Thank you for watching and your comment. If you watch my videos on the 878, you will see a common theme. Do everything you can on the radio, and use your codeplug only when necessary. Digital Monitor (aka promiscuous mode) opens up the ability to receive ANY talkgroup on just 1 memory channel for your hotspot or DMR repeater. Adding talk groups to the talkgroup list is relatively easy. Unlocking the manual dial feature gives you transmit access on ANY random talkgroup. Bottom line is you only need 1 memory channel for each hotspot and each DMR repeater. Any 1 channel can have unlimited talkgroups whether they are in your talkgroup or not. It sure cuts down on redundant codeplugging. This way I update my codeplug by writing any changes made in the radio to the codeplug, rather than writing codeplugs and writing to the radio.
Thanks, Mike! The 878 makes DMR a breeze! With Promiscuous Mode (aka Digital Monitor), manual dial unlocked by the software setting, the star key capture feature, and the really cool Openspot 2 tools page for quick connect, you can really surf for DMR live action! Brandmeister last heard is my guide for live action. Also TGIF Network has a cool last heard dashboard as well!
Welcome Scott!. This capture the talkgroup feature comes in handy when a random static talkgroup comes unexpectedly out of your hotspot. Capturing the talkgroup allows you to quick key into the newly heard group dynamically!
They are quite different. The ability to key up a dynamic talkgroup from the dashboard does not exist on Skybridge or any other Pi-star based hotspot. Only the Openspots have that feature. To key up a talkgroup with a Pi-star you must key it up in the radio. The Openspot platform lets you keyup from the radio, or from the hotspot dashboard.
Totally new to DMR and saw your video and hope you can help as I am totally frustrated..How do you Disconnect from a talk group?? I just can't make it there on my Anytone 868 plus K1YOU
To disconnect from a talkgroup, you simply quick key and release a group call to 4000. You should hear the Brandmeister server announce through your radio "disconnected".
During double monitor mode, if I press the star * key the display says "Mon Reply Set Success". But then if I ptt... the radio tranmits to the group the original channel was set to (not the captured group number).
@@MikeMercuryOnCF here is my video of that procedure. It should allow manual dialing and capturing the last heard talkgroup for infinite push to talk in the manually dialed or captured talkgroup. ruclips.net/video/EduNMpChd7w/видео.html
All the software I’ve seen for this radio is windows! Is there any software for this radio that’s Lenix out there? The person who is helping me program the radio is a Linux user so I’m just asking! Any ideas I’m blinded really need help!
Only if you have turned on digital monitor mode AND turned on the manual dial feature. If you are unfamiliar I have separate videos on how to activate those features. Together, they automatically include this capture the talkgroup feature. This entire setup is perfect for having many static talkgroups set up and quickly responding to the last static group you just heard.
Great video, the only issue for me is Digi moni only works once, If I key up the 2nd time it goes back to whatever TG I had set in the radio, how do I prevent this ? Also when I turn of the monitor function it defaults back to the TG I had set in the radio, it would be good if I turn off the monitor function it would keep the current active TG.
It is not the digital monitor function that is getting you into difficulty. You have to unlock the manual dial feature in the radio that you have to modify in the radio with the software. I will send the video to you below. It will allow you to repeatedly key in the "captured" or a manually dialed talkgroup as often as you like!
@@k9wlwradio309 Amazing, thanks a lot! :-) Another question, when in monitor mode the talk group name does not display, only the number ? is there any way to change this so it shows the name ?
@@o00scorpion00o it won't show on the screen when you are receiving the signal. If you add the talkgroup to the talkgroup list in the radio, it will show the talkgroup name when the radio flashes the last heard info.

That is because you "long pressed" the star key. To unlock the lock quick presz the green menu button and quick press the * key. To "capture the talk group" just quick press the star key.
