some cafes and diners might have extra entrances closed for winter due to cold but this one has the back entrance closed for years due to a prolonged war between serpent men and a forgotten beast
I'm imagining a cheerful little "opening soon!" sign on the door next to the dire "DO NOT OPEN" warnings and pictograms of dwarves being slaughtered by monsters, lol
Oh that noise? That's just the ancient horror from the depths that is periodically burning everything past that door, we've just decided to keep the door closed, don't worry about it .
In this video, I learned that the water control room and its access passageway should not be placed on the same level as the water channel that is about to be filled
In my opinion this is exactly how to play DF, as a story telling device and not as a min-max game. Well played sure I enjoyed enormously this story, thank you for sharing. I loved the river.
Agree... but seeing some of the FUN ends to fortresses, these dwarves do actually have it pretty good. My own dwarves are living in the lap of beardy luxury compared to these fellows
3:00 I found out its better to use doors if you have to run away, but also you can get to the tile above it and dig it out that way with the channeling if you have finite dwarves
I once had a very similar idea to that river, instead making a waterfall through the middle of the tavern so we could have mist :). turns out it was mostly just good for muddy tavern brawls
Love this series and hope to see a lot more of this world! You do a superb job showing how wonderfully the mechanics of this game are tied with the storytelling aspect. Tight editing and very pleasant narration. Your channel deserves the attention it is receiving!
Treasonromanced sounds like a truly cursed item. It shall bring you fame and riches, but everyone who ever lay eyes on it would want it for themselves...
I recently started getting into DF because of the Steam version, and me and my friends stumbled on to your videos and fell in love. The stories are so well done, and I love your voice! It's such a calm and silly atmosphere to vibe to. Your thumbnails are also simple but very capturing, and they almost remind me of Baba Is You xP. TLDR: I love your videos and can't wait to see more!!
You can dig into water on a diagonal to slow the flow a bit (for those who are not aware, this also depressurizes water and stops it from going up levels too). having a door on your path to the water control room would have been a good idea too, just be aware that doors can get blocked open if stone gets washed into them. I tend to go a bit overkill in situations like this and do a diagonal, then a stairs up to a water control room. Another little trick that could have saved your wall builder, is to build two walls, then suspend one. this forces the dwarf to build it on the side you want them to build it on. honestly though I probability wouldn't have thought to do this in your situation till it was too late though.
Oh the stories DF can produce. Loving the new Steam version. My current run, I have 40-odd war dogs, and have been constantly training one group of dwarves to only wear gauntlets. The captain has been here from the beginning and has good teaching and *biting* abilities. They have all become very good wrestlers, punchers/kickers/biters. They all have at least 3 war dogs assigned to them. We moved *right next to* some goblin fortresses on purpose. When they come, the dogs go at them en-masse, one or two will die before my wrestlers run over, wrestle down the goblins, who are subsequently torn apart by dogs and dwarves who fight like dogs.
I just subscribed. I absolutly love the way that you blend story and gameplay in your videos! I have been trying to find content like this that highlights key moments in a DF run instead of long format lets plays with too many hours of video to get through. Keep up the good work!
You have huge potential my friend. I subscribed quite fast from being immersed in your storytelling style combined with the many possibilities that DF can offer. Your channel will grow fast if you continue with this format, and even more when the game gets more popular when Adventure mode and more updates come out.
Found your channel thanks to RUclips recommendations (probably because I've been playing nothing but DF too) and just wanted to say. Your content is so effortlessly watchable and comfy, really love it. Keep it up! 👍
Good video! Learned a bit more about this game because of it! My first embark was next to a river where a giant alligator proceed to eat every last dwarf.
Glad to see some new creators. Hope you don’t get overwhelmed by all the support - it can be daunting to create with an audience. Really enjoyed your approach. I can’t believe just how cursed your run has been though. I’ve not seen this much bad luck ever in a fort!
I've always wanted to do this! I just assumed that patrons would end up more terrified than pleased when a cave spider webs the whole tavern. But maybe this way I'd finally have a reason to approve all those monster slayers who come to my fortress armed with nothing but copper armor and books as weapons.
Regarding water control, if you build a diagonal 1-1 hole next to the water source you can actually reset the level at which your water will rise to. Also creates its own source in the process.
shoutout to the dwarven woman who sacrificed herself to save your tavern, she will be missed. also, i just found your content and i love your voice and narration, keep it up!
I always find this interesting as so far I haven't encountered anything significant in any of my fortresses aside from a forgotten beast that died before it could kill my overtrained squad of 4. All in all I enjoy stories like this as they give me hope that something interesting will happen.
I actually tried to do something really similar in my first fort! ...Except for some reason my "Monster Slayers" spend all their time at the tavern and the temple...
Had this video in my recomendations, watched it, saw the playlist to the full extent and now am in a strange mood yearning for a bunch of cute dingo waiters/waitresses sacrificing children to even bigger dingos in a new and improved cafe Great content and keep it up!
Military alerts are no longer in the steam release. My tactic has been making an internal burrow with all dwarfs assigned, and then suspending that burrow with the pause button from the burrow screen as long as it’s safe outside
I didn't expect to see a comeback to the nazush in this new fortress Really enjoying these little story element, having recently started playing the steam version. So far nothing bad happened to me but I have a sneaky feeling that something FUN is about to happen, especially since my home civilisation is at war with the dwarve right next to my colony
@hoodiehair Probably so. I'm planning on getting the Steam version, so I can create the nightmarish Prison of Ancientvault, where I would imprison some random dwarf.
Here's a challenge, as little mining as possible in terms of building space. You can mine as much as you want, so you can find metal and new caverns.. BUT you can ONLY build in natural caves (and top side)
some cafes and diners might have extra entrances closed for winter due to cold but this one has the back entrance closed for years due to a prolonged war between serpent men and a forgotten beast
I'm imagining a cheerful little "opening soon!" sign on the door next to the dire "DO NOT OPEN" warnings and pictograms of dwarves being slaughtered by monsters, lol
My kind of tavern. Always a minute away from complete destruction
Don't dead open iside 😂
it also served as their only front door...
Oh that noise? That's just the ancient horror from the depths that is periodically burning everything past that door, we've just decided to keep the door closed, don't worry about it .
lets hope that nobody notices the body of the dwarf who sacrificed herself floating past the tavern, lol
I was totally expecting that to happen when he mentioned the tavern visitors blissful ignorance on that subject xD

In this video, I learned that the water control room and its access passageway should not be placed on the same level as the water channel that is about to be filled
It can be, you just have to channel out the last tile for the water inlet from the level above
Yeah and most of all honestly is to remember whenever you trying to "release" a liquid on a path do so on a level above with channeling, much safer.
and use one or two doors instead of a floodgate wich are watertight as long nobody walks thrugh and then lock those with a lever
Or use a wider corridor, mine a single square connected to a 3 wide corridor.
Or, dig the final square at a diagonal to the water source to diffuse water pressure.
This feels like a story our parents use to tell us when they had to walk to school back when they were kids.
The dwarven woman sacrifice felt like it was from a nineties thriller movie. RIP dwarven woman you'll never be forgotten.
In my opinion this is exactly how to play DF, as a story telling device and not as a min-max game. Well played sure I enjoyed enormously this story, thank you for sharing. I loved the river.
Cavern tavern is actually an amazing concept for some simple procedural JRPG, well done!
you will always be remembered for your great sacrifice, Mafol.
so happy your channels doing well! Keep it up, HH!
:o real
"What can you do? Sometimes dwarves don't know how good they have it."
That is some pure gaslighting there.
Agree... but seeing some of the FUN ends to fortresses, these dwarves do actually have it pretty good.
My own dwarves are living in the lap of beardy luxury compared to these fellows
Yes, but also Boatmurdered.
@@vadandrumist1670 Dwarf Pilled and Boatmurdered
Watched a lot of your videos. This one is my favorite yet. I hope you enjoy making these as much as I do watching them. Kind regards!
thank you!
i also did
2:47 OHHHH SO THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT
That Nazush brings misfortune wherever it goes
It would have been hilarious if the dwarf woman's body had washed into the glass viewing area. XD
The legendary return of Treasonromanced. This is why I love this game!!!!
3:00 I found out its better to use doors if you have to run away, but also you can get to the tile above it and dig it out that way with the channeling if you have finite dwarves
Loving this storytelling content, I hope your channel gets the recognition it deserves
This is the greatest dwarf fortress video on youtube.
At this point i believe this Nazush is cursed
3:16 Mafol. You died saving your people through your courageous act. Rest in Peace.
I just watched your entire channel and you upload!! great
I once had a very similar idea to that river, instead making a waterfall through the middle of the tavern so we could have mist :). turns out it was mostly just good for muddy tavern brawls

Decorate the tavern with engraved slabs dedicated to all those dwarfs who sacrificed themselves making the dream happen
Treasonromanced sounds like a truly cursed item. It shall bring you fame and riches, but everyone who ever lay eyes on it would want it for themselves...
Jesus your good at this game. Just been learning the game and it’s so fun. Thanks for the video, lots of cool ideas
This is what I pay internet for
Your videos convinced me to finally try this game and you’re my new favorite df RUclipsr. Keep it up! ❤
I love these episodic dwarf fortress videos!
I love your ability to find and tell these stories!
I recently started getting into DF because of the Steam version, and me and my friends stumbled on to your videos and fell in love. The stories are so well done, and I love your voice! We're 8 seconds in, and this is already one of the most dwarfy things I've ever heard.
This is pretty classic DF through and through. Thanks for the lovingly narrated tale of woe, and woe, and woe, and an attractive water feature.
I cant believe how quickly your growing this is so cool. I know I only got here yesterday but you've already gained nearly 1000 subs since then.
I'm really in love with this short form, story telling type content. Excellent job, I thoroughly enjoyed myself
I found your channel since the steam release and I'm impressed. It's always worth watching whatever you decide to share

Such a great little story! This is the stuff I imagine when I think of Dwarf Fortress, great work!
Your playthrough stories are quickly becoming my favorites!
My prayers to the lady that sacrificed herself for the good of the tavern

Neat idea, this is really great, actually one of your best, the new game allows for a lot of storytelling :]
I love how this story starts

This was entertaining. I'm not good enough to play Dwarf Fortress like this yet, but it's cool to see how it plays out for experienced players.
Thank you for unintentionally teaching me how to make water fall off the map.
good bibeo had good time observing it
I've always wanted to do this! I just assumed that patrons would end up more terrified than pleased when a cave spider webs the whole tavern. But maybe this way I'd finally have a reason to approve all those monster slayers who come to my fortress armed with nothing but copper armor and books as weapons.
Superbly done my man! loved that you took clips of it so we could follow along!
its like a theme park for dwarf you get to safely drink and safely swing your axe
Regarding water control, if you build a diagonal 1-1 hole next to the water source you can actually reset the level at which your water will rise to. Also creates its own source in the process.
that was hell of a story bro
inspires me to play the game again
You're my new favorite channel. I honestly can't wait for your uploads.
taverhn and cavehrn
Thanks for including the bit where you fortified the stone to allow it to drain, I wasn't sure how to do that.
Finally the youtube algorithm has blessed me with some good DF content. praise be
This was funny and also an interesting idea that I'll be trying
This made me remember the cities of Tibia, that had their underground areas filled with monsters that could overrun the city at any moment.
All your videos are so cozy
The power of Dwarf Fortress is every game is a different experience, and you just arent able to match the pure chaos and loving buffoonery.
Death by falling objects, death by drowning, death by lava, death by ghosts, death by cave monsters... "Welcome to Dwarf Fortress"
I laughed, i cried, i pondered, and i learned. I also subbed.
I love DF stories like this. Please keep them up!
That baby who got abandoned in the cavern probably turned into some kind of subterranean Tarzan dwarf.
2:28 Absolutely Heartbreaking
shoutout to the dwarven woman who sacrificed herself to save your tavern, she will be missed.

i was kind of expecting the body to wash up by the tavern window and terrify everyone

I actually tried to do something really similar in my first fort! ...Except for some reason my "Monster Slayers" spend all their time at the tavern and the temple...
Sounds like it’s time for a cavern tavern / temple combo.
Try forbidding visitors from entering your temple
Tavern in a cavern with the dwarven... AAAAYYYYYYEEEE!!!!!!!!
There is no emergency alert on the steam version, it's a major flaw
im glad im not the only one missing the emergency alert button in the steam version
May the mead flow eternally in your taverns.
emergency alert... create a burrow and then add everyone to it. You can then pause the burrow to deactivate it.
that's what, a thousand subscribers in 2 weeks ? keep it on ! you're doing great 👍👍👍
yeah like 1,500 since the launch last week! It's been nuts! Thank you!
Currently the most replayed portion of the video is to that glass industry chart. The game makes you hungry for knowledge
very quickly becoming my favorite DF related channel. love your little adventures.

That was awesome, would be amazing to visit the Cavern Tavern in adventure mode!
Dwarf fortress player since i was 9. The new steam release is such an insane update for playability and ease of access.
I didn't expect to see a comeback to the nazush in this new fortress
Really enjoying these little story element, having recently started playing the steam version. So far nothing bad happened to me but I have a sneaky feeling that something FUN is about to happen, especially since my home civilisation is at war with the dwarve right next to my colony
you have GREAT FORTUNE coming
Some would say this was a tale of woe and tragedy, but others more doughty would say there were a series of minor if remarkable accidents.
3:00 Damn, that's some Chernobyl-level damage control... this game looks interesting...
I love this new Hoodieverse! Praise the nazush!
Thanks! I got some ideas for my own cavern tavern :)
Since Treasonromancned was taken, does that mean your last fortress, the people's fortress, was eventually destroyed?
just checked and it appears to be doing quite well actually. population ~200. Maybe they just gave it away because it was cursed.
@hoodiehair Probably so. I'm planning on getting the Steam version, so I can create the nightmarish Prison of Ancientvault, where I would imprison some random dwarf.
Kruggsmash is proud of you and so i am.
Here's a challenge, as little mining as possible in terms of building space.
