  • Hello! In this video I show you my homebrew multiband vertical portable antenna :) Me and Paul OM0WT went to try it in the field how will this antenna perform. We were impressed! We had many QSO's and two special - India! This vertical worked also with 100W without any problem :) All european QSO's we was made with 20-50W max.
    I plan to improve more my design and then show it again.
    I hope you enjoy this video! 73 and please subscribe if you like ;)

    Very nice build, Paul. I built something very similar about three months ago.
    The technique of shorting out the unused part of the loading coil is a real "Q"- killer! You will probably get even better results if you attach the crocodile clip to the feedline inner conductor and tap UP the coil, leaving the unused part of the coil "floating" below the used section of the coil.

    • @larrybarnette4795
      @larrybarnette4795 2 года назад +1

      Yes, if we shorted turns on an ac power transformer, there would quickly be blown fuses or worse...certainly a lot of heat. Yet, I keep seeing this done with RF inductors and wonder why they just don't "select a tap", not short windings. I always leave the start end open, and select the proper tap.

    Looks similar to my antenna, which I call the WRC Clone. I have a video on my channel that shows my antenna. When I built mine, I had a 10 Meter Hamstick that I wasn't using, so I got some wire, PVC pipe, weed eater twine and connectors and started building. Since my original build I have changed a few things. My antenna doesn't use the clip like yours I have a collar I adjust up and down just like the WRC and I can turn from side to side to get the best SWR. I have since removed the Hamstick and went with a 102 inch telescopic whip. Great video! Juddie - WD8WV

    Excellent little vertical Paul!
    I just tried to make something very similar: For the 40 meter band, a 6 meter telescopic fiberglass fishing rod with a tapped loading coil at the bottom and 8 pcs 6 meter long radials - mounted on top of a sturdy video tripod. I probably got too few turns on my coil and need to extend it to get my antenna to cooperate a bit better since I only got some JS8 contacts in central Europe on 10 watts. 🙄
    Your surroundings are very similar to mine! ☺️

    I loved the video and antenna. The one thing I noticed about your setup is that you set the antenna high above the ground. Knowing what I know about ground planes, I wonder why more builders and manufacturers don't do the same thing. I'm sure part of your success was that you raised the antenna. Great job! I'll look at more of your videos.

    Clever design and great built. Congratulations. I wish had your skills (and toolshed probably) to build this. I don't, so I've bought the JPC-12 instead, which is close in design to this, but yours is better with the longer coil.
    Does the 2.7m tripod give a real advantage vs. radials on the ground? I had been told that radials like yours, going 45 degrees, not on the ground, had to be tuned to 1/4 wave.

    This is an interesting video. Did you have an auto tuner to adjust the see or just move the wire on the antenna to get the best SWR. Also would like to know what the SWR was. At no time did you say. Anyway a nice portable antenna. Looks like weight and might be able to do SOTA with it. Would like to know total weight of everything. 73 Clark KG7LOI.

    • @OM0ET
      @OM0ET  4 года назад +4

      Yes, sorry I totally forgott to show tuning and SWR in this video! :D The SWR from edge to edge of 20m band was 1,5 and in the middle was 1,1. Pretty good! The weight I don't know. I didn't weigh it because it's not yet finished antenna, but I guess it's completely without tripod about 1kg or less :) I design this antenna specially for SOTA to get max. frequency range, portability and quick setup on the place and still not too weight and small as possible. :) 73 and thanks for watching! Paul,
    Excellent portable antenna. How did it load on 75 Meters? What was the bandwith on 75 for each adjustment?
    I use a similiar antenna on my truck, but it only works from 40 meters on up to 6 meters.

      Hey Frank! I am still working on it. This day wasn't tune on 75m. Only 20m 😊 It's just a prototype or startpoint for my next vertical 😉👍73

    Nice video. I see you've used insulated (coated) wire for coil. With your coil assembly (soldering?), are you sure you are not getting any shorts between turns?

      @OM0ET  4 года назад

      Yes Pawel, I abraded gently only a small upper part of the each rounded wire of each turn in the coil. The isolation remained on the sides and bottom part of the wire, so the wire do not touch each other electrically :) Thanks for comment! 73
