  • Hey guys, it's David from MACkiteboarding. If you've mastered the back roll hand drag and want to add more style and flair, you're in the right place. Today, I'll guide you on how to incorporate a hat drag into this trick, and for an extra touch, we'll even show you how to enjoy a beer while finishing the maneuver.
First, ensure you're comfortable and confident with the back roll hand drag. The mechanics don't change much, so getting this part right is crucial. Approach with speed, pop off the edge, and bring the kite up to 12 o’clock as you initiate the back roll. Lean back into the water and drag your back hand.
To add a hat drag, start with a hat in your hand, preferably a MACkite hat available on our website. As you pop off the edge and begin the rotation, drag the hat through the water instead of your hand. Make sure to hold the hat tightly, as the water resistance will pull on it. As you come around and finish the loop, try to put the hat back on your head before landing. Alternatively, you can land first and then pop the hat back on for a stylish finish.
Once you're comfortable with the basic hat drag, you can try popping the hat off as you pop off the edge, dragging it through the water, and swinging it back onto your head during the rotation. This adds an extra challenge and a cool factor to the trick.
For an extra level of fun, you can incorporate a drink into the trick. Hold a beer or a water bottle in your hand, and follow the same steps as the hat drag. Pop off the edge, initiate the back roll, and drag the drink through the water. As you complete the loop and the rotation, take a sip. Make sure to move the drink away from your face as you spot your landing to avoid any mishaps.
Adding these elements to your back roll hand drag is a great way to show off your skills and have fun on the water. Whether it's dragging a hat or enjoying a drink, these variations add style and flair to your kiteboarding sessions. So, get out there and try it on your next session. See you on the water!
