      Why were they ever hired and promoted? The middle management (politicians/drama queens) must be gutted out since they don't add value. These idiots will only "yes' people under them. At the same time, they are rejecting qualified people so they won'tt be challenged. These are weak ass management and simply weak ass human beings.

    This is exactly the kind of coordinated effort from these companies that should be met with a coordinated effort from workers across the economy, across all sectors. We cannot let these few wealthy people arbitrarily destroy our quality of life and work. We need to fight back, somehow.

    So dumb. I have been WFH for 12 years and I got all my work done, very well. I am a very productive and well regarded employee. I get more work done at home than I did in the office. It really is the best thing. Saves money, saves my mental health, and I get to spend more time with family.

    Here in Ontario they keep saying we have a "housing crisis". Not enough housing space. Convert half of the offices out there into housing space, and leave half of them as office space on a hotelling basis for the people who don't want to work from home. It blew my mind that our premier was saying, at the same time, "We have to get people back to work so all these empty buildings will be occupied" and "we have so many people who need buildings to live in so we have to build more buildings for them to occupy" and no one is connecting the dots.

      I made a post on r/vancouver when Nordstrom closed down. My suggestion was that we turn it into a housing space because that area is going to sit there collecting dust.
      The rhetoric that subreddit shared has me concerned with the kind of people that live here. They are happy to let people suffer and stay homeless because helping these people is pointless according to them.
      These are also the same people that complain about homeless people everywhere but will block any solution because they want to put themselves first.

      great idea, but how does one convince investors this is the way to go, a mixed living and work space mades SO much sense, one's commute could be a few flights of stairs or elevator ride...the living space should be very much NOT like an office building with green space, etc., great for taking a breather from a stuffy office environment...great idea!
      I think we have something like that here where I live, cannot recall what it is called or exactly where it is located though...too much going on with a job search in this dumpster fire of a job market for this old fart

    The manager class and opaque teams who don’t actually deliver value are also culpable. Managers are fearful and feel that their directs are out of sight out of mind. Teams who DONT deliver actual client value perpetuate this lack of visibility/transparency and trust with the org. It becomes a flywheel of distrust.

    Yup, "get back in these offices that we were too short-sighted to get rid of when we still could because we're spending money on them and it looks bad if we're not in them".
    I love stupid people because they pay my bills, but I hate stupid people because they make life unnecessarily difficult.
    It's hilarious, because my employer also hit record profits when we were mostly remote and now we have to rush back to the office to "fix" that. The work got done, there were fewer distractions, and we were undoubtedly more productive in general, but here we are.

      The pain and suffering we endure for someone else's bottom line should be a human right violation.
      But then again the people who write the laws and enforce them answer to the deepest pockets.

    Experiencing a negative view of remote work/home office myself. In job interviews the employers´ reply is always the same, "We do not want this in our company. We feel the personal touch in work deteriorates with remote working." ....or simply, "We don´t want that." It is a control thing. It is about didacting an employee to come in like standing in line in the army....once they noticed that people actually like working at home companies see their leverage decreasing....so they turn around just because they can.

    • @dygres
      @dygres  2 месяца назад +4

      Absolutely on point with that statement. Executives tend to have diversified portfolios and one of the most common additions is investing in REIT (Real Estate Investment Trusts). They can be very lucrative if and only if the demand for commercial real estate keeps increasing. Brookfield is an example of this.

  • @skullptv
    @skullptv 27 дней назад +1

    Confirmed. It's just that it's never been a mystery to me, as at my workplace, this has been pretty much clear from the beginning. The numbers confirmed that the business didn't suffer during the pandemic, quite the opposite (I'm in a digital sphere) and yet, the policy has gradually been changing to more strict rules, and now, it's mandatory to come to the office at least 3 times a week. People that needed permanent home office due to various reasons are facing increasing obstructions etc. And there's just one reason - the new, fancy building the offices are located in. Anyway, 100% agree with all the other point you've made.

    I called this 3 years ago. Now you need to ask: Aren’t WFH jobs the same as “work from second and third world country jobs”? The part I don’t get is how do corporations, in competition with each other, all pivot at the same time? Who made the call? It’s a creepy idea that a person or people could do such a thing in the private sector.

    I absolutely loved WFH and I thrived in it ....until I had a baby. WFH with a baby who barely slept during day and night meant that I was getting interreupted 24/7 which also meant that every minute my baby was sleeping I had to work so there I was at 2am finishing work tasks that were given to me at 10am the previous day. Then the moving phase, once baby became mobile it was game over for me and my wife who also works from home, baby needed eyes on all the time so every minute one of us worked it was a minute the other one could not work. I missed being FORCED to go back to the office and being able to divide my day into Work time and home time but I cant justify the gasoline expense this would require (we live ridiculously far from our offices). We have no relatives close and we arent made of money so we cant ask for relatives to help nor pay for a babysitter. This is only my experience, Im sure some WFH parents can make it work with baby-toddler phase but definitely not me. I just barely survived at my job and as a parent

    • @dygres
      @dygres  2 месяца назад +1

      I get that. WFH for parents can be a big boost to their savings. Especially in Canada where the cost of daycare is through the roof.
      It is difficult to manage a balance between working and parenting but at the end of the day the savings make up for it.

  • @jeretso

    I do enjoy less traffic but I also notice WFH has more time to comment HAHA.
    WFH has more free time they can use to do chores, watch kids and work side jobs. Less SMOG is true but WFH saved so much money that some of my coworkers bought six figure pickup trucks. Even the EV trucks use more resources than small EVs. In the end foreign companies and AI will take the WFH jobs first. Mental health also takes a toll as people can't even shake hands or eat together anymore.

    So you think that you should be able to work from home for your corporation while all the people that make your food keep your house working keep the electricity on build things fix cars literally every job that doesn't require sitting in front of a computer has to go to work but you don't that's like the ultimate form of entitlement

    • @masterkc
      @masterkc 2 месяца назад +16

      That's not entitlement, if your job can be done from home by a pc...then there's literally no point wasting time on public transport.
      If 500k office workers stayed home, this would free up so much space on the roads, less pollution, more freedom for everyone to drive and park their cars, or even get to their jobs faster. No need to upgrade road infrastructure to allow for another 1 million drivers.
      Yes, lots of blue-collar jobs still have to go to work because there's no alternative 😅 it just doesn't make sense for computer related jobs to be in the office.

    100% percent correct. I love working from home, BUT my commercial property tenants have taken a bashing. Govt agencies abondoned the area, WFH 4-5 days a week, and retailers in the area are going bust. The interest rates, inflation, & rising labour costs have not helped but combined with WFH. Its a zero sum game & someone has to pay.
