Can you believe that the leading actress of this film (the one that played Viola) was 35 years old at that time? I mean, I thought she was in her early twenties! She looks so much younger than her real age in this film! Well, however, this is one of my favorites movies ever, I simply loved it! Everything! One of the best adaptations of one of the best comedies by Shakespeare.
After I rented this version I went around extremely happy for days and I had gentle peaceful dreams. Youth may not endure but art lasts longer than youth.......
I absolutely love this movie. And Imogen! I think is great the way she plays a boy who grows from the beggining -when she's playing the piano, still afraid and sad-, to the moment she visits Olivia-a casual young man, even a little naughty-. She really brought the character to life. Oh, by the way I love the music, it fits perfectly.
Toby Stephens is beautiful.....sometimes when you look at him he looks so much like his mother, then take another look and he's very much his father's son.
Where I to cast my lady I'd place her on a beach Shipwrecked in a foreign land forever out of reach I'd cast from her most inner self a brother most divine that she could best become him to probe his deepest mind So far away from comforts that she would then reflect the essence then of friendship and the fear of it's neglect She'd search a distant dukedom for love that she could find and play a kinder music there much sweeter than the wine My love is now a cast away Whoes song she's yet to sing The beating of her heartbeat there sees good in everything Around her rings a laughter for every tear she sheds My ladie's only human tho I mourned her when she fled
I was lucky enough to be in this film as an Extra or background Artist as we are sometimes known now. Iwas lucky enough to be next to these stars for nearly the entire shoot, it was a dream to make and a dream to watch when finally realeased...
lovely is the heart that came to serve what it could find all broken there like flotsam a bottle without wine and finding her perfection in fellowship dispair awakening affection once lost beyond repair a brothers love is fairer than anything on earth enshrined within his sister's heart there is no greater worth and so I did but conjure her to walk upon my beach longing just to see her love the thing that it would teach.
May I ask, to "PATRICIA89", what a 35 year old young woman is supposed to look like? A sucker for the commercial stuff we're bombarded with these days to hoodwink us into thinking we exactly know the age of women (and for women to therefore get insecure even at 29.) If you smoked and drunk, ate bad food, and lay in the sun all day however, you won't look a good civilised modern 35 at 35. (rarr, rarr, sorry for being so rude...) As for the film, it's topsxx
Old story. Gal needs to appear male. Dresses up like male. Gal as male, falls in love with a man. There is always another female, that falls for the female, as a male. She speeds the movie dodging female. Another part of the movie, dreaming or fantasizing about male. Gosh... I hope this makes sense. Old story line.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.... 🤣 I'd never heard of it till my son played one of Orsino's men in his high school play.... loved it, ground this movie, l9ved it again, MAJORLY fell for Orsino...

She graduated from RADA in the same year as Iain Glen and Jane Horrocks.
This is such a beautiful movie portrayed in a way that truly captures the hearts of all shakespeare fans. Beautifully done.
The best TWELTH NIGHT movie I have ever seen
After I saw this for the 1st time, I fell in love with Toby Stephens. I named my 2nd son after him!
After I rented this version I went around extremely happy for days and I had gentle peaceful dreams. Youth may not endure but art lasts longer than youth.......
I had the same experience. New favorite movie
this version of viola is actually more convincing compared to other versions I've seen so far.
This is my favorite Twelth Night. Not just Viola, but the rest of the cast is stellar.
Love the chemistry between Viola and the Count in this version.

yes she's fantastic
Toby Stephens is beautiful.....sometimes when you look at him he looks so much like his mother, then take another look and he's very much his father's son.
I love them showing Orsino's feelings occasionally wavering
One of my favorite movies!!
I absolutely love this movie, great adaption, i especially love toby
That crooked smile just KILLS me.
Toby Stephens is also really good in Jane Eyre 2006 BBC series
The juxtaposition of a beautiful song, next to a beautiful film, of a beautiful story/play. Thank you so much. Simply brilliant!
🙃I feel so fortunate to have found this today.
Thank you I am forever grateful, enjoyed and enjoying it more
than words can say.
Imogen Stubbs is class. No surprise her work is coupled with the sublime works of Loreen McKennitt.
Imogen Stubbs was incredible, absolutely wowing
I love this film!
Excellent video, thank you for making this. And Loreena, my God! She is fantastic.
Loreena and Toby!! Oh dear, too much goodness! Mein Herz! :)
Where I to cast my lady I'd place her on a beach
Shipwrecked in a foreign land forever out of reach
I'd cast from her most inner self a brother most divine

to probe his deepest mind
So far away from comforts that she would then reflect
the essence then of friendship and the fear of it's neglect
She'd search a distant dukedom for love that she could find
and play a kinder music there much sweeter than the wine
My love is now a cast away
Whoes song she's yet to sing
The beating of her heartbeat there
sees good in everything
Around her rings a laughter for every tear she sheds
My ladie's only human tho
I mourned her when she fled
Beautiful! Love it!

I was lucky enough to be in this film as an Extra or background Artist as we are sometimes known now.
