The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

It's never gonna get better than this. The Platters were so great and they became one of my all-time favorites. I can listen to them all day and still want to hear more. Tony Williams, thank you for such wonderful memories!

Thank you so much for this great performance of a timeless love song! The Platters are my favorite vocal group and, although they made countless beautiful recordings, this might be my favorite! Tony Williams is on lead; who had one of the greatest voices in music, and the other members are David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor. Written by Buck Ram and Mickey Addy, "Remember When" charted at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 25 on the UK Singles chart around the time of this performance. This was the last of 6 appearances by the Platters on the Sullivan show, and the only one to be made on videotape instead of kinescope, as the format had only switched over to the former at the start of July.
Aww, that was very sweet and romantic! I got into The Platters way late...the '80s as a teen interested in old music, the music of my parents' youth. I love them. Great performance! 💜

I think this is the clearest I've ever seen a live performance of the Platters. They look and sound amazing. That lead singer was nothing to mess with. Definitely one of the top voices of this era!!! Keep it coming Ed Sullivan Show. If you have this Im sure you have at least one performance of one of their big hits.
Tony Williams and the Platters were a step above almost every group of their day...with a few exceptions like the Drifters and the Skyliners....
and the Flamingos and the Cleftones and about hundred other vocal group harmony outfits.

So grand to see and hear the "original group".
Always get a kick out of these transitional years. Seeing how CBS switched visual formats as they upgraded from kinescope to videotape. Shame AMPEX got the ball rolling around 1956. Could you imagine seeing a younger Ed Sullivan in his TOAST OF THE TOWN days captured on videotape? For anyone knowledgeable about this... was 1959 the first year the Sullivan show began shooting on Black and White videotape?

What a great group and great song. This song should have been a huge hit, but both of the Platters' recordings are a little off the mark -- the first one from '57 is missing strings and the one from '59 is a little too soft and slow.
