Kyle: it's not a perfect ending, but I tried my best
Me: *Crying while imaniging all of this playing out*
Seriously, congrats on making something so special, that crying part isn't an exaggeration, you managed to create something so beautiful, and that's something the original missed, the beauty of love, the few moments the finale was good were the beautiful ones, I really love how you kept the Sakura Tree ending, that's just, perfect, I don't know how to put it in words, really, THANK YOU

this is an ending that this show deserves it would be so nice if they could've done a directors cut where they fix the mistakes that they made in the last couple episodes, and how the heck did this only get around 300 views while the attack on titan one got so much more.

Dude, this was an excellent rewrite for the end of the series.
Even though I’m not a fan of killing off Zero Two earlier than in the original, I will admit it did play a significant role in elevating the story, and I really enjoyed seeing how you used her death to push the story forward and challenge the characters.
Listening to your version of the final story arc for Darling in the FranXX, then listening to “Darling” by Heiakim (as if it were the ending song) makes the story really feel complete.
You have my sincerest gratitude and respect.

Wow, this is incredible, I didn't think you could so satisfyingly put the themes of the story together in a way that made sense while still having the emotional drama of the scene to scene duologue and characterization of a real episode. Bravo!

Nice to see you kept the ending, i also like it.
I agree that the show has a lot of good things and that's why we care about it's original 5 last episodes. If it was a bad show we would just move away.
    Thanks, this is great!

considering the reason i love this show so much was hiro and 02s relationship development i was able to enjoy the ending for what it was but this is a really interesting idea.

This is such a great reimagining of Darling in the Franxx and I can't comprehend how this has so few views! I recently finished the series and had started thinking about ways the ending could have been reworked. Looking to see what others had come up with was how I found this video and wow this is so much bigger and better than anything I’d ever imagined. There's one thing though that feels like it misses the mark with this new ending, and I have an idea for a small change to the final fight that might help. I hope you don't take offense at me trying to re-imagine your re-imagining!
A couple others have commented about the lack of reunion between Hiro and Zero Two and as much as the changes to the story lead to an ending that feels way more complete and meaningful overall, I think we need to find a more substantial way to reunite Hiro and ZT. I'm particularly missing the scene in the final battle of e24 where Hiro has lost consciousness and is sinking and ZT manages to pull him back. That scene and ZTs monologue feels so essential to resolving the arc of these two characters and it seems too sad to lose it. For so many viewers the relationship between these two is at the core of their love for the show and I think there's potentially a better balance point that doesn’t just fall into pure fan-service but still gives a little more closure to their relationship.
Here is my suggestion: After her death in part two of your reimagining, Zero Two's soul is still in some way trapped/tied to Strelitzia Apus. There could be some hints for the viewer throughout part 3 leading up to the final battle but it remains completely unknown to the cast. When Hiro and Mitsuru first attempt to connect there is a moment of mental struggle for Hiro. In this moment he sees flashes of ZT, them together from the past, her in pain and struggling during their last battle, and scrambled moments that seem like her calling out for him. Hiro struggles with his desire to give in and go to Zero Two, to turn his back on the others and just be with her, but he stops himself. He has to accept that she’s gone, that these are just fragments in his memory, that he has a responsibility to save the others. As viewers, we watch this scene conflicted, knowing that Hiro is not just turning his back on the memory of ZT but that there is actually still some part of her left in SA and by making his choice, Hiro is giving up a real chance to be with her. As Hiro finally makes peace with the loss of ZT and turns his mind to connecting with Mitsuru we see an image of Zero Two falling into nothingness, in the same way we saw Hiro falling in the original scene of e24 - she wasn’t able to reach him, and she is fading back into the depths of SA.
The scene and story continues as you described with Hiro and Mitsuru connecting, and then the two of them rejoining the squad. We can have all of the same developments as Hiro comes to understand what he is fighting for, and what he must sacrifice in order to save the others. Hiro ejects Mitsuru, and alone he is able to fly SA through the Hringhornis laser and crash the battered SA into it. Their momentum carries them up and up, into the atmosphere together but they’re slowing and it doesn’t look like SA has enough power left to get them out of the atmosphere, far enough away to safely self-destruct without destroying the base. Just as SA and the Hringhorni begin to stall and fall back to Earth 9s join him and together they push the Hringhorni out into space.
SA and the 9s appear sure of victory, but as Hiro is about to self-destruct SA, VERM releases the last trick up their sleeve. The Hringhorni releases a targeted blast, shot directly at the cockpit of SA. Already pushed to his absolute limit piloting SA alone, the blast rocks Hiro, causing him to convulse and lose his connection to SA. SA powers down and as Hiro’s consciousness fades, the Hringhorni manages to free itself from SAs grasp and begins to mercilessly take down the 9s. The 9s are fighting valiantly but they are simply no match for the Hringhorni. We see Hiro in the dark cockpit of SA finally lose consciousness and things fade to black.
In the next shot we see Hiro falling into nothingness, just like in e24 and what we saw of ZT earlier. Hiro struggles, reaching up, trying to pull himself back to consciousness, to finish what he set out to do, yelling that he isn’t done, he has to save the others, it can’t end like this. No matter how he struggles he keeps sinking and eventually as he starts to give in to his fate his thoughts turn once again to ZT. “Is this what it felt like for you in the end?” he whispers as his eyes finally close and his body stills.
Perspective shifts and we see ZT floating in the nothingness where we left her earlier. She starts to hear Hiro’s voice, faint and muffled, the same lines we just heard him deliver. She stirs and then notices, in the distance, Hiro’s body slowly sinking. We realize that they have actually fallen into the same nothingness, their souls are both tied to SA. They aren’t gone yet but they are falling ever deeper. This scene could continue with something much like ZTs original monologue in the scene from e24 as she reaches out for Hiro. When they eventually touch, Hiro’s eyes open and ZT tells him that he hasn’t failed yet, that together they can finish what he set out to do. They embrace and start to rise, merging into one as Hiro’s body regains consciousness and control of SA.
Throughout these sequences we’ve watched cuts of the battle between the Hringhorni and the 9s as they try desperately to fight back against its overwhelming force. One by one though they have been cut down until eventually none are left. Just as the Hringhorni turns its attention back to earth and prepares to unleash its laser again, destroying everyone, we reach the climax of Hiro and ZTs scene. SA finally begins to power back up and at the last instant Hiro and ZT are able to crash into the Hringhorni causing its blast to miss earth. The Hringhorni tries to escape the grasp of SA but there is no chance. Their souls reunited and sure of what they must do, Hiro and ZT self destruct SA, destroying both SA and the Hringhorni.
From here we could end as you described, with the reunion of Mitsuru and Kokoro and then the epilogue.

A couple plot holes (? Still better than the original ofc):
    - the infrastructure required to build the klaxosaurs doesn't seem like something that the kids would be able to find laying around
-the whole horn thing- this and magma energy might cancel each other out

okay, what you created here was pretty amazing. I only have one thing that i just don't like, and that is how Hiro and Zerotwo aren't exactly together at the end. Yeah i realize her soul came back and reunited with Hiro, and that coppled with the reincarnation, is kinda objectively beautiful. However, i personally really desire an ending where they are actually together, kind of like what happened in the anime, but to have them both reunite with squad 13. It is probably really really really freakin' cheesy, but my favorite part of Darling in the FranXX is Hiro and Zerotwo's relation, along with their relation to the squad.
I guess i just really wanted a much more sweet than bitter ending, with a phat amount of cheese. I would honestly prefer the series to be like 50, or maybe even a few more episodes, with alot more slice of life episodes with Hiro, Zerotwo and the squad as a whole. Since that is what i by far what i most liked about the series.
I still really love it up 'till episode 19, and because of onimaru (another youtuber making some great explanations/justifications for the series) i actually kind of like the actual ending.
And what you have created here is also great, very great and i would have to overall say that it is better than what we got, except for my personal desire to have Hiro and Zerotwo to be together, really together to the very end.
All in all, i prolly just wanted the series to have a much cheesier ending, objectively it prolly wouldn't be better, but i don't care i want the heartwarming cheese.
I was left really depressed when the series was done, luckily i hadn't watched tonikawa yet, so i binged that and it kinda helped, but still a bit depressed and can't stop rewatching all the scenes that made me cry!!
But yeah, great job mah dude!

I like the majority of your idea, but I have the same problem I had with the original ending: it only addresses part of the show’s theme. It fails to address the bigger theme that defines the show: growing up and learning. The individuality your ending chooses focus on is only a part of the grand theme. The sexual nature of the show, the self centered, desperate love between Hito and Zero Two, and the emphasis on the squad’s relations with eachother are what defined the show for me, and I feel that neither the original or yours does a good job of ending on this scene.

imo the anime is first and foremost a lovestory while fighting against an oppresion enforced by papa and the others, i think that making the promises of zero two and hiro not happen is a bad ending to the anime and it should either have 2 different finale's the current one and have the one in the manga animated and have people accept their preffered option as the real one or a season 2 where, since they are reincarnated 1000 years after, zero two would not be unique anymore and the season would not have the success it deserves while on the other the love they would have would not be as deep of an entanglement as the one present in season 1, so thats why im saying IF there will ever be a season 2 they need 2 things: 1 they need to remember completly who they were from their past life and remember all the others and somehow bring them back into the show either by revealing they were cryogenated or have the immortality serum injected at some point after the anime(highly unlikely as the others and they themselves wanted normal lives after seeing what can go wrong) or make them somehow travel back in time after remembering everything and convincing their past selves to not go trough the gate at the end shattering it instead and preventing the virm coming back to earth for 10-20 years having a season 3 with their adult versions would nice too but it would also be nice to have an ending there by sealing the portal preventing virm from ever coming back to earth as they would create a seal upon the solar system by extracting the magmatic energy and using the giant spaceship Strelizia Apus to forge the seal thus completing zero two and making her return to her body , by then they discovered that the universe is not accepting both the reincarnated and current ones at the same time and after coming back to earth begin bonding with eachother becoming back into 2 people with the memories of both, retaining their klaxosapiens-human hybrid and the reincarnated versions, then being able to have kids together since they are no longer different like in zero two's book having kids becoming fully klaxosapien and them 2 being the only ones to ever be hybrids(or who knows) and making the story comeback full circle and ending with a proper goodbye. Of course this would need changes to the original but i dont think its too far fetched, like having the immortality serum needing to be reapplied to function would be a good idea granting them the opportunity to remain alive for longer if they ever wanted with the remains of the whatever serum is left in the current plantations. i think that having them live a happy ever after rather than failing their promise would be such a good ending instead of sacrificing themselves or having the promise cut short by ones death

What do you think about the manga's ending?

  • @chrisossu2070
    @chrisossu2070 3 года назад

So yeah, I'm super late, but as it turns out the manga adaptation actually kind of ended up incorporating a few of the changes you brought up here. The existence of VIRM is mostly excised with only an incredibly vague allusion at the very end that could be interpreted as similar to your idea, there is no giant climactic space battle, Dr. Franxx is motivated by atoning for what he put the children through, and Mitsuru and Hiro co-pilot a Franxx in the final battle.
Of course, it's still far less clean than your version. Papa's motivations are left completely nebulous by the end of the manga, him and the Council are killed rather quickly by the Klaxosaur Princess rather than Hiro or any of the other pilots, and the Klaxosapiens are still a separate alien race rather than formerly human children.
    Further spoilers:
Also Hiro and Zero-Two along with several of the Nines live through the events of the story. That might be contentious for some.
