    You two have the most delightful smiles!!!! it's nice to see a young couple taking their finances seriously. I really enjoy your videos 😍 started watching you when you only had about 1000 subs! Look at you now 🤩 My biggest budget category is food - I eat a lot because I do a lot of endurance cycling, hiking and also weights and ballet so I need to eat good food and lots of it. I cook at home and rarely eat at restaurants (maybe 2 or 3 times a year).

    Glad to see this as a fellow Canadian living in an expensive city (Vancouver - but its only gotten nuts in around the last 10 years). Funny that people think your food is hi/ low. I break down everything as well to the cent and would likely spend less if i split groceries and i'm at 4500 (375/ m) so far and def overspent IMO since i had too much waste. Moving car rentals to travel/ commute will probably make it clearer and if you're treating others to meals, i put that under "gifts". For health, i even put vitamins, advil etc under that and would put things like yoga wedges and snd foam rollers there too. Super interesting to see how others break things down, it makes everything more clear and easy to course correct. I really need to get on the investing part since i'm so used to being poor, having a steady income makes it super easy to save. Thanks for sharing!

    ❤Good work Dennis and Steph!
    My wife and I were able to pay the bills with my earnings and save her earnings. The growth of our savings fluctuated depending on what we were investing in (growing the family, improving the home, etc).
    Our budget isn't much different from yours with two kids added on (they fit in same car, eat less, live in same home, and have grandparents to babysit.)
    Home - 1600
    Groceries - 800
    Life/Health insurance - 400
    Travel - 400
    Transportation - 300
    Utilities - 150
    Communication - 100
    Eat out - 100
    Free spending - 100
    Miscellaneous - 100
    Rough total for basic needs: 4150/month and 49,800
    250/month towards future purchases
    250/month towards children's RESP.
    + 10%(+5% match) towards RRSP
    15% towards TFSA
    15% towards giving
    With any leftovers, we usually put more into TFSA or into paying off home.
    The minimum we can bring home and make our budget is 78,200.

    Loved this video. It’s great seeing you guys’ channel growing. I used to see your videos on Instagram and just saw this recommended on RUclips. I also track everything but not as meticulously as you guys haha! This is definitely inspiring for me to get even more detailed with tracking my income and expenses - especially given I’m also self employed like you guys - and sticking to my budget more.
    I also find it interesting that you guys spend less on a number of categories compared to 2023 - it was the same exact thing for me. I’m wondering if this was the case for others out there too. I think it goes to show that the economy has been really putting pressure on everyone like we hear about 😬

    For me in Toronto, the biggest hit is Rent - at $2600 a month for a 1+1 (700 sq ft. - inclusive all utilities) which is still insane. Might increase to $2665 but right now all comparable units in the city are the same price. So just gotta make cuts in other areas.

    • @utube4661
      @utube4661 Месяц назад

      Move to a basement apt in suburbs for half that

    • @stephandden
      @stephandden  Месяц назад

      Rent is definitely a big expense when you’re in downtown Toronto! You’re right, it’s often hard to move in the city without paying even more per month.

    • @jayeshiyer2347
      @jayeshiyer2347 Месяц назад +1

      @@utube4661 Yeah - then my commute increases as I need to be in office 3-4 days a week + the transport costs or to invest in a car which has its own costs. Not to mention, a basement apartment isn't the ideal one to be in with a child 🙂. The point was more about the fact that $2600 for a 1+1 is just insanity - it's not as if you're getting some decent house for that money but almost all of the alternatives are the same.

    • @pouya.yorksell
      @pouya.yorksell Месяц назад

      Rent is definitely out of hand. As a realtor, I can definitely see how these prices have affected people and their finances. I’m glad to see rent prices have softened compared to last year though.
      I assume you might have gotten your place this year or end of 2023. Mid 2023, that same 1+1 could have easily costed $2800!
      I think with the continued interest rate cuts, less population growth and immigration over the next few years, and more inventory hitting the market over the next couple of years as more pre-con projects finish, we’ll see a bit more relief on rent prices. Plus it’ll probably be a good time to buy too at that point. I do see rent prices increasing between 2028-2030 again as new/pre-construction sales and building decreased significantly this year (so we’ll see the effects by that time).

    I have been loving your content! I downloaded the budget tracking and expense spreadsheet, and my wife and I are going to go all in with tracking, saving, investing and hopefully saving in 2025! But one thing I wish is that the spreadsheet allowed for more integration between shared and individual expenses. My wife and I share a lot of our finances, and pay things like our mortgage, our utilities, most of our food, our streaming services and entertainment, etc. together, but then we also have individual spend items and categories. Your template is so close to being exactly what we need! But surely my wife and I are not the only ones who have shared, personal, and overlapping finances and wish to be able to efficiently track and budget accordingly. Any plans to add any of this type of functionality in 2025?

    I purchased a car this year, and also bought all tools and car parts to work on it myself. the costs were crazy (but still cheaper than paying a mechanic to do it here in Vancouver, where labour costs can be up to $200 an hour. I now have a big decision, do i sell and go back to public transport and car rental schemes, or continue next year now the biggest car ownership expenses have been paid for, this annual budget tracker will really help with this decision

    $2289 for 1 person eating out at restaurants? If this includes takeout and the $0 you spent on food delivery, I'd say that is awesome and reasonable based on your income. Eating out is social and probably made for some memorable experiences. That ends up costing less than $200/month. In 2024, I spent just over $375/month on that category and I want to reduce that down to $200/month in 2025

      Most comments we get are actually people wondering how we spend so little on groceries!
      How much do you spend per month? 😊

      @@stephandden My wife and I spent $375 per month total on all food spending in 2024. I love to cook so that helps!

      @@milhouse7145 huh, interesting that people think that's low..
      I just checked and we spend about $225 each / month, in Toronto.
      I do a lot of one store shopping but everything is price matched, so perhaps that helps.

    I spend about $1000 a month eating out, how are you only spending $2300 in a whole year?!

      I feel you - I spent over double that amount last year! Once I was aware of how much I spent, I purposefully cut back and was more intentional with my eating out expenses 😊
