It's worth remembering health care isn't 'free' in Europe, it's just paid for by taxes so it's not an optional bill. It's around $5,500 (US) in the UK per year. :) Of course many things are covered under this though so it's uncommon to spend extra for any required medical operations for example!

And if you really think about it a person get 18 years of free (without any tax) healthcare. And i bet the average American spends almost as much on healthcare.
