Raw ground up beef is called Steak Tartar. It is usually served very different from Hackepeter, which as you correctly said was raw pork. Hackepeter is served mostly on a buttered roll with onion, salt pepper. Steak Tartar is served on a plate. Ground beef in the middle, usually with a raw egg jolk. Surrounded by mounts of diced gherkins, capers, diced onion/shallots, mustard, herbs, Worcester sauce, salt, pepper. You mix what you like and how much with the beef, and eat it on crusty bread. I think the origin I French, but I'm not 100% sure. Both are good, but do taste different.
When the meat is pork, then it's called "Mett" but if the meat is beef, than call we it "Tatar". Uselly, if we it at home, we mix a raw egg in the portion on the table. But you must eat it immediately, you cant't store it.
When Dan put the pickles on the bread, I immediately had a flashback to that poor excuse of a Mettbrötchen with those 2 tiny slices of pickle that you had in Berlin. Back then I said, I can imagine that pickles could taste good with Mett, and I think I was speaking of a portion size like this!
Iirc, it was introduced back then to kind of market the high meat quality. Imho pork works better, bc of the fat %. Unless you ground up expensive fatty beef cuts.
@@Fantasiekraft we have been told from german followers that the meat is strictly controlled just because it’s going to be eaten raw. In Sweden we don’t have that control because we never eat raw pork. But as we are saying in this video, we prefer pork 😄 it’s just a little more tastier 😋😋 Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this and for watching our video 🫶🙏
Mettbrötchen, different Kinds always delicious.
Yes we agree, we were so surprised that it was pork in Germany, here we have to eat it with beef because it’s not advisable to eat raw pork.
instead of using butter, you can use mustard. Thats tasty as well.
That sounds amazing, will definitely try that next time. Thanks for the advice 🫶 Mustard and pickled cucumber?

Wer sagt denn Hackepeter?
People in Germany 😄
Thats tartar, not Mett. Mett ist pork and it is not dangerous if you eat it fresh
In Sweden the authorities advises against raw pork so we had to make a mix of tartar and mettbrötchen 😄
You had to? Then why do we Germans eat a lot of Mettbrötchen and we all still live and don't geht ill? Can't be so Dangerous tthen
