    I again learned something watching your videos. I was unaware of "fazing" when installing driveshafts. And your foam rubber cure for keeping the drive shaft centers 'centered' is simple genius.
    I will very soon apply both to my Capra's driveshafts.

      It's bad enough they don't specify the rounded pin seat in 6 gears in the manual but what's even worse is that some of the factory assembled demo models have the clicking gears installed wrong! This problem also happened to me on the transmission in the UMG10 kit I built, I had no idea then either!

      The gears are machined good they just don't specify in manual that there's 6 gears in total (2 in tranny, 1 in each portal housing) that need to sit on pin seat that is only rounded on one side of gear, when it appears as if both sides are same. Whats even worse that they don't say this in manual, they shipped some demo models with gears installed incorrectly! Plus SCX10II UMG10 kit tranny had similar issue, AXIAL get ur shite together! Haha

  • @Sweet_Dude_Shibby
    @Sweet_Dude_Shibby 4 года назад +1

    There's 7 gears that sit on pins through shafts on the SCX10III, 1 is on the dig gear & can only go on one way, so there's 6 gears in total that can be installed incorrectly if ur not aware of the rounded pin seat that is only on one side of those 6 gears because it appears at 1st glance both sides are the same.
    There's 2 gears in the transmission & 1 gear in each portal housing, that's 6 gears in total that can be installed the wrong way.
    Plus there is 2 5x10x4mm bearings that can fit in any of the 5x11x4mm spots, so be careful not to use the 5x10x4mm bearings until step C-3 in manual cuz they'll fit in steps C-1 or C-2 that require 5x11x4mm bearings. I put a 5x10x4mm bearing in wrong at step C-1 in manual & when I noticed the slop I had to remove one of the E-clips & it went FLYING luckily it hit the wall & landed right in front of me! Lol damn those E-clips!

    I took mine apart to recheck but this time I left power to it and checked each section as I took it apart.
    Dig out, still clicked. 2 speed out, still clicked.
    Click was coming from pinion/spur gear. Tried sliding pinion gear out some then in closer, then just like that it was gone!

    Seems the pinion gear needs to be exactly aligned.

    Another thought that might help. I have watched several videos of the SCX10 III and not all of them click. There is always comments to this fact in those videos and the answer is consistent. I did nothing special, it just does not click. That got me to thinking of all my past builds and the issues I have had. Have you considered purchasing a whole new transmission case. Just all the plastic parts? Many times my issues have come down to improperly molded parts and your click sound very much like metal hitting plastic. Even a warped shaft could be the issue. The plastic fits for the fact that some click and some don't. Just an idea to consider.

  • @jonthomas8487

    The main issue with these epoxy products is heat. Example of this is if you use it for magnetic body mounts and there’s any residue on the magnet it’ll reconstitute into liquid with friction heat. I hope it doesn’t happen in your drivetrain. I know that for Tamiya differentials folks put liquid nails in where the bevel gears are to make a slipper clutch of sorts so you may be ok

My peeve right now is the ridiculous mounting system, Half a brain could have come up with a better one, self centering and much easier to do. The fact that you have to order separate parts to get proper gearing in the transmission, twar transmission down over and over again, the poor tolerances, and lack of performance improvement over the 10ii. Axial needs to step up and address this not consumer trying to figure out how to fix it.

      I get that it's disappointing but shit does happen.
      Not sure I get what you mean by lack of performance compared to scx10ii though?
      The Scx10ii is a bare bones straight axle.. this new release is so different. In every way.

    • @northsandiegorc4248
      @northsandiegorc4248 4 года назад

      Mick D if you have a great platform (like the 10ii) why would you try and change everything up with a overly complicated setup? Did it need the adjustable frame? No, as you still need different links to change wheel base. Did they improve shocks? No, our demo model had leaky shocks after 2 hours of use, did it need a two speed that has a negligible difference? No. Axial focused on the premium TRX4 fan base as it’s main target. We tested with a bone stock 2017 crc jeep scx10ii, and the 10iii, the 10iii simply could not perform as well through obstacles as the body was too heavy, the motor while being moved forward sits too high in the chassis. Tires were not impressive either which is fine as most kit/RTR tires are not but this tires were marketed as being a much better Improvement. Even our early access demo has a very bad click noise that happens heavy under load and light when not under load. Let’s hope there is a simplified version coming soon...

      @@northsandiegorc4248 they haven't got rid of the 10.2 yet and not sure this release is it's replacement, I'm sure axial have released this truck with the idea that this truck is what Joe public wants.. ie portals, 2 speed, awesome scale body, fenders and interior, plus a bonus motor cover and dig and personally I think it's a winner.
      It hasn't got unlocking diffs so would only tip over in corners if it went any faster. I think the 2 speed will compliment a basic brushed motor for some wheel speed when needed.
      Why does it have to be compared to anything,?... can't it just be a truck that's a little different to what's on the market already?
      Maybe the chassis will make sense with further new releases.?
      We will see when straight Ar45's are released and what trucks and kits develop from there. Quite possibly a truck that hands the scx10ii and trx4 their arse's on a plate?
