Without one the greatest vocalist ever..and her beauty is amazing. I am so glad to have seen this great live performance. Thank you so much for sharing.
In my ear she had a timbre similar to that of Sarah Vaughan, and, like her, she was one of the great female voices of jazz although she did not reach the heights of success and popularity of The Divine...
I can’t say that I hear much similarity to Sarah Vaughan. Gloria Lynne’s gospel background was more present in her vocal presentation than what one hears in Sarah, although Sarah did get her start singing in the Baptist church. What I have long felt however is that Gloria Lynne, who had a marvelous voice with a wide range and great control, was never paired with the right musical arranger. Unfortunately, none of her recordings made much of an impact on the charts aside from “I Wish You Love”. When one listens to her albums however, one can hear a magnificent singer searching for the right material, or at the very least, the right arrangement. Ultimately, I think she was a fine singer who unfortunately never got her big break.
@@direfranchement That's right... Sometimes the luck factor influences too much, and the people you surround yourself with are decisive... Thank you very much for your comment.
My parents loved Gloria Lynne, and by extension so do I. For a large part of my childhood my father would listen to her sing "It's Just A Matter of Time" every day. An amazing singer with a very distinctive, soul-tinged style. One of my all-time favorites.
gloria took Herbie Hancock's instrumental Watermelon Mann , added lyrics , and made a GREAT version in the mid 60's . She even get writing credits on the vocal version. Check it out sometime., it's brilliant
I have only her LP "Lonely and sentimental" with standarts.. Her "Watermelon Man" version is cool and shows the range of her voice. Thank you, for your advice🙏😊.
Oh yes, Gloria Lynne on Ed Sullivan...great song and fantastic voice. Thank you for uploading and sharing!!
Wow! What a pretty woman & such an underrated singer.

And her "Soul Serenade" from that same album is the equal of Aretha Franklin's.
@@GarthAstrologyas good or even better. She had a powerful and very soulful voice i found that album for a buck at a thrift shop about 20 years ago.
@@GarthAstrology I wish you love was also great
@@jimmiesmith5811 That's from another beautiful LP: Gloria, Marty & Strings. The Marty is Marty Paich, arranger.
