Excellent job! Everything is well described in your video. I made this same repair to my 1985 a while ago. I wish I had been able to see your video first. These wires are so delicate. I used the carb cleaner on a towel and tried to scrub the tiny wires at both ends. Mine was so sticky the float was staying at the bottom with a full tank. The old gas tends to make a coating (varnish) on them. As for the gauges, VDO is supposed to be such good equipment. My experience has not been that great on Porsche or Mercedes Benz. Keep on making great videos on your 928. If anything like mine, there will always be something to service or repair!
I know what you mean about the gauges. My fuel gauge still only shows 3/4 at full and the volt gauge reads low too. Both can be adjusted for, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm in the process of getting my car fixed up cosmetically now that it's more or less sorted mechanically.
I haven't. Since doing this I've had the cluster out again to put in the 5 speed tach. When I had it out I made sure to clean all of the contacts well for all of the gauges and where the wiring harness connects to it. I could still try cleaning the contacts in the CE, but other wires I'v had apart in there have been clean. Could just be the gauge too maybe. Or could still be the sender.

Did you ever figure out why the gauge didn’t read full at the top end of travel? Need to clean electrical ground somewhere?

Your gauge is like mine, full is between 3/4 and full
Is your handle on rennlist the same?
no, captainOCD
Using Techron concentrated fuel cleaner once a year would prevent it.
