Anytime a transmission or portal gear sits on a pin inserted through a shaft, the pin seat in gear is only rounded on one side of the gear. If u look closely on ALL transmission or portal gears the gear "SHOULD" only go on one way but it can be installed either way because it appears as if it doesn't matter which side the pin sit's on, that's why we're seeing/hearing random videos of clicking SCX10III Jeeps & SCX10II UMG10's with various degrees of clicking depending how many transmission or portal gears are sitting on pins incorrectly!
The transmission or portal gear shaft pin seats are only rounded on one side of every gear that sits on a pin inserted through a shaft, if it's the wrong side it's like adding 2 or 3 shims & will create binding &/or make gears hit covers causing the clicking. Some have just been lucky cuz it's a 50/50 chance of getting each gear seated on their pins correctly!
Axial should make this clear in the instructions, luckily I saw a few other videos before I built my SCX10III Jeep. Now I need to go tear apart my UMG10 transmission cuz I didn't know this when I built that & even following the "revision" & using proper revised gear case in the UMG10 manual, it still was clicking & felt bound up.

I have just bought the scx10 iii Gladiator, it also has the clicking, Tbh it doesn't bother me , the car is outstanding in performance, it out performs my TRX4 , it may get better seated over time I think , as long as it doesn't break the car I'll leave it alone but thanks very much for your honest video , too many are giving bias videos , these cars are very dear and some people haven't got the money to waste.

Hey, so idk if you'll see this but, i tore mine apart and regreased it. Checked all the gears in my 10.3 trans none of them have a round hole square hole. They're all round hole round hole in the pin bore. They all seamed fine, put the 2 speed in "neutral, and the click wen away, looked at the t case and everything seemed fine i looked at the dig, the output that they machined to fit the square shaft through the dig was hitting on the dig plate. I shaved it with my dremel, then looked at the axles i had to put a traxxas 1985 shim on the pinion for the front axle and now its smooth as i would expect.

I had the cklicky gears in my 10.3 too. Flipping one gear was not all. There is another gear which connects the rear drive shaft. In this one fits a 10mm pin. Included is a 8mm pin which is shaking around. You can get a 10x2.5mm pin which is used in the capra (AXI236171). But then I found another noisy part. The dig plate and the output shaft for the rear axle. The shaft is squared and has rounded edges in the area of the dig plate. But it is to tight. So the shaft scrapres the dig plate all the time. Make one test. Remove only the housing of the dig unit. And leave the ball bearing and the dig plate in the housing. Remove the gear from the shaft. And now try to rotate the shaft in the housing without a clicking noise. It was simply not possible. So i took my file and removed the 4 edges of the dig plate which touched the shaft. Now it's much quieter. Give it a try. Hope that helps!

Perhaps one of the gears are contacting the inside of the transmission case slightly. The tolerances of the shafts might be loose enough to allow the gears under load to move to a side and make contact with the inside of the case. The sound to me sounds like the gear teeth are grinding on plastic. But not bad enough to show obvious damage

Hi It sounds like to me because those 2 small metal gears slip on the shafts and wiggle around with play is what's causing that clicking sound. They should have been tighter tolerances so they fit on the shafts tighter without play.

I don't have an SCX10, but those gears look mighty close to the gearbox case. I wonder if there is enough slop between the gear and shaft, or in the bearings, that a tooth gently rubs the case periodically. I would try shimming between the shaft and the ID of the gear with some tape.
