Look, I love my wife and kid but on the rare occasion they are gone I absolutely revel in being able to sit at the bar at a great restaurant and enjoy a meal all to myself. Enjoy every moment of it James!
I was gonna say he needs to get a side chick Asian female to film him ala Mark Weins and then the camera angles wouldn't be so awkward and we wouldn't have to hear about how many times he can't get a reservation for one. Or how expensive everything is. And he could order twice as much food for us to see. Also most people would rather see a female eat even a few bites and if you're just going for the gay male audience then get an Asian male to help you. So many of your problems would be solved. Look at Nick Giovanni. He hires someone to film him. But he sorta has a bigger personality than you do. You have that geeky awkwardness like Mark Weins and you seem like a control freak so that's why I'm suggesting a submissive Asian side kick male or female. I think it would double your audience and improve the quality of your videos. You can even pretend to be solo if that's what you are really going for but at least they could film you further away and you having some dialogue with another person would make it a bit more interesting than all the shots of you taking bites of food and making all these expressions.
James, I just want to take a moment to thank you're wallet for taking the hit for us. But all kidding aside, thanks to you, we can experience restaurants like Tatiana. Which many of us will never get to visit. Great content as always.
Went to Tatiana, and the suggestion that it's the top pick two years in a row indicates some series issue with the review process. But it does belong in the top 200 for the city.
Thanks again, James, for another spectacular review . I always enjoy watching you revel in gastronomic delight among the restaurants you critique. Keep those videos coming while maintaining your labor of love.
Thank you, James! Been wanting to try it since it opened. And with all due respect to Pete Wells, I really appreciate your every person reviews. You’ve been helping me create my own list of restaurants to try.
Wells is out of touch if he thinks this is the best NYC has to offer. Looked really good but fully agree with James, that's a fierce price tag. It's little wonder they don't display prices online.
I found this spot terribly underwhelming for all the hype and the price point. The service was equally disappointing. The audio level is great for a group looking for a party but absurd for a date night. For all these reasons, it’s just not worth it for a redux when there are many better options at a lower price point and with better execution. Pete Wells is unhinged.

Omg..thanks so much for sharing. I remember hearing about Tatiana and I don't even live in NYC..:) Wonderful review as always. (& I agree the pricing did seem a little steep. I love your honesty, fairness, and tact when discussing restaurants) much love

I enjoyed my meal at Tatiana's when I went last year. However, the reservation difficulty, coupled with how pricey the dishes makes me think it's not worth it. The issue with a lot of nyc restaurants is how pricey they are for what they are offering. Maybe I'm just out of touch with nyc prices
I was lucky to have eaten here a few weeks after they opened at the bar solo before the ballet! I found as a solo diner, the large plates are too large to enjoy (they seem better as shared). I was able to go back with a friend earlier this year and we were able to order more varied dishes. Our pastrami was served on the bone. I found the overall vibe of the place so exciting and fabulous! The prices are probably due to the location and rent for the space (Lincoln Center).
Wow! What an enjoyable & interesting review so well crafted & presented. Great job in verbalizing & visualizing an extremely informative & entertaining assessment of an unique NYC restaurant - AND - I am equally confident that your assessment is "spot on" & accurate. In so many ways, you now "voice" both the practical & romantic New Yorker viewpoint of dining out & spending the money to justify such a "way of life"! While please don't ever forget your midwestern heritage, we followers can now proudly identify you as "a New Yorker" by virtue of your hard earned diligence in achieving personal excellence, goals, & success! Well done sir, and I do look forward to your next offering - thanks!

I've been waiting for this review!! Tatiana is my number one place to try next time I am in NYC (if I can get a res or a walk in seat at the bar). & I will definitely be ordering the same dessert you got. 😋🥰

Great review. He just opened a restaurant in DC called Dogon which I want to try. Also very expensive! I think it would be great if there were some modern mid priced African restaurants. You have the cheaper hole in the wall traditional immigrant places and the very high end ones done by celebrity chefs. We need some modern mid priced ones like there are with Indian restaurants.

Hi James! Thanks so much for bringing us with you on this culinary delight...I know I wouldn't have had time to go..so congratulations on having the experience!❤
James: glad you gave Tatiana's a go! It is certainly a unique experience foodiewise! I guess for a special meal! I have no problem paying big bucks for some special dishes! The 3 Jamaican Patties at $26 was not outrageous ! I'm an affionato of pastrami from Katz to Langers but at $98 it's a bit pricey! Oh well, it's worth the shot, right? Great video!
james, been watching for a while - great content! that price was shocking to be honest, michelin tasting dinners go for 200ish+ pp and those are 11-14 courses with a large variety of items.
Thanks for watching! To be fair, that pastrami I believe is the most expensive item on the menu. Dinner there doesn't have to cost that much, but it's still a costly place.
London had a couple of new stars serving West African food this year, which was quite exciting to me. Not Caribbean of course, but cuisines that had a lot of influence on Caribbean food. I've eaten at both now, Akoko the more refined with some French influences and Chishuru more of a neighbourhood restaurant that cooks somewhat more traditional food to a standard high enough to earn a star. Definitely recommend both if you're in London and want to indulge in some of the less well-represented cuisines in Michelin guides, though bear in mind Chishuru is closed at weekends. I feel you'd enjoy them as you liked Tatiana.
HI James i couldnt help but be agasp at the steep prices at Tatiana , especially considering the genre of the cuisine. Ironically in Jamaica Patty, Cocoa Bread and Curry Goat are eaten daily at any local cook shops on the island. Cheers
Why can't Caribbean food be elevated and expensive? Lots of restaurants serve food that's eaten everyday in the country the cuisine is from like most Thai, Italy, Chinese places. You pay for the craftsmanship and experience.
Having recently dined at Tatiana, I feel able to affirm unequivocally that the cost is disproportionate to the culinary experience. There is, indeed, a non-negligible, fascinating element of exoticism that distinguishes the menu and the fare. Still, the pricing derives largely from the restaurant's mythic reputation. In sum: an interesting venue with good (if not great) dining at a rather exorbitant cost. Pete Wells is a respected food reviewer whose assessments are not infrequently on the mark. When he named Tatiana as the finest restaurant in New York, however, he created an outlandish fiction to which the eatery simply cannot accede.
It's good, but for the prices I felt like it's a little overhyped. Also if you plan on going, go with a larger group so you can try more the dishes. I feel like James ordered the right stuff as a party of one, but the pastrami ain't cheap and could really be a plate for two.
Hi James Great video. I wonder about the prices at this establishment especially when one considers that his previous business in DC closed with pricing considerations. Btw. I just saw a RUclips video about a restaurant called “Hall” in NYC W17th St. it was spectacular about an America Wagyu hamburger but the restaurant seems to be Japanese fusion. I tried to look up your videos if you had already been there but nothing came up.
Hi James found ur channel recently, i know your channel is restaurant reviews but you think you could do a 1 time video about your skincare and shaving routine? Your skin always looks really healthy
I went to Tatiana a few months ago and ordered the exact same stuff you did, plus I also ordered the shrimp. While I thought it was a solid meal, I didn't think it was even close to being one of the top restaurants in NYC or deserving of a Michelin star. The best bites were those goat patties and the donut ice cream. I was disappointed in the cosmic brownie - instead of a moist, fudgy brownie mine was basically an underwhelming slice of dry chocolate cake with a little fudge on top. The pastrami was fine, but yeah definitely not worth it. The best pastrami was at Harry & Ida's. Too bad they closed.
Chef - "My love letter to New York." Me - "You mean your BILL to New York !" Just joking, James. But 2 toilets ? Yes, cocktails. That's why I stick to Margaritas. The patties. I'm a Sri Lankan Australian. My mother was a great cook, and, yes, she made great patties. If only she knew she could get US$26 for 3 of them ! Thanks, James, for another interesting food review, and all the best !
$86 for that is just obnoxious and ridiculous. I don't care what the hype is. What time did you line up for the walk-in seat? Glad you had a good time there.
I remember you're a Paris Hilton fan 😂 Im afraid nothing is interesting about this place for me, except being next to Lincoln Center. Goat curry? I'll go to the dhaba nearby that butchers their own goats ( watch out for bone fragments).
One can’t complain about the bill when the prices are clearly printed on the menu, but in 2024 it’s shameful they are not online. Maybe they are too embarrassed.
Hey James. When I don't see menu prices on the website I go to Yelp and sort by newest since lots of people post the menu from the restaurant. Also I dine alone a lot and when I get dinner at a hard to reserve place like that with a dish like pastrami it will freeze well so I would've ordered two dishes and taken some home and you have a wonderful meal another night. 😊
That's what I do too with regards to the menu. I also look at the tagged photos of the restaurant on Instagram to get a better idea of what their food looks like.
Tatiana in Brighton Beach is pretty good if you like Russian food and don’t want to wait for a reservation.😂 I went to the Japanese restaurant Momofukuco and that was a very long wait for reservations-like a year.
I would be willing to pay for the experience, but I agree with you that prices should be displayed on website menus. With reservations being difficult to acquire; It would help people plan the best experience they could:)
This is the first NYC restaurant in a long time that I want to try. The food looked really good A I want to mention a pound of pastrami at Katz or 2nd Ave Deli now runs about 49.00 and an order of Pf Chang Mongolian Beef is 30.00! So yes 86.00 is expensive but cured meat is an expensive commodity 😊
Absolutely worth the price and crazy delicious. Ive been 3 times, paid for the reservations & was still worth it. MUST try . Oxtail is divine and the pastrami sublime + service was A1 . Was gifted an off-menu Sea Scallop that brought us to tears . 10/10
Prices do seem high. The Shawarma chicken especially. Wagyu short rib seemed high until I went to SRF website and saw that their wagyu short ribs sell for $99 for 3lb. That looked like a lot of meet on your plate and I would assume the usual mark up is x2 for restaurants
I watch all his videos. I’m not a hater. But he looks like your typical privileged little kid and his high standards highlights it. Some of his complaints get on my nerves

$86 for that is just obnoxious and ridiculous. I don't care what the hype is. What time did you line up for the walk-in seat? Glad you had a good time there.
Happy 4pm USA. Love those blue sky views over NYC.
Thanks for watching!
I remember you're a Paris Hilton fan 😂
Im afraid nothing is interesting about this place for me, except being next to Lincoln Center. Goat curry? I'll go to the dhaba nearby that butchers their own goats ( watch out for bone fragments).
One can’t complain about the bill when the prices are clearly printed on the menu, but in 2024 it’s shameful they are not online. Maybe they are too embarrassed.
great review as always. Agree 100% too expensive.
Thank you!
Food looks amazing. I would not get the suya, but the menu sounds delicious
Yeah, I feel like there are better dishes on the menu for less.
Love that hamilton khaki automatic. Awesome piece!
@@relosapulso Thank you! It's one of my favorite watches.
Love your reviews!🎉
Thank you!
Another great review. The one I want to see is 4 Charles! My guess is you too!
Thank you! I'll get there eventually!
The Tom Brady patties looked good
Haha!
Honestly i would say those prices are justified considering New York, Popularity, Portion Size, Quality
Considering NY ...literally the stupidest reason ever
@@RFSpartan reason being stupid or not does not make it untrue.
The location must be super pricy too.
@@RFSpartan Cost of Living Including Rent in New York, NY is 62.5% higher than in Raleigh, NC.
Sometime you pay a premium for a experience . I'm glad you enjoyed 😊
Indeed! Thank you!
Tatiana in Brighton Beach is pretty good if you like Russian food and don’t want to wait for a reservation.😂 I went to the Japanese restaurant Momofukuco and that was a very long wait for reservations-like a year.
Excellent choices!!!
Safe Journey!
Have a great day!!!
Thanks for watching!
another very high quality video james, bro has A10 ice eyes too
Thank you!
Yes, pricey but the food looked delicious. Glad you enjoyed it James. Great video.
@@CaribbeanLife101 Thank you!
Food looks good but seems ridiculously overpriced 😬
Wow! Everything looked delicious, I wish I owned a home to take a loan out for such a wonderful meal 👍😋
It was great, but yeah, it was costly.
Is this better than Dorsia?
Haha!
Taste by Stanley Tucc was one of the best biography’s I’ve ever read
It was a great read for sure!
I would be willing to pay for the experience, but I agree with you that prices should be displayed on website menus. With reservations being difficult to acquire; It would help people plan the best experience they could:)
Cosmic brownie? Heck yeah 👍
Appropriate giving what's been going on 👽
Haha!
This is the first NYC restaurant in a long time that I want to try. The food looked really good A
I want to mention a pound of pastrami at Katz or 2nd Ave Deli now runs about 49.00 and an order of Pf Chang Mongolian Beef is 30.00! So yes 86.00 is expensive but cured meat is an expensive commodity 😊
It's a unique spot for sure and it's definitely worth a try.
Wow, a place for the hardest reservation finally beat out Dorsea!
Haha!
You know things are going well with the channel when you're upgrading to the khaki field.
Great channel!
Haha! Thank you!
great review!!!
Thank you!
$18 for one cosmic brownie that’s absolutely insane. I can buy four boxes for that price.
Absolutely worth the price and crazy delicious. Ive been 3 times, paid for the reservations & was still worth it. MUST try . Oxtail is divine and the pastrami sublime + service was A1 . Was gifted an off-menu Sea Scallop that brought us to tears . 10/10
Wagyu short rib isn't a cheap piece of meat. You're comparing that to a choice brisket at Katz?
Prices do seem high. The Shawarma chicken especially. Wagyu short rib seemed high until I went to SRF website and saw that their wagyu short ribs sell for $99 for 3lb. That looked like a lot of meet on your plate and I would assume the usual mark up is x2 for restaurants
I wanted to try oxtail ever have it?
It's really good!
I love African foods. Wildebeast was better than any steak I have ever had in the US. Chutneys make EVERYTHING better!
Chutneys are great!
Will Tatiana meet the hype? We know James has a high standard. Glad to see it meet the hype.
It's a great restaurant for sure!
I watch all his videos. I’m not a hater. But he looks like your typical privileged little kid and his high standards highlights it. Some of his complaints get on my nerves
