      But what if THEY like to pass blame, lie about the position and policies, talk negatively to show that "They have all the POWER" and show little real leadership?? I've been in a situation like that. I never bothered to reply to their snide email asking to come back and start the hiring process all over from the beginning after they strung me along for almost two weeks....

      Ironically, these don't apply to the recruiters and interviewers. Quite a few recruiters will talk to you as if they're the CEO of the company, and you should be obliged for their time. Some interviewers will lead you to a corner that they have been working on for the past 14 years, and expect you to answer correctly within 45 minutes.

    Thank god im retired,being judged so much before you even get the job.When I was a kid starting out employers would give you a chance and if you messed up you were out.Now you have to be a psycologist to get a job at Amazon.I am going to be negative now (cos I can)
    I feel sorry for the young of today they have so much going against them.I feel that if they put themselves into 100k of debt and studied hard to buy thier place in the American ''dream''.They have been ripped off.God help America

    I used to look at interviews as me begging for their acceptance. Nowadays I look at them as finding out if this is really a place I want to work.
    It makes a huge difference in how you approach it.

      @Al Knowing That's alright, recruiter arrogance is one of my filters. I wouldn't want to work for your company. You clearly demonstrate a lack of understanding of a healthy employer/employee relationship and since they trained you, it likely permeates the entire enterprise.
      Furthermore, as a recruiter, hiring decisions are not yours to make. Your job as a recruiter is to pitch the company as a great place to be and direct the suckers who believe your lies to HR for the hiring process.
      You're basically a car salesman. You don't do finance or sign anything important, you just caress the wood trim and coo "feel how nice it is!"
      If you sit there and talk shit about how I probably don't even deserve to own such a high class automobile and should simply appreciate having the opportunity to test drive one, I'm walking out.

    How can you be sincere if you’re having to count the sentences you use to answer each separate part of a story to an exact formula set by your interviewer? Sincerity is spontaneous and a little chaotic, not calibrated and rule-driven.

      There's an old saying that goes something like 'if you bend over too far to kiss the ass of someone all you wind up doing is throwing your back out'. Meaning be yourself and be honest; assuming you are a decent qualified person with basic social skills that should be enough. Don't go too far trying to figure out what people want to hear; that is the opposite of sincerity.

      My son work there at the entry level position and many people there are on drugs. A lot of drugs. Also they don’t let people talk during work hours when easily could make the job enjoyable it’s just a nasty place

      Well the good things? Insurance is cheap, like 60 dollars a month for the best coverage you can find cheap. You get 60 hours unpaid sick time, 60 hours paid sick time and 60 hours vacation a year. And the people there are usually really nice.
      Of course you work 50-60 hour work weeks for 6-8 months a year, get fired for being away from your station for more than an hour a week(restrooms are a ten minute walk away usually), will be expected to work at ridiculous speeds (200-800 items per hour).
      There’s a reason the average expectancy for new hires is 8 hours post orientation.

      Over Worked thanks, As a former employee there I try to spread info on just ho bad it to work at Amazon. Mean I didn’t even mention the noise, heat, fault equipment and the list just goes on. Let me put it this way, during Christmas season they expect people to work so hard that the you can literally smell the conveyor belts beginning to melt from being overloaded.

    preparing answers for any interview already implies an immature charade: either two mature adults can have a dialogue, based on common sense or not. why should anybody want to work for somebody else if such dialogue isn’t possible...

      That's crap. If someone asks you about a specific situation you either tell the truth or say nothing. If you were you to blame you take the blame, if someone else was to blame you put it on them or say nothing. The worst thing you can do is get caught in a lie. This practice of putting a smiley face on every situation is just a measure of weak character. They ask questions like this to see how bendable you are to authority; which can come back on you in all kinds of ways, most of them bad. Be truthful and if they don't like the truth then you don't need to work there.

    I have decided to check employers intelligence to match my capabilities as interview is mutual and I have to decide even if I am paid well I have to check if my employer whom I work exhibit those traits.. Never work for one who is driven by words and not by action. Don't get your life screwed and stop complaining even if you are innocent you are accountable for your failures and not your employers.

    I'm assuming that this is for "professional" jobs at Amazon, and not at their fulfillment warehouses. Because those places have some of the highest turnover in the world. They have to keep hiring people because they can't keep the employee's they have there long enough.

    I’m no expert on interviewing or being an interviewee (mostly depends on how desperate they are and how much you fit!) but in my 45 years in IT (mostly as an independent consultant for 3/6 month projects) BE YOURSELF! You won’t be able to last long if you put on an act... and you won’t feel comfortable- pretending to be someone else - so Amazon sounds like a bunch of stuck up pricks... and a skip ‘em! I’ve also walked out of “Skills Tests” or panels reading tech questions of a list... though I have stuck around long Enuff to point out how idiotic a printed question can be...
    Like “George, what directive should you use to keep a CURSOR current for set processing in SQL?” “The WITH HOLD option” “Good” “But I would never use it” “Why?” “Think about it, what more likely to fail, the Database or the Operating System? The Database! So what happens to the current value in WITH HOLD, it’s goes bye-bye” “Oh?” “And I’m done, if you don’t know the answers of your own tech questions then it would be a nightmare for me to work here...” that was Verizon!

      Someone commented about “not having had to interview in the last few years” (but it’s not here?) In any case au contraire… Chase packaged me - and a LOT of old farts out last year using the “Plandemic” as their excuse to replace American Citizens with ever more H1Bs so I was “back on the beach” took a gig with the Department of Labor (for $30 an hour, lowest rate ever) found an FTE job with a FinTech - Production Support from 11PM to 7AM - and it took four months to find a daytime gig as a FTE paid consultant… the trick? Skills? Knowledge? Experience? No, my old boss at Chase (also packaged out) pulled me in… how did he get a job after 20 years with Chase… someone he knew pulled him in…
      Make sure you keep up with people in your profession. Probably the ONLY useful reason to go up college! (Cause the IT grads they are churning out are pitifully unprepared to compete with Indian College grads!)

    I've been contacted by Amazon recruiter. Those videos are making me think twice about going though the process. If i wanted to repeat 10 commendme...i mean 14 principles i would have found religion. Place sounds like a cult.

    This kind of qualified check is the problem really. I know many HR types who come with a list of specific must haves. Thing is generally no one guides a person/employee into any specific way of behaviour. I've seen companies offer training, but when we get there it's more a job for the trainer than actually developing the individual. I think with the old apprenticships, a young person was accepted for being a noob, took extensive training and then knew what the job was. I've met people who claim to have the official qualifications but I can soon tell if they know what they are doing. Most just bluff.

    ** Here in the USA 🇺🇸 Amazon has a 150% turn over rate. The conflict here is they want you to avoid saying anything negative but bringing up the problems that cause them to have such a high turn over in the first place is nothing but negative. They are what we call too big to fail here in the states. You'll either put up with their crap or you won't work their. Personally, I'd rather invest and avoid them as an employer all together.

    It seems blaming others is not realistic yet in fact the truth is the truth...We are living in a world with negative growth.This impacts us all in some form.Not all people are compatible with everyone and we dont live in a perfect world.First rule of success is to be relaxed Get to know your team and that all takes time.Due to education standards varying from country to country from school to school from university to university all teach different communication styles and methods its whats important to your proffessor at the time.Understanding english is very different even in english speaking countrys and then theres different discourses from within the spectre of communication.That then depends where the human resource management learnt there communication .Many HR people dont even give proper job roles to the relevant degree studied.There is no one system fits all.Roles and job titles for doing the same role differs from company to company and country to country .

    just emulate bezos - without arrogance. imagine that you own a business. this is where most techies fail. tech skills are overrated. not all LPs are created equal. Deliver results / Ownership / Customer Obsession are most important. The rest - are just basic culture and class. Not blaming others - you should have learned from your parents. Candidates from lower social classes have problem with those.

    I really would like a job with Amazon I have ran and operated and own my own company for the last 12 years is it going to be hard for me since I owned and operated my own company with the referral process because now being a woman that is 47 years old I'm worried about it but I have plenty of experience running my own business but I'm a little scared hitting the new business market I lost my business in covid and now I'm going to look for a new path I am trying to get a startup to start a new business cuz that might be the best thing but I always loved Amazon and what tips can you give me and like where should I start and what would be the best way to start my resume when I had my own business for 14 years like honestly I don't know where to be in I know exactly how to run a business I know exactly what it takes the hiring marketing advertising HR web design social media ads I mean everything but that was for my business and I own at once I had 20 employees and that was it so I'm a little worried I sent in a lot of resumes but I don't think I did it right because all I got back was a bunch of scam jobs

    Rigorous hiring process? It’s a drug test and background check, that’s literally it, it’s not even an interview. You apply, pass those two, then get hired.

    ITheir questions are definitely not role specific and force you think outside of the box. I had 4 of 5 interviews today and I am left wondering if the company is worth my investment. They are very customer driven compared to all my roles that never involved working with customers but more internal stakeholders. The questions seemed to lean in more on stepping outside of your comfort zone to make decisions such "Tell me about a time when you had to make a decision without all information you needed" or "Tell me about a time when you invested in the short term that paid off in the long run" interview questions
    My position I applied is a non-managment role and from previous experience, there are guidelines to follow to ensure Compliance is maintained. The questions were outside of the scope of what I currently apply to my current role because we have to comply with government regulations. I have one more interview left and then they will deliberate on my candidacy.

      Thanks for sharing your experience; a small note: internal stakeholders could very well be internal customers. Also, the way you "feel" the interview went is not always an indication of your performance.

    Extremely important traits that you should have. Being sencier, don't talk shit about others, never blame others for your mistakes. Never compare yourself with others in a competitive way, compare yourself with them to learn about how you can do what you do better by maybe applying some practices that others do.
    Always strife to learn more.

      @Doug Joseph You don't have to blame anyone, not you not someone else. Shit happens so be it. Think of how you can make it better next time instead of wasting time blaming yourself or others.
      Blaming is a waste of time, and if you blame yourself it's even bad for your feeling of self worth.
      Sure you can admit your mistakes, but thats it. Time has past you can't change it so work with it. There is also no Time for apologies as long as you admit your mistakes and think of a way to improve yourself with it, a simple "I'm sorry" is more than enough to conceal it.
      A company also does not own you, and is never perfect. You can and should search for ways to improve your work there and the work of others, preferably making yourself indispensable in the Process. If the Company does not allow you to make things better and if they fight against change. It's not a good company to work for and you should not waste your time with them. Move on there are more companies.
      From ass creaping you might get high in some companies, but not in the ones that actually respect you.
      More important than any degree is the skill of problem solving.

      Just that you should never waste your time blaming the person who did the mistake. That includes you. But you sure can, and should take responsibility for your own mistakes.

      I don't see any reason to talk about it.
      See a colleague of mine asked me once how my old company is because he got an offer from them.
      I told him that compared to what he has where he is it's just not a step forward to go there.
      I didn't need to point out every bad thing that happened there, and there was a lot going on that was just shit. But who am I to complain? I moved on and I am happy now with what I got. I have no need to talk bad about them because It's in the past I can't change it. And I would just drag the negativity with me. There are so much more and better conversations topics than ranting about others.

    Haha, this is such a joke. Nice for the info, I think that actually a lot of companies do this, very sad. I also think that we live in a very "out of contex"t society, meaning that so many people that do not deal with real problems and are stuck in middle management judgement way of looking at things, without really experiencing things first hand. I remember talking to my youngest boss, that had no experience of what I did or any in my department, and the way he would just look at us af if the problems we mentioned did not exists. (yeah, that's the world of management, where things only exist on paper, and if there are no cases of our story, it does not exist) It makes the decision making a lot faster, but it also creates things like the Keto diet and Carnivoure diet that only are partially good but bad in the long run. We just live in a FAD society. "These gurus are FAKE and that is not good" it's just like listening to Trump talk about anything.

    The larger the company the greater the concentrated incompetence, either due to lack of skill, or concentrated politics, due to insecurity, or sociopathy, due to an overinflated sense of exceptionalism. Stay away.
    Look for smaller companies where you will have more autonomy and visibility.

    "Blame Others" not against this, but apparently, this is bad if you're an Amazon worker bee, but a-okay if you're the President, former Vice President or one of the former presidential candidates. It's also okay if you are part of the media (including the WaPo). In fact, much of politics is just people blaming each other. Funny how worker bees are held to a higher standard.

    Since the employee sells to the company valuable time (which he or she never gonna get back), energy (physical, in case of a physical job this is more relevant), invest mental energy (unless a company wants to hire daft people) and takes the risk to deal with some emotionally challenging stuff (let's call it stress and not talking about "stress" like getting out of the bed to go to work but serious stress) I personally think, employees ought to be allowed to interview the employers too.

    I had about 5 phone interviews and never got passed it because the questions were sometimes ridiculous, the last interview was a zombie apocalypse one where they said you are the only engineer at work for the data center, everyone else called out sick, you have no tools, no dashboards, only a laptop with a command line, network goes down...what do you do. That's when I decided to blow the interview and that would be my last time interviewing or even applying to Amazon.

    Solution: There are countless books and manuals available to train you (many on Amazon :) lol) to appropriately "understand" these questions on the "Employer Psych Test".
    SECRET: Most "failures" result from the applicant simply not understanding these fourth grade reading level questions from the EMPLOYER'S PERSPECTIVE. There are full explanations and hundreds of practice questions. If you do not use these readily available resources.....you may not "pass" these unusual tests. I believe that former testers write the books.
    Any investment in your knowledge is a great investment. Now study up for a few hours, be confident and go get that new position! Best of luck. You're welcome.
