    Karolyn I know for sure I was one that requested this video and I super appreciate you filming this even though it caused you a little trouble… Super Annoying as you so often say 😂 I have learned sooooo much from you ! I so often copy and paste your videos in cake groups when someone requests help with a technique! I love how you keep it real and laugh at yourself … my daughter watched a few of your videos and said that if I lived near you , we’d probably be besties 😂

    My heavy name is in route to the venue. I made the name plate 3 days ago so that was before this video. Now I am super worried that it will slide. Gosh I hope not!!!! I am wearing one of your shirts at the moment and just ordered your new one. I can’t wait to get it!!! Love them! Thank you for all you do for us. I will definitely follow these guidelines for my next heavy name plate. I also just bought the strip cutter.

      I think you’ll be fine without the toothpicks. I only did it with this because someone asked me to show how I anchor heavier decorations. It really didn’t need it though.
      And thank you!! I just designed the other shirt the other day, I’m having so much fun doing that!

    I had this same thing happen to me as I was cutting out the grinch. It doesn’t take much tylose powder but it takes more than what I thought. AND I needed to let it sit out longer than I allowed (I got impatient.). Second try was better.

    Can't you use a round cookie cutter or a cup of the same size to cut the circle out?

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  2 года назад

      Yes you can! I mentioned that a few times, I just wanted to show what to do if you needed a really big circle or other shape that you don't have a cutter for.

    Ok... Another weird question...
    I have some cake dummy's, I am wanting to use as practice, and decorate for photos for my portfolio.
    Is it possible to cover the cake dummy in fondant and then pipe on it? I was thinking of covering the dummy in fondant, and make a "Shortening Frosting" basically white Buttercream Frosting but all shortening no butter. Then pipe like I would normally do, or Maybe do a stencil pattern. I know if I don't dye the frosting or fondant, the frosting won't stain the fondant. But wondering if I would be able to do the decorations, get pictures, the scrape it off gently, with like an offset spatula, if needed wipe fondant off with a paper towel... Then redecorating it?
    No one will be eating any of it. I am not even adding flavors to any of it. Just for practice and pictures.
    I have also noticed, working with fondant is like working with Play-Doh. Except easier. Fondant is softer and smoother. So thought about making some stuff like this name plate, 2D & 3D decorations, and let then set up with the Tyler's powder, so I can reuse them different cake dummy's, for more photo ops.
    So far all my cake orders are at least 8 weeks out, so thought I would use this time to practice with out wasting cake or a lot of money.

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  2 года назад +1

      Yes! You can definitely do that, I’ve covered a dummy with fondant once for a class I took. But doing that and then frosting / decorating is a great way to practice!
      And play doh or clay is good to practice making decorations too! ☺️

    Maybe Wilton changed their fondant recipe or I add too much tylose lol but my issue is usually that my fondant hardens too fast & I have to keep putting it in the microwave. Then again I might just be heavy-handed with the tylose.

    • @littlelady3895
      @littlelady3895 2 года назад

      I use to use the Wilton Fondant, and never had any luck with it. Always drying out, to hard to work with, and never liked the taste. Karolyn kept encouraging me to just give her recipe a try, and OMG so easy! It's way easier to work with, making it is also Supper easy! And added bonus!
      It tastes like marshmallow! Well a bit sweeter than marshmallow but tastes just like a marshmallow none the less. It's soft, a bit chewy, but just kinda melts in your mouth!
      And because it does store at room temperature in a air tight container, wrapped up in plastic wrap, for a couple weeks, you can make this way ahead of time if needed, and it make a bunch and keep it on hand. It's supper cheap as well.
      I think like the really small packs of fondant cost the same as a whole batch from scratch! (Or at least where I live anyways)

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  2 года назад +1

      Yeah you're probably using too much Tylose. Try easing back a little!

    Why not just cut the circle out and then use a pizza cutter around the circle

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Год назад +1

      Sometimes pizza cutters aren't easy to use when cutting a small circle. The blade of the cutter is really big and it can be hard to get the right curve. But if it works for you, do it! 😊
