One reason this sounds so good and even authentic is because Akira Yamaoka actually uses similar methods when creating his music, including the heavy use of sampling (something common among many video game artists of the 90s/early 00's). This isn't an argument against sampling, but more an argument for good sampling. Imagine a photo collage artist like Darrel Rees, taking pictures that already exist and giving them a new and interesting life using his own skill and imagination, and compare him with Richard Prince, who took screenshots of instagram posts and sold them as high art. Darrel Rees a good example of what's essentially a visual version of sampling, while Richard Prince is a very bad example. Yamaoka leans much more toward Darrel Rees, and that's IF you completely ignore the many sounds he's recorded himself.
I'm trash and feel like trash, but this video pulled me out of my carbon monoxide sleep long enough for me to continue with my existence on this mortal coil. Thank you.
I will probably sound like a smartass but I feel this video is a great tutorial. Only thing they don't mention here is the use of reverb and "smothening" of the samples, but that should be kind of easy to get a feel of what would sound right when putting these samples together. I think the best teacher for sample use in music really is experimentation too.
This type of music is imo the easiest to do. Because you do not have to rely on melodic sounds, just ambience, melancholic chords, clever sampling and laid back drums. Unless, you wanna do songs like Promise, Theme of Laura, Waiting For You, Cradle of Forest etc which rely on melodic sounds, and are completely different from this style of Akira's music.
It actually sounds like a song that would be at home in the first Silent Hill at least, something with the signature ambiance style of Yamaoka but incorporating the mandolin themes used in the intro. Nice retooling of other audio sources!
That sounds that starts at 3:28 was used in the song The Reverse Will. No idea where the sample comes from, but Susumu Yokota used it on a track called ''Aurora Mind'', under the alias of Prism. EDIT: Thanks for the replies, it's clear than even though Akira used samples, he still was able to make music that hit people's soul, similar in vain to Michael Cretu of Enigma.
This was awesome. Is there somewhere I can hear the full version or just the stand-alone? I truly want to learn how to do something like this...I dont even know where to begin. I don't even know what to call it. Is this composing? Sampling? Man...such a great sound
that sounds amazing. To be honest im watching this because I am a visual artist wanting to combine paintings or animations with silent hill type beats/music without copyright problems, and thought about learning to make my own. But Im not sure if I am able to do it like shown here. I have zero experience in making music. Can anyone with expertise in the area tell me how difficult it is and how long it would take to mimic that workflow that was presented here, to make decent sound ambience for own projects, with that silent hill vibe?
Im deeply fascinated by the Atmosphere you created with this Sound, would you give me permission to use this mp3 as Background music for an Animation, with giving credits to you and your channel?
Thanks. Relatively easy to imitate sound, but check Portishead, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, The Art of Noise... And some guitar sample CD from the 90's I forgot its name.
The video shows all the samples I used, just overlay them to get the same result. There are no particular effects other than classic filter/delay/reverb. I'll be more specific next time.
The dramatically slow rolling Xanax got me
The music you made for this joke sounds more Silent Hill than the soundtrack of Downpour.
Agreed !
Yes downpour even though I don’t think it’s that bad of a game has the worst Silent hill soundtrack In the entire series
Ouch. So true XD
RIP Daniel Licht
@@egosirius I didn't know he had died. Feel kinda bad for panning the soundtrack of DP now.
I watch this every two weeks. lol

Including the heavy use of pirated music. xD
This does NOT sound good, Yamaoka stuff does though.

All Human beings get influenced by each other over the generations. That's the law of nature
That sounds about right. Like something that would make it into SH 1 or 2.

This sample sound is called "Hereafter" and can be found in the Spectrasonics sample called "Bizarre Guitar"
Honestly the atmosphere is incredible.
The iDubbz cut in "I have crippling depression". That got me.
the mouse moving under the jazz drum loop got me good
This is probably one of the best edited videos i have ever seen, mad respect bruh. The music's awesome too
i've loved akira's music for many many years and recently ive been gettin into music production and this vid is pure gold, lold @ xanax
You *HAVE* to do Boards of Canada
Definitivo. Potrebbe benissimo essere una traccia presa dalle colonne sonore di Silent Hill.
In my restless dreams, I see Sixthclone.
This sounds like the theme if silent hills came out
Bro this is so amazing! Can you make more silent hill like music? And the editing is awesome!
Ayoo it's the guy from the video!

That mouse jumping over the fucking jazz drum loop got me hahahhaahha
Silent hill from Costco
Silent Hill main song "Hometown" is very similar to "Your Woman" by a group called White town, ironic. Just listen the sounds in the background.
Io ho un sogno. "Un' estate italiana" stile Sixthclone!
Anyone’s els like following the mouse arrow as it dances with sounds?. But good job. It’s pretty liget.
Sounds like Silent Hill: Origins (Zero) soundtrack 🧐
Gli A l u n n i D e l S o l e ? Ma che davero?
IT MUST BE VIRAL! WOW!

Awesome! Subscribed.
So basically he's a dj
Bring this down to around 90 to 100 bpm and add some hip hop drums over the other drums and you have yourself a banger as hip hop beat.
Great video! Any way you could share the project file to this? ^^
many long ago i composed a song and it sounds just like the intro of that mandolino siciliano "Amuri amuri" i feel so depressed u.u
Dat Rich Evans pic tho. 😂
This is actually a dope track, tbh.
Ahaha pure Rich Evans! A+++++++
