1948 Caboose In Downtown Winter Garden | Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Roadside Attraction

In 1899 tracks were laid through the small farming community of Winter Garden Florida to aid in transportation for the booming citrus industry. The arrival of the train also brought with it more businesses and private homes, and within the short span of just four years the town grew to the point of being officially established. Today the old tracks have been torn up and turned into a trail, but one can still imagine the sight of steam engines rolling down the center of Plant Street amongst the daily commotion of downtown. The train depot still however stands, now housing the Winter Garden Heritage Museum, and outside you will find an impressively restored 1948 Chesapeake & Ohio Railway caboose that you can tour. When visiting the town of Winter Garden, there is a lot to see and do, but one should never miss the chance to climb into history and visit the old Chessie.
