- Here we take a look at how to make a DIY taper tool for both nock and point tapers on wood arrows. A perfect taper is hard to get with one of the pencil sharpener type or tools, but it's perfect every time with this taper tool that mounts to a disk sander.

Just getting into traditional archery from hunting for years with a compound. Appreciate the tips and info
Well I will definitely be building one of those jigs! Thanks!
I made one of these two months ago after seeing one on WoodenArrows channel. I was having trouble getting razor blades for my old hand tapering tool. This is WAAAY better, especially if doing multiple shafts. i can do a dozen in the time it takes to do three the other way. I did figure out that a finer sanding disc worked better than a courser one. Not to be a "safety sally" but I do suggest at least wearing glasses. I also have to use a dust mask now to keep from getting a sinus infection on some woods.
+pjculbertson55 yep, this is way faster and much more precise.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Nice to know that I'm not the only person that I know of that uses Zwickey Eskimo's ^.^
+John Bovee those are eclipse broad heads.
Clay Hayes I like the MA 2 and MA 3
that looks awesome. I foot my wood arrows with aluminum shafts at the front gives my good FOC, and I can use screw in points that can be changed for better tuning. have you ever tried this it works great. I only use a 5 inch piece so 1 dozen Al shafts makes 6 dozen arrows.
bearded archery thats a good idea man im gonna try that
+bearded archery I've never tried that but I've head it works great. Good tip.
I use river cane exclusively so no need for aluminum shafts. I just tap the river cane and glue in inserts. Wrap the outer cane with sinew to prevent splitting then you can replace points as needed.
Thats a nifty little deal.
Could you do the same thing to taper the rear of the shafts down to 5/16 for the 9" span in your other videos?
I have tried a couple of times and would like to see spliced arrows being made by you.
Right on
Hi just wonderd on the machine the disk that removes the material what abrasive is it is it sand paper or like a rasp thanks I advance
It’s a sanding disk
I want to be able to rear taper for more precision
Yeah makes sense
Was there a specific spot on the horizontal plane part of the jig that you started the degree lines? In relation to the disk. Hope that makes sense.
I think I see what you’re after. I just marked them out so they contact the disk , then cut the board off at the other end wherever it makes sense.
What did you use to make the 5° and 11° guide line ?
Thanks
I used a carpenter square.
