I think catching those Gatka movements is the trickiest thing you've spotted in this video haha Very interesting martial art. And in terms of Wonder Woman's gauntlets being based on forearm blocking, I think the Southern Chinese Martial Art called Hung Ga actually trains its practitioners to use actual leather braces which are essentially gauntlets. Though I'm not sure to what extent they're used in combat and if they're only utilized in training.

You can also lump the gauntlets with Jow Gar as well. The bracelets could be seen as a modified version of the Double Monkey Shields.

I like when superheroes use different fighting styles such as HEMA, since they can get repetitive otherwise.
Remember they are all being choreographed by the same group of stunt coordinators, so the repeating martial arts is inevitable unfortunately.
i think it's important to choreograph fights differently as well. and fighters don't necessarily have to fight the same just because they have the same fighting styles.
arrow's green arrow and the dceu's batman share a lot of the same fighting styles, but they fight a lot differently
batman is brutal and based more on mma while green arrow is simplistic and based more on wing chun
even their use of wing chun isn't choreographed or used the same in their respective mediums.
arrow has this problem though because most fighters have one martial art they share and too many of them are trained by the league, so almost every major fighter has ninjutsu in their fighting stle
@@sakonan4883 Even so, there are a few martial arts that i think can't be helped to be a style known to everyone. Take, Boxing. Anyone can fight using Boxing whether they have training for it or not because it is a very instictual kind of fighting style that people can picked up naturally. Heck, even amateur fighters always take the boxing stance in a street fight.

+SuperSaiyanBlack Rose I did research on it and she didn't really demonstrate anything remotely related to it. That was very much a wrestling sport, and she hasn't really shown much skill in groundfighting.
Godzillarex there was a story arc where she lost her powers and became human. During this period she was trained by the martial arts master I-Ching. Supposedly her martial arts training as a human made up for the loss of her powers. Can you imagine the next arc where she regains her powers, immortality AND retains her martial arts training? She would definitely be a complete nightmare on any battlefield.
I think traditionally she is just assumed to know the Ancient Greek warrior techniques of the amazons and gods. But I do appreciate the detailed technique break downs in here as a life long martial arts practitioner and nerd myself
Pankration is hand to hand combat style with Wrestling being it's continuation. Sure you might find couple of grapples there, or very odd one throw, but main point is to make your opponents lose stability, so you can throw them out of the circle. Also if we are talking Wonder Woman, she is not ancient Greece. At latest she is Mycenaean at earliest. And having couple thousand years to figure fighting style you can practically invent anything.

I saw it just after catching up on this video. You mentioned something I decided to look into a bit. You said that Batman's fight moves, if compiled, would fit about 15-20 seconds of action. That's... actually more than he got in the movie. In fact, every single fight scene he was in was showcased IN FULL in the trailers. Now, I loved the movie to tiny bits (favorite DCEU movie and all), but that's just an injustice.
Speaking of injustices, there were rumors of a major Deathstroke fight scene in which he frees Lex Luthor from prison. Unfortunately that was either cut by the studio or exaggerated by someone who saw the post-credit scene and wanted to embellish the truth. I figure that, if that was in the movie, it'd be a scene to rival the warehouse scene from BvS. Then again, maybe they're saving it for the Deathstroke film directed by Gareth Evans.

My favorites fight styles scenes of Wonder Woman is final battle when she take down Ares And in BVS was she Fly to Doomsday , And Justice League is final battle when she knock down SteepenWolf . But like what I say DC on Actions is a style and true Soldiers and Marvel Heroes is all boxers in my thoughts and opinion .

Don't you think Wonder Woman utilizes Pankratian in her armed style?
Pankratian as you likely know, is the modern adaption of the Greco-Roman combat techniques used by hoplites and the like, which were far more direct, to the point and defensive than most other European arts of combat.
The techniques would also be brutal in the sense that every attacking maneuver was intended as a death blow, much like Iaido, since the Pankratian and very much the universal Greek mindset was geared toward absolute victory and complete unwillingness to run or back down until death.
Thanks! I did the research and that is a very grappling based martial art. Since she doesn't real wrestle, I didn't think it matched well with this particular version of Wonder Woman.
@@Godzillarex you're right. Hand to hand it is very grapple based, but the style is actually more weapons based. The grappling is purely for the situation when they are disarmed. Only the unarmed portion of it is still used in practice and some sports today since we can't really carry weapons around anymore...

I like your concept but the only hero apart from the punisher in the marvel netflix era is daredevil since we know all Iron fist has learnt is multiple forms of Kung fu. A martial art that follows the same concepts of quickness, speed, transferring energy in different ways..... thats it..... we are already informed by this and it is obvious

Great video as always. I noticed you made a longer and clearer introduction for those new to your channel. Your research was more accurate than usual, being able to give a corresponding to even the lasso, the acrobatics, ecc, i mustv congratulate, even though adding "sprinting" might be exaggerated. This being said, you're a little biased toward Tae Kwon Do, probably due to your training, if i recall correctly. The punching and blocking are traditionally and originally Karate, and even if you mention it briefly, you make it seem more from Tae Kwon Do. The reason being TKD has been heavily influenced from Karate, as Korea has been occupied for half a century; i dunno what the old, traditional korean Taekkyon had as a means of punching and blocking. Still, those blocks are recognised as "karate blocks" even by non practitioners
Thanks! See my other videos, I heavily mention Karate and discuss its techniques in detail. I felt that Wonder Woman's hand techniques did not go in depth enough to warrant giving her a whole other martial art because of them. Hence the disclaimer in the beginning of the video. I know Taekwondo came from Karate, but Taekwondo also inherited several of it's hand techniques.
Yes, exactly what i meant. Also, i got that the disclaimer was for that kind of case. I felt writing it, because i noticed this type of overlap tends to happen quite often, in the videos, due to the shared origin of the two arts. But I didn't meant to be critical, just accurate. I agree, too, that adding another art in this case wouldn't have been decisive

Um a lot of her fighting style could be covered by pankration Martial Art of Classical Greece. This was a martial that is a blend of Hellenic wrestling, boxing, strangulation, kicking and striking techniques, as well as joint locks.
+Dee Broschart Mostly wrestling, which Diana exhibits no skill in. And listen to the intro, it describes my process of martial arts selection.
If you look at Greek art (pottery and reliefs) you can see the kicks she is showing. Pankration practitioners were big into all styles striking. The greco style wrestling is an insanely watered down style that removed what was considered the "most dangerous" aspects of pakration. Here is a very good article I think you will enjoy. Thanks! Pankration is awesome, but like I say in the beginning of the video, I'd rather give the combatant a martial art that focuses on said technique than a general one. For example I gave her Taekwondo because it covers plenty of ground when it comes to kicking, than just generically lumping her techniques with Pankration and showing some pottery pictures.

Have you consider that she is greek and yes you can't find any ancient fighting style related to sheild and sword. Since she is greek, i conclude that she use Spartan kind of combat technique with sword and sheild. Pairing & Counter, Bashing and slamming the shield to the opponent

Sprinting...that's a new one. As for discus throw, while captain america throws his shield way more often than wonder woman, her super strength makes the shield throw deadlier.
Her kicking also looks lot like savate? Looks like it too. Not to mention old school pugilism is quite different from moder style of boxing in strining.

Sweep kicks aimed at the ground is not part of Tae Kwon Do, one of my mentors once scolded and punished me severely for using said kick. But Sweep kicks aimed at the head: the Turning Long-Distance or Hook Kick, its Jumping, and Asian variants are a part of Tae Kwon Do
