There are outdoor thermometers, candy thermometers, meat thermometers, various kinds of thermometer to measure the temperature in/at various points on a person/animal (in the bad old days, it was best to avoid mixing up the rectal and oral thermometers), thermometers used in chemistry, etc. Also, a thermostat needs some form of thermometer involved.

I know this is an old post…but my mom (born in 1940 New Mexico/Oklahoma upbringing) told us that when she was a child, the dentist would give them globs of mercury to play with after their cleaning and check up. Of course, dentists had loads of mercury for making filling amalgam. My grandmother did not like this and took it away from my mom and her siblings when she could. Mom said it was fun to cover pennies in it to make them look like dimes…and when she grew up and became a neuropharmacologist (well, you know, when she took some chem class in undergrad, long before she accomplished her PhD,) she was equally horrified that she had been given globs of mercury to play with as a child.

Sadly (not really, it's death row, after all) most prisons now have roughly a $20 or less limit on last meals before executions, and some only have specific menu options to choose from. Personally, I've mostly decided I'd go for just peanut butter and crackers. I don't think this would be a great last meal, but it's extremely difficult to mess this one up. If you're about to be executed, do you really wanna take the chance they'll completely botch the meal and you're left with a horrible taste in your mouth, an upset stomach, AND are about to die? I'll take my chances with ultra-low expectations.

I know this is an old post…but my mom (born in 1940 New Mexico/Oklahoma upbringing) told us that when she was a child, the dentist would give them globs of mercury to play with after their cleaning and check up. Of course, dentists had loads of mercury for making filling amalgam. My grandmother did not like this and took it away from my mom and her siblings when she could. Mom said it was fun to cover pennies in it to make them look like dimes…and when she grew up and became a neuropharmacologist (well, you know, when she took some chem class in undergrad, long before she accomplished her PhD,) she was equally horrified that she had been given globs of mercury to play with as a child.

Sadly (not really, it's death row, after all) most prisons now have roughly a $20 or less limit on last meals before executions, and some only have specific menu options to choose from.
Personally, I've mostly decided I'd go for just peanut butter and crackers. I don't think this would be a great last meal, but it's extremely difficult to mess this one up. If you're about to be executed, do you really wanna take the chance they'll completely botch the meal and you're left with a horrible taste in your mouth, an upset stomach, AND are about to die? I'll take my chances with ultra-low expectations.
I'd want bacon dipped in sour cream mixed with onion soup dip and Clamato juice. The mess when my bowels release will gross out everyone
