Sunako was such a great character... I liked her from the beginning, she was just so lonely and indescribably sad in every scene. And her voice actress really deserves an award for her amazing performance
Sunako is probably my favorite character in anything. Even though she's the villain (traditionally speaking) her ambition to build something for her people and defy death is admirable. This is especially true when you take into account the way she truly feels about herself. She hates what she is and desires the mercy of a higher power, and yet given no other choice, she pushes those feelings to the back of her heart.
I enjoyed seeing her cry and crumble after realizing that now she also has to face her own mortality, but they didn’t cherry-top it with her death. I’m sad. Hopefully this experience humbles her, and if she forgets again after a few centuries, she gets a harsher lesson. She lived for so long, and even got human volunteers to feed on. She has more experience than anyone else, she knows that she doesn’t have to kill, but she decided to turn half the village anyways to suffer the same fate as her. She made them kill their own families to rub it on their faces. I don’t blame *some* of the shiki (Megumi and the likes of her are an exception. Also Megumi’s death was delicious), they were freshly-born into their immortal lives, but she was the ADULT. She was the big scary baddie with the evil scary schemes, pulling on the strings with an evil scary laugh. I hated how she acted so carefree and above the concept of death. These types of characters always make me screech. She didn’t react with a sympathetic tone after noticing a suicidal attempt. But why would she? She EATS these beings. Humans suffering and death become less concerning as time passes. I don’t know why I mentioned that incident, but there’s a trend with evil characters acting nonchalant about suicidal people that annoys me. I know they’re supposed to be evil, but I hate it. Actually, I just haaattttee evil people in general. I like seeing immortal and invincible beings being reduced to a mortal role, and finally understand the true terror of death after being disconnected from it for so long. Also f/u/ck that pathetic monk, he took away the opportunity of us seeing a god crumbbllleeee and sufffeeerrrrr. But it’s okay, remembering Megumi’s death brings some warmth to my heart, they really prolonged it for no reason and gave us a satisfying feast.
Humans killed tons of wildlife by destroying their environment to build towns, houses ect so if Sunako deserves to die then so do humans. Yeah Sunako killed humans (her natural prey) for the sake of making a place for her own kind. Yes she was partially in the wrong but if you actually think about it the shiki wanting a territory where they can live as themselves and not have to pretend to be human, which they no longer are is pretty understandable. Also even if you hold the stance that her plan was still wrong, Sunako acknowledged that at the end, felt remorse and was even wanting to die in the church together with Seishin. In the manga it shows they live in Tokyo and it's obvious she isn't planning on doing it again. Also to me, no one should "burn in hell" for eternity as that's a disproportionate retribution.
And this right here was the moment that humanized the shiki for me. Like Jesus Christ, the way this anime forces you to truly think about the extent of our bloodlust. It was really hard for me to choose a side to support, but in the end I finally chose to support the shiki. Not because of what they do...mostly because of the two leads, Sunako and Seishin. (Also because seeing the old man kill Seishin's friends and family really made me hate the guy) The characterization of both were some of the best I've seen in a long time, both are tortured souls who only wish to start anew. Compared to Ozaki's descent into a former shell of who he was, Seishin's and Sunako's offered a more hopeful story, and I personally feel that out of all the cast in Shiki, these two truly deserved a happy ending. Yes, Sunako did some messed up stuff in the past, and she probably will do it again in the future, but I like to believe that thanks to Seishin, she won't become a blood-lusting monster like the other shiki. What I'm trying to say is that these two characters are fucking gold. So yeah, from what I've seen in the comments section, I'll be getting a lot of hate, but whatever. #TeamSunako
No hate here, I honestly love Sunako. I love how despite being a blood sucking being, she still retains her humanity 😊 It makes her that much more loveable aside from the fact she is absolutely ADORABLE 😍😍
Sunako is the reason why I cannot fully support the human side. Sunako didn't want to become a blood sucking monster so I can't blame her. If I would have gotten a new life, I wouldn't be willing to give it up either.
Niina Mp it is actually hard for me to support any side since neither side is Dad actually they're all just trying to survive we humans can't be blamed because they're only trying to survive the shikis cannot be blamed but there are checks on both side though
Niina Mp they didn't ask to get their blood sucked and turned into a vampire but it was because of the shiki's they did but flip the coin around and it's because they have to survive by feeding on people's blood or die by starving themselves so maybe there are no wrong or right in this anime maybe there's a gray area in this anime
Mai Rami I know that's my point the Shiki are not evil nor is the humans you can't judge any side so therefore it's a grey area that's what I am saying that's why I like animes like Tokyo Ghoul and this anime I will say Higurashi is my favorite anime of all time but I do like the concept of what shiki and Tokyo has Tokyo ghouls very similar to this anime as well with cool are not all evil and the humans are not all evil they're all just trying to survive I like animes that blur the line between what is right and what is wrong there's a big gray area and these animes and shows you cannot judge any side sometimes in life there are gray areas and this anime touches on that and so does Tokyo ghouls course
Niina Mp it may be true that both sides are trying to survive in there's no real evil people in Shiki and they're just trying to survive but still there's a downside to being a vampire in a way you're robbed of your chance to go to the afterlife I thought about this how Gary of a thought it would be if I was to die I must say vampires are real which they're not I just thought this hypothetically I would outlive a lot of my loved ones and I would never get to see them again because I could never die when you think about it it's kind of cruel and depressing I mean yeah you can't blame them for trying to survive but would it really be more cruel to miss out on your chance to see your loved ones again if you were to become a vampire think of it this way how would it feel I mean everyone would be gone and that person would just be left unless he turns them into a vampire that doesn't work then what happens if he loses their loved ones are that person loses their loved ones and they don't rise up in my opinion yes I can't blame them because they're only trying to survive but at the same time I think becoming a Shiki would be a very cruel and unusual punishment in the sense you give up on your right to see your loved ones again when they die because therefore you won't die
That ending pissed me off and just ruined the whole series for me, which I was planning on re-watching after I was done. I just cannot sympathize with Sunako and Muroi. It doesn't matter how 'tragic' Sunako is because she is still the mastermind behind the village killings. She knows the pain of being a forsaken demon but selfishly turned many people into shiki out of loneliness and did not even try to become something more than what she is. I think the truly tragic shiki here are Tooru and Ritsuko, who were the most remorseful and willingly died.
Yup im still kinda suprise most people in other videos commented about how evil human, like wtf did they really understand this anime shiki theyre the one who started it and not trying to cause harm like vampire in twillight or others.
I was a pro-human until my second watch but one does realize that there was no "Evil, very evil" side when you think that humanity has lots of countries, military bases and other shit being already established at the era and one does realize that Shiki had only a bunch of backalley and night-road dwellers which they named Big City Unit or Units in this universe... and then you quickly hit the realization that the starter numbers of Shiki were too weak to directly negotiate with 1300 humans even before they started their LARGE scale killing campaign just to get ahold of one base that was totally needed for their species since they do not have the advantage or a plan in the case of a crisis that one rotten apple, be it Ookawa who abused Atsushi throughout all his live and made him into who he is or just some random villager, could tell stuff about them to the nearby military, police or whatever human system that there is available around their town and that means the option of co-existence was really a type of what one may call *American dream", though. And before you ask about the option which that they took, it still was not the best option as even Seishin takes Sunako straight into Tokyo for her to hide amongst humans in peace at the manga's and novel's ending, anyways... Although yeah, they should have originally taken that option as well since the world of living would still fear of the unknown and say that ultimate fact and truth is what's dead should be dead and go back to its grave to any original Shiki besides Yoshie and Tatsumi and maybe Seishirou too since he was not one yet... So yup, best out of those options such as trying either co-existence and full-invasion... is to try neither of those and try to keep herself hiding from any potential hunter and from the world of living unless she somehow comes across some more nihilists after receiving such MAJOR blows and losing the two she already had, which are Tatsumi and Seishirou themselves and wise up herself to become more discretive, hidden and make sure to avoid pulling stunts like she did in Sotoba for all eternity from now on, duh.
Seishin's my favorite character from Shiki. Sunako is my second. It annoys me when people are treating this like a black and white anime ( viewing the shiki as 100% evil and humans as 100% good )
@@RainBerry46 The biggest problem with that statement is the fact that aside from plagues, natural disasters and old age, nothing has killed more humans than humans. I have a weird question how come Sunako was able to visit the Monk technically that's a holy place that he was in so shouldn't she have not been able to go into it and then she was praying at a alter I would think that it would repulse her like the other Shiki tell me is this a plot hole in the series
Well when Sunako first encountered it she commented that it didn't "feel" like a church. This is probably because while the people who built it intended it to be a church, it never became one and Seishin was the only one that hung out there. However in the manga Chizuru stated that Sunako is also able to read the bible but I don't remember an explanation as to why Sunako can while all of the other shiki would freak out at the mere sight of a cross or Buddhist statue. My best guess would be because despite feeling forsaken, Sunako has always felt a strong attachment to god. I'm not sure.
It stopped being a holy place a long time ago. It was nothing more than an abandoned building where Seishin frequently goes to separate himself from the rest of the village to drown in his inner thoughts before Sunako even came along. The reason Sunako was able to get in was because Seishin gave her permission the first time. And before she leaves every time she visits, she always asks him for permission to come back. Which, without knowing her intentions, he always grants it to her.
is it just tell me if I'm wrong somebody but shouldn't she have actually not been able to visit the Monk since he lives in the Holy building I mean he was in a chapel and she was too so shouldn't she have been afraid of the place and then she was praying in the chapel in the anime isn't that kind of a lot since the other shiki's were afraid and on top of that most vampires are afraid of anything religious why was she any different that is kind of a pothole since she's a vampire
Eh, I still hate Sunako. It's true that she didn't choose to become shiki, and it would be understandable if she only killed people to survive, but her actions caused so much unnecessary suffering, both for the humans and the shiki she and the others created. They murdered entire families, and those who became shiki were threatened and manipulated into doing her bidding. They made Tohru kill his best friend and threatened to kill his family if he refused. That has nothing to do with survival, that's just straight up evil. She never once cared one bit about how many people's lives she ruined, she just felt sorry for herself and blamed everything on God. I wish she had died and some of the more sympathetic shiki had survived instead.
Destroyed families? Ruined lives? Everything that was done, no matter how obscene, was meant to maintain the secrecy and potential success of her objective, which is to create a secluded place her kind can call home. It was a means to end and her conduct can't begin to campare to what humanity has done to itself throughout all of history to present. How many families and lives were destroyed at the hands of warmongers throughout the ages and their sycophantic followers after they claimed countless territories? And not because the warmongers needed to do it out of necessity. But because they wanted to flaunt and increase their power and reach over the lands. Sunako, who just wanted one place for her kind to exist peacefully without fear of being hunted down, looks like a saint compared to them.

Sunako killing people to feed himself that is absolutely not correct thing what she was doing.
Sunako killing people to feed himself that is absolutely not correct thing what she was doing. I hate two things first muroi sympathize to sunako and saved him and second they are killing humans who are threat to them. I didnt understand if they kill all the humans in the village and people convert into shiki then who is left to feed.
They were planning to get people from nearby cities
