Definitely pays to plan ahead for air travel off the island. An authentic account of previous travel experiences. Very useful tips for flying out of HNL airport. TSA Pre-Check DEFINITELY lowers your waiting times when going trough security.
Hey Miriam, I am going to Hawaii in 20 days February 1 to February 14 2024 And I was wondering if you have any tips for a family of 7 people but 5 kids under 15 traveling to Maui Hawaii and tips for my parents. I want to be there for my parents and I want to have fun.
I originally was looking at a 6 AM flight from Oahu to Hawaii but didn’t book it because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get transportation at 4 AM. Good tips!
I always leave it till the last minute with flights! Good to know there aren't any ubers/lyfts that early in the morning! it's become one of our conveniences and always think they are available!
Super helpful! My flight out of HNL leaves at 7:30 AM, and I've been trying to figure out what time to return my Turo rental and still get to the airport on time.
@@thejessta you're the best!! I really appreciate it! 🙏🏼 I bought mine in the smallest size (Carry-On) in white. I took a look at the site & it looks like they discontinued that color. It's definitely harder to keep clean but I just love how crisp whites/pastels look! Pro tip: I charged the battery pack and plugged in my iPhone but it wouldn't charge. I tried a few different cords thinking there was something wrong with the connection...until I realized there's actually an on/off button for the battery 🤦🏻♀️.
@@YestoHawaii I bet it looks awesome in white! How are they to clean? And how have the wheels held up? Thanks for the tip about the battery. I probably would’ve overlooked the switch too 😋
@@thejessta Super easy! Mine came with a special sponge that gets the scuffs off. It's kind of like those Magic Eraser cleaning pads. The wheels are a dream - they do a full 360°. I'm a huge fan of the hard shell. I have literally stuffed SO MUCH STUFF in that thing. It's got a compression strap & divider to help. I've just wasted so much money on cheap luggage...that ends up breaking or tearing & I have to purchase another bag. I'm stoked to finally find something that works & looks nice.
Any recommendations for those who are flying out of Honolulu on a late flight? Such as things to do once someone checks out of the hotel at 11am up until flight departure at 8:30 pm
I'd check with your hotel to see if they can hold your luggage. If your hotel has access to a pool with a shower, I'd say spend a nice day at the beach or pool then freshen up before the flight. Another option is to do a full-day sightseeing tour (usually in the morning returning back to Waikiki around 4pm or 5pm. These are typically in air-conditioned motor coaches. This would fill up your day so when you get back, you can just grab your luggage and head to the airport. Traffic can be unpredictable so I'd say leave Waikiki early then have dinner at the airport so it's stress-free.
The Plumeria lounge is pretty small but not bad if you wanted to have a few drinks (wine/beer). When I went, the food was more snack food than actual full hot meals as I have had on airport lounges elsewhere (compared to a Delta or Centurion lounge, as an example). However, I got in for free because I have the "Priority Pass" for airport lounges that comes with my credit card - so for me, it was worth the trip to spend a bit of time there. It's a good spot if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the airport as the handful of times I've gone, it's been super quiet. But, as for value, I think it is a bit pricey if you're paying out-of-pocket since it's mostly snack food . I haven't been to this lounge since pre-COVID so it could be a lot different now. I would guess that the food would be pre-packaged due to COVID restrictions.
Is this process any different when flying from HNL to the Big Island (Island hopping)? I wasn't sure if we were flying Southwest from island to island if there was a shorter/easier process.
I'm also traveling with only a carryon back to the mainland. Do I need to put that thru Agriculture first? Or do I bypass that line and go directly to Security/TSA Pre-Check?
You can bypass the 1st agriculture checkpoint pre-security and go straight to Security/TSAprecheck with carry-on only. Love the carry-on life & packing light! 🙌🏼
@@YestoHawaii Thank you so much!! Your tips on early morning flights is super helpful! I totally would miss my flight without your tip on pre-booking transportation since I also won't have a car. Keep up the great work! 👍
Hi! I am traveling there with my husband in November. What is TSA check? And how to you obtain one ? Also! My fiancé is under DACA, did you need a passport to travel from Hawaii to the US (we are flying back to CA) Or was an ID enough?
TSA precheck breezes you through security. Here's a link for more info: www.tsa.gov/precheck. I also have Global Entry which allows you to enter the borders quicker and saves you from waiting in lengthy lines. Hawaii is the 50th state so it is still within the U.S. 😊
As of right now, there aren't any new changes. Masks are still required to be work indoors at most places. Masks are not required to be worn outdoors at all, though it's recommended if you're in a big group setting. However, there might be some changes coming up. proper pronunciation of Honolulu: *hoe* (like the garden tool) - kno - lou - lou ... there is NO 'a', so you cannot pronounce it like the town of Hana.

All the same. You'll fly through the regular airport with normal TSA, just as if you were flying to the mainland or internationally.
I'm also traveling with only a carryon back to the mainland. Do I need to put that thru Agriculture first? Or do I bypass that line and go directly to Security/TSA Pre-Check?
