The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This episode was largely devoted to the talents of Sammy Davis Jr. and Ella Fitzgerald. After performing several solos, the legends got to sing this legendary duet. A famous moment on the Ed Sullivan show! Thank you for this video!
Man I need that full episode
Wow! Talk about 2 of the greats! Sammy & Ella. 😳
Ed singing! 😄 That was cute! I've loved Sammy since I was little, and Ella's is a gift from the heavens! Great duet! 😊💜
Indeed! I didn't expect Ed to sing as well.
@@lonestarfriendThey clearly inspired him with that wonderful performance
Excellent visual quality and clarity on the image. Thank you for the upload and it's appreciated having these wonderful pieces watchable in a higher resolution. And many thanks for the wonderful showcase of the greatest talents to grace the stage from the 20th century.
Legendary!! That is what both Sammy Davis, Jr and Ella Fitzgerald was and always will be!!
Echoed sentiment
Ella Fitzgerald is still one of my all-time faves! Her voice is so rich, full, and glorious!
Great performance Ella and Sammy together…thanks for sharing…at least the audience let you hear them perform unlike the following week…😂!
Have a great day!
Two of the best at what they did. 🙂
Marvelous! Wonderful!!
I've watched this performance on RUclips so many times. It's one of my all-time favorite videos. 💜💜💜 And now that you've posted it, I'll watch it several more times! 😊
S’wonderful and s’marvelous indeed! Love those two legends and a little Ed towards the end. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
It brought joyful tears to my eyes to watch how much Ella Fitzgerald was enjoying herself. There was so much heart and delight in this performance. For me, it’s a blessing to behold -- one of those performances along with Sammy Davis, Jr's performance of Mr Bojangles -- that is seared in my soul.
So awesome. Singers in that era had so much talent & creativity.
One week later was The Beatles first Ed Sullivan appearance. 2/9/64
I'm not a big fan of scattin, but this entire clip was just magical... including Ed singing!
I love scattin! This song is one of the best! I wish more folks would bring it back.
Little jazz- Roy Eldridge on trumpet!! Brilliant clip
Ella had a beautiful voice....decades long gone....
200% on Perfection "It's WONDERFUL and it is still MARVELOUS"👌👍✌️
Thanks for this absolutely GREAT Upload!
I remember this, she was one of the best. She struggled with her weight for some reason. Sammy was such a cool guy he could do anything! Class acts I miss them 🥁
The First Lady of Jazz and Mr. Cool Cat. Over the years we have enjoyed may great singers and songstress, Eli immho, is one of the few who could do it all: sing, sang, story telling, phrasing, scat, and blow!
She is one maybe 2 or 3 that I would say could be the "GOAT". She is the first "Diva"!
This performance was so wonderful .
One of the best performances on the Ed Sullivan show
What a treat to hear these two legends.
Two of the greatest performers/voices ever! What a gift!🥰
Absolute perfection ❤!
Wonderful artists. What a show. This was fantastic. The next show, Ed introduced America to The Beatles.
The love and admiration in his face when watching her sing was priceless!
I love it. This is wonderful. Now that's music!

Ella Fitzgerald, probably the best singer of all time along with the great Sammy Davis, were both brilliant musicians, they could make any song swing, they could make a duck swing and quake at the same time by just listen to those 2 great people sing
I love both more and more each day. They're wonderful
👍legends
A week later this show would change America forever.
Soooooo great to see these marvelous people together
They were soo sweet.
高校生の頃にテレビでみたこの映像に一瞬にして心を奪われました。
今みても褪せることなく私に感動を与えてくれます。エドサリバン
エラ、サミーデイビスJr.にとびきりの感謝を!
2 GREAT ENTERTAINERS THEY DONT MAKE EM LIKE THIS ANYMORE❤
Grandioso esto demuestra qué el talento y el arte no tienen idioma, nacionalidad, ni raza. Grandes cantantes.
That's what I call talent....
Sammy had the same look watching ella sing at his 60th celebration.he is mesmerized by her voice.
So many good stars...
The Good Old Days I Was 3 Years Old When I First Seen This Show On CBS

Fantastic!
Simply perfection!
Speaking in the tongues of "JAZ'ER'IOUS",😉😁👏👏👏💐👍🌷👋✝️☝️
What a marvellous toe tapping body swinging rendition. Love them lots.❤❤❤
A delight!! You have to be very brave to dare to challenge the great queen of scat... but I think that our daring little great Sammy comes out alive from the attempt... This performance spreads good vibes!
agreed. Sammy gave 'crooners' a bad name! (and didn't return until the 90s).
👍
It's marvelous Ella Fitzgerald.
Roy Eldridge (tp)
Tommy Flanagan (p)
Bill Yancey (b)
Gus Johnson (ds)
Don’t leave out the Great George Gershwin! Makes me proud to be an American!!! (PS the glamorous/ amorphous rhyme knocks me out!! Ira?)
✨🌟🥇👑🏆👑🥇🌟✨It’s Wonderful it’s Marvelous that Ella Fitzgerald and Sammy Davis Jr are sing 🎵 🎤🎶🎹together like two cool cats on a hot tin roof 🤩Yeh that’s Jazz Man ✨🌟💖👍
Fantastisk and wonderful 😊❤
"Maravillosos recuerdos que siempre estarán presentes....Gracias y Saludos
Before my time but fantastic
That was a great duet! Does anyone know whether that's Tommy Flanagan on the piano. He's my favorite jazz pianist!
Real talent unlike some of the jokes of the current day.
I'm so glad Marilyn Monroe helped Ella Fitzgerald get her start in the big-time clubs. Imagine being able to go to those clubs in those days. I hope Ella got to really show her appreciation to Marilyn before she passed away.
The Sunday before The Beatles appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
The following week, the Beatles appeared.
What….wait…..! He called her Ms. First Lady.
‘’Mr. Sammy Davis”
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
Not treating another Professional Singer in Public Causal that’s Pure, Professionalism even at their age’s WOW!👏🏾❤️💪🏾😎💯!
Even better both dressed Neck to Ankle
That’s Easy to noticed they strictly have *Voice’s ,& Talent’s, on * Displaying Decency
Should have never Been Compromised!!!
I believe that was Count Basie on the piano
I'm afraid not, he was Tommy Flanagan...
Amazing how a short scrawny funny-looking guy like Sammy Davis made it big time. Good for him! He's a ball of energy.
Undeniable talent and passion for what he loved would be part of the reason. Pound for pound that man was one of the most talented performers to ever plant his feet on a stage.
I`m speechsless.
Just a week later, a minor British group, named after insects, would appear on this very same show, on that very same stage!
Sullivan was the most "unracist" person on TV at the time.
He always had Black (African American) acts on his show despite the fact that he was told there would be problems with broadcasters in the South..
He and Dick Clark...Wonderful Broadcasters !!
You had to really know your stuff to do that
