Why we watch Louis Rossman: - His refreshing honesty about how Apple laptops (and occasionally other devices) often have easy fixes, but the consumer gets screwed over due to greed, laziness, and incompetence. - The way he uses this same "consumer advocate perspective" more generally to apply to right-to-repair, exploitation of small business, exorbitantly high-priced real estate, and so on. Very few people who watch him actually have the technical skills to repair their own devices or an interest in learning how to do so. We just all respect his skill and his integrity.
I watch him mainly for board repairs. But the main reason is still his voice and opinions, along with his way of speech. It's often such a calm rage together with technical jargon, it's almost therapeutic lol
I have seen hours and hours of his videos on repairs, I don't own an Apple device neither do repairs, but his personality and integrity sold me. He also said that his count in subscribers goes down when he post a board repair, now I subscribed to him for his board repair video. Great job man
You can see the the hole where the screw should've been, right below the track pad connector. I've opened A LOT of macbooks where there's a screw rattling around, they come loose after not being torqued properly.
This. Please try to give them the benefit of the doubt as they might honestly not have been responsible for this. If they say they had nothing to do with the screw, you still fixed the MacBook for them and you might be able to still help them.
Just opened the same model MacBook, screw loose rattling around, can't find where it should go but seems like a common problem the 'extra complimentary screw' on these macbooks
Louis, I've been subscribed to you for a long time but possibly first time I've commented. I gotta say I love when you do board repairs, really of any length. Not only do I love seeing you show off your technical skills (as someone who builds PCs and helps his friends replace screens and odds and ends on their older iPhones or RAM/HDD on their laptops what you do might as well be sorcery/alchemy) but you've got a great presenter voice that I love listening to while I'm at work. Heck I'd watch you replace a home button on an iPhone! The other topics you discuss like real estate or Right to Repair are icing on the cake as well. Keep it up brother!
Hi Louis. I've watched your videos for a year or so now. You encouraged me to start to repair electronics. I have started small with retro video game consoles (mostly Gameboy color) just wanted to say thanks for the confidence.
I just discover your channel and your effort for the right of reparation and i am obsessed with all your videos now, i am checking all the stuff you posted and i missed. Greetings from Italy Louis.
That SAM socket is one of most useful things in the design of the MacBook Pro. It can used to service a locked EFI password, read bios data and edit motherboard serial number.
Louis, I know how that screw got there, it fell off of his screw driver and couldn’t find it, then he tried bring it up and it died. Since he couldn’t find that screw, it ended up in your shop. Being a self servicer I had my macbook apart several times doing upgrades. Mine both work, but way past their prime an 2009 and a 2010. I was a Customer Engineer for IBM and the systems I worked on are now in museums 360/20 thru AS 400. More complicated than today’s pc’s and mac’s, 25 books of logic circuits and required to know how to do microcode and program the system using the dials on the computer in hexadecimal. I admire your ability to fix those mac’s and make the customers happy again.
Same problems occur with vehicle repairs. Once the obvious problem is sorted, we then have to ask why someone was there in the first place. Then the denials and stories come out. I was wondering, is there a screwhole missing a screw, or did someone add another screw from their stock? An extra screw says definitely someone has been there before, but a mislocated screw could have become loose and travelled until it fell in a hole. You plucked it out with tweezers, so that suggests that no-one tried to screw it in.
Literally the only reason I subscribed to your channel is because of board repair, not because something that I owned was broken it was because I wanted a more in depth look on how MacBooks work. Thank you Louis if it wasn’t for you I probably wouldn’t be interested in how something works without your videos.
I have only a fleeting interest in board repair. At 74, I have better things to do. I got my feet wet early though. At 14, I lusted after a Harmon Karden Stereo “integrated” amplifier kit (25 w/channel) that sat in a hifi store window. I had enough $ saved from my paper route that I bought it. I had no tools, very little knowledge and no one to learn from (no yooboob) so the store allowed me to work above the store after school. I was in heaven. The damn thing worked first time, but with a hum for which the manufacturer had to send a correction. After that I built many Heathkits for folks. I built their top o the line stereo, even their guitar amp and clock radio. Fun times. My career ended up in Meteorology at a desk! Great career though! Anyway, I'm here to get a glimpse of a New York minute, and to learn and support RtRepair. I just watched a dude take down the appliance manufacturers for their vulnerable electronics. You're lucky ro get a few years out of them before you have to replace a control unit…last time, our dishwasher unit failed..$400. Good luck..you're doing great.
Louis, you really should provide voiceover with that hoity toity voice omg. That was impressive! I learn more about theory with these videos more than actual repair since I won't do Macbooks, but this RUclips channel is very close to getting me to learn electrical engineering.

I have no real interest in board repair, but I don't understand why people would unsubcribe when they see it. I wasn't subscribed, but I did just now to help reduce the net negative.
I love how Louis goes on and on about how its a keen eye that can diagnose a board problem, when he himself didn't notice that the screw either shook loose from the hole below the trackpad connector or the customer failed to put it back in that hole when re-assembling it.
I watch you because of board repair But i also watch you because of your takes on R2R and real estate. Just HOW could board repair videos be hurting your channel so much!? It's fun to watch and I love it! In fact, board repair is a nice side to you ripping on Apple's anti-repair stance.
Louis, if you want to increase viewership on repair VDO, maybe you can try Top 10 or Top 5 VDO format. For example, Top 10 Worst Repair in your repairman life. Each include a link, or a card, or a short clip from the repair VDO, and explain why it was so bad and how it all end. It has always been a great conversation topic for me. Very odd, it looks as if it was one of the pentalobe screws too? Most users don't have those driver bits unless they're already the sort of individual who wants to open a more recent MacBook. Maybe I am just weird, but my experience is that very few individuals are the sorts to take it upon themselves to do that unless they already have at least some idea of what they are doing (e.g. maybe they know they want to upgrade the SSD. There is not too much in those which is a simple user upgrade). My first guess wouldn't even be the end user, but maybe something happened at the factory depositing an errant screw in the chassis and it just got knocked into that position through some jostling? At least it seems as if it was a relatively simple fix!
The thing is, it was just loose in there, so it could have been a forgotten screw that just fell inside there.. it doesnt mean they put it there, so it wouldnt be surprising if they claimed they didnt try to put a screw in the connector. That being said, it does point to someone opening it in the first place.
Hey Louis. Off-topic question. Have you spoke some more with the Broker that helped you looking for a new location for your store? He that was honest and didn't try to bullshit you.

Well, SPI is not an Apple-specific term. Most Intel documentation for newer Intel CPUs who uses an EFI-based firmware calls the initial loader an SPI.
SPI stands for serial peripheral interface which is a communication protocol used to get data into and out of the flash chip. It does not say anything about what the chip actually does. I would describe it as a bootloader personally.

Why do the board repair videos from this real estate channel keep showing up in my sub box but no one else’s?
Its virtual real estate too
Board repair?
Real estate?
This is a cat video channel!
@@wesss9353 Mr Clinton passed the Real Estate board exam too.
@@Arachnoid_of_the_underverse congratulations for passing the real estate exam Mr Clinton!
Oreo is a great producer for the channel.
Blackberry I think is a school teacher, and astronaut
@@Arachnoid_of_the_underverse I ate a real estate board once, too, and passing it was painful. You only want to do that once...
Huh, and here I was expecting a long screw issue with that title.....
Then I was like wait...
Is that a screw in a connector?! XD
Is that a screw hole beneath the trackpad connector, or is that a filled hole with a snapped off screw head that floated to where you found it? My inquiring eyes want to know.
Thank you Louis.
Can I post something about how to fix a magtrometer?
How on earth does a screw get placed there?
U'd be a great detective Louis
You mentioning the loss of subscribers thing had me look, and saw i wasn't subscribed even though i was previously subscribed, perhaps YT dosen't like it when you fix a board.
SPI MOSI and SPI MISO are not bidirectional. Your schematic shows them as bidirectional.
Man I feel proud that I instantly saw the problem, the freakin screw haha
I am here for both board repair and real estate talk...
I want to open a business, but I'm worried about rent and bills. I feel intimidated by the idea of having to earn enough to pay them before I can think of paying myself. Is there any tips? I assume all rent and bills is tax deductible or am I wrong on that? Anything I'm missing that would help?
Great stuff here. Thanks Luis!

I cannot download os or boot it
It just restart all the time
Any suggestions??
Where is your current office?
That screw is tiny. Is it possible it got sucked up by the fan, from some surface it was sitting on, spat out, and then just somehow landed there? Also, those fans look pretty clogged up, maybe the owner went in there to clean them and F'd it up that way.
