No Sangam Literature or post-Sangam literature mentions Ravana as a Tamil king. Stop fantasising that Ravana was a Tamil King! Ravana's father is Vishrava, a Maharishi and his mother was a Rakshasi named Kaikasi. That's way Ravana despite being very scholarly and learned in the Vedas had Rakshas attributes from his mother. Ravana was neither born in Lanka nor did Lanka belong to him. Lanka was originally ruled by Kubera, Kubera was also the original owner the Pushpaka Vimana. For your information, Kubera is Ravana's brother. Ravana fought with his own brother to obtain the Pushpaka Vimana and gain control over Lanka. Ravana killed Shurpanakha's husband! This is why in order to take revenge on Ravana, Shurpanakha goes to Rama and acts like she was attracted to Rama and tries to harm Sita! Shurpanakha knew Lakshmana would injure her if she tried to attack Sita. Shurpanakha then alerts her cousins Khara, Dushana and 14,000 Asuras to fight Rama and Lakshmana. Rama used the Gandharvastra to kill everyone. Only Trishira and Khara were left. Ravana heard about this incident and also about Sita's beauty and personally decided to visit Rama and Sita's residence in the forest. This is how the whole Ramayana starts!
As for the Vanaras, they didn't call Tamils Vanaras! When instructing the Vanara search party the list of places to search, Sugriva lists all the Tamil Kings! Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas! He even mentions River Kaveri and Tamiraparani!

You shall go to the prosperous Mt. Malaya which is crowded with iron-ore mines as its vast mouths, and with amazing crests and motley flowered forests. Search shall be carried out on that great mountain in the places that are with the copses of sandalwood trees. From there you shall go and see the divine River Kaaveri there, a receptacle of limpid waters, to where throngs of apsaras will be making pleasure-trips. You shall see the eminent sage Agastya, whose resplendence is akin to that of the Sun, and who will be sitting on the top of that highly resplendent Mt. Malaya. And when that great-souled Agastya complaisantly permits you, then you shall leave that mountain and cross over the great River Taamraparni, a highly cherished river of crocodiles.
Valmiki even describes the beauty of the Pandiya Kingdom!

Kavaatam was the capital of the Pandyas during the Second Sangam period. Ramayana happened during this era! So you really think they called Tamil kings as monkeys and asuras! FYI Mt.
