolf catching eggs rolling down the ramps left and right .. Ibam from (East) Germany by the way, not russian. But I think my mother bought it in Moscow, Minsk or Kiev.
Oh man -- I had one of those 1200-baud Commodore model 1670 modems back in the day. I was *SO* excited when I finally was able to get one of those!! Upgrading from 300-baud to 1200-baud was *unbelievable*!! Amazing how slow that is today, though. Another piece that I got, which excited me greatly back in the day, was a Commodore SFD-1001 floppy drive. *Really* a rare thing -- it had an IEEE-488 interface on it, like the PET floppy drives, and it required a special cartridge to run it on a C64. But it would format a standard 360K floppy disk with 1.05MB of capacity!! It used both sides of the disk simultaneously, and it stuffed the tracks closer together. It worked surprisingly well, all things considered. I wish I still had that drive -- bet it'd be worth quite a bit to a collector today. But I gave away all my C64 stuff in the late '90s sometime. Oh well...
Hey, Vanja is another girl's name! Also the artwork said 'utne', which is the sender's last name :) CUT THE SHRINKWRAP! That tetris clone was my very first came 'console'. So cool to see one again :)
That AST Gridpad brought back memories. I had the Tandy Z-PDA ("Zoomer") branded version and used the heck out of it. It had an x86-compatible processor with some version of DOS and Geoworks in ROM. Geoworks was actually upgradable (or at least modifiable?) so you could run multiple applications at the same time. The built-in handwriting recognition was pretty bad, but you could upgrade it to Graffiti, Palm's short-hand, and then it worked remarkably well. I remember there was a Tetris game (clone?) available that made use of the D-pad and buttons on the bottom. I spent a lot of time playing that and Othello on it. I managed to connect it to a modem and do some crude e-mail checking on it. I also managed to print something to an original Apple Laserwriter with it, just because I could. Mine disappeared sometime in high school (stolen?) and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one again.

Overall its on the bottom of the list for acceptable soldering irons. What you really want nowadays is at least integrated heater/sensor cartridge design like Hakko T12 fx951($250)/JBC C245 CDB(~$450), or cheap induction heating Quick 202D ($100).
3:05 Correction (and no I am not a Canadian): Canada does actually use the same plug type as the US, the product could have just been imported or the person who donated it previously lived in a PAL region.
that thumbnail....
I really like the donations unboxing videos, it is always fun to see what you get. I'm really looking forward to the video with the C64 sound sampler.
Love how "Pond software" has borrowed the "Ocean software" logo :D
I never knew that Clint loves packing peanuts so much. Maybe I should send him a box full of them.
I thought I'm the only Hungarian viewer. nice to see there are others too
I was born in the late 80's and these kind of vintage items made me aware what computers are in my mom's office. It makes me feel younger watching these videos. 🤣
There are pretty much only three comments here, copied over and over again:
*LOL, THUMBNAIL!!
*Canada has the same plug as US.
*I'M A WOMAN.
lul
Vulpez Vulpez *LOL meta comment!
Don't forget "Hi Clint!"
Fucking hell... literally ^
The estrogen levels are through the roof.
16:11 For just a few frames, you can see “3.99” marked in white on the back of the Commodore calculator. At one point it was in a thrift store!
Canada doesn't have a different plug style from the US, that was a European model.
ThatGTAFan720 yeah that guy who sent from Canada must of imported from EU
I really like these videos, It's like Christmas circa 1980s all the time!
RIP cassette drive 😥
padistedor :-(
You have some generous viewers! Congrats on the Hakko FX-888D soldering station. I have one and it was worth every penny. :)
As Luke Skywalker once said "I like nachos with my Nintendos!"

3:06 8-bit guy: Canadians have different power supplies
Most Canadians: bruh
Pond Software? Is that some kind of relation to 8/16-bit era game company Ocean? (due to similar name and almost the same logo)
They were a big Ocean, we are a tiny Pond :)
Seems you have a lot of fans from Norway. Cool! I like that I am not alone! Keep up the good work David!
Where do you keep all this stuff!?
wondering the same thing thats a lot of stuff, and a lot more to come
Jim Hetrick He has a special TARDIS room. It's small on the outside, but HUGE on the inside.
Sure he can store all this now but if this keeps on in some months he will have rooms filled with stuff lol his house wont be enough
In 2:23 I think that's a hardware MIDI card, I remember buying one back in the late 90s. Connecting this to the MIDI port of certain soundcard, and in game you will have much much better MIDI music effect.
is pond software a dehydrated version of ocean software ? :)
Possibly!
yessss!!!
I love the official donation of the tape drive followed by a handshake. All its missing is journalists and a bunch of flashes going off.
3:05 we use the same one
3:06 Canada outlets are the exact same as the US, though that plug seems to be for Poland
Canadians don't have a different plug style.
Except for our women....
I... don't get it, sorry.
sitting in a box like that is super nostalgic that was the other half of the fun at christmas when i was young was playing with the boxes lol
You have 2 female viewers. I'm a girl and I love your show. ❤️
99nerka Я ждал этот коммент)))
russian spy spotted!!!
i had one of these myself, played for hours. Wolf & Hare with the wolf catching eggs rolling down the ramps left and right .. Ibam from (East) Germany by the way, not russian. But I think my mother bought it in Moscow, Minsk or Kiev.
In Soviet Russia, Gameboy plays you!
Oh well...
I'm a female and I love your videos! haha
OMG! My grandparents had one of those brick games and I used to play it all the time! I'd completely forgotten about it until now :o
Emily Kiewicz isn't your only female viewer, you have at least two :-)
Hey, Vanja is another girl's name!
Also the artwork said 'utne', which is the sender's last name :)
CUT THE SHRINKWRAP!
That tetris clone was my very first came 'console'. So cool to see one again :)
Second female viewer reporting in!
David, in case it's not been said the power plug from Samual was the CEE/7, it's 220V 50Hz found in France and former French North Africa.
We need a video called "repairing and restoring a old commodore calculator"
Naurava_Pottu Peruna And it did come!
Adam Mzaour yep :d
:D*
With plenty of crusty and rusty foam, lolz
5:25: someone just get rid of evidence from a crime scene on you! :)
Augie Chapin /r whoosh
"Falling fast may cause unscheduled disassembly" made me laugh way more than it should, I'll be stealing that!
"It has America Online installed!" - It has what? OOOOHHH ... I forgot AOL was abbreviated from something in ancient history!
@2:02 going by the stamps, the package was posted in Belgium.
the pond logo looks like the ocean logo
ayyオイカorb ャulonlmao Been scrolling through the comments waiting for this. More than a coincidence more than likely...
Definitely not a coincidence haha :) Isn't it great to see games still being developed for the c64 ?
It's a tribute - they were a great Ocean, we are a tiny Pond :)
Ooh! The 6-Pak! Definitely a must! Your copy looks like it may have been a pack-in.
"I hate the people who send me stuff I dont want" lol, that's a little harsh
Whoa! You have a lot of fans, and I'm one of them. Someday, I'll send you somethhing, but meanwhile I've got to tell you: You are amazing, David :D !
Lmao I always find myself on channels with only 3 other females, hello fellow females!
