I often wonder what's going on in Ian's head when he's preforming? Sometimes it seems like the music is simply coming out of him without any complicated musical theory?
@@markadams7328 he based his flute style on a jazz artist named Roland Kirk, who improvised a lot and was also a great showman, as I understand it. I believe Ian taught himself flute in part at least from listening to Kirk
I have never loved a group as well as I have Jethro Tull !! ♥️ Thee Best !!! Born in ‘54, Been A Fan from the get-go, Due To My Oldest Brother, Thank You, Thank You, Joe, Who May I Add, Self -Taught Himself The Flute Due To The Influence Of Ian Anderson ❤️♥️♥️😊
This is beautiful. Was always one of my favorite Christmas songs, but this one exhibits the love of the musicians for their different instruments!! God bless you all, be safe.
Jethro Tull not only makes music that swings, Ian was swinging his body around from side to side in perfect rhythm with those around him. No wonder the violinist had a smile on her face. Ian has a great ability to bring the best out in people around him (or rise to the occasion).
...and it all started with This Was, shortly after it's initial release was my first exposure, it still remains a solid staple to my listening pleasure, from beginning to end...
I just playd my JT crismas CD and hearing it again made my eyes a little weet. That album is fild so many great numbers that any Tullfan must get a copy .
Excellent orchestration and musicianship! I saw this entertaining tour though it is difficult to conceive that it was 15 years ago. My wife and I loved it! Saw it outdoors at Wolftrap either the summer before or after this splendid performance. I remember the violinist fronting a cover of Kashmir which produced a standing ovation. There were also some classical numbers from Mozart etc… Having followed Jethro Tull since l was 15 and having seen several other Tull shows, this one stands out as “something completely different” and yet somehow the same from a superbly talented musician, composer, and performer.
Who... 40 Years ago... Would have thought this rock and roll madman, legend. and total genius would have the gall to becomes so renowned??? Just Kidding! Happy New Year to all!! From Honolulu
Saludos a Ian Anderson, desde nogales Veracruz México. He seguido tu música desde que comenzaste.un auténtico shouman desde los 70s .a veces hasta me muevo como usted cuando trato de imitar sus canciones.
Loved it! Might love it more if he was still wearing his Jack-In-The-Green outfit; hot cha cha! :-) Hah! Yeah, he's still got it, and sharing with this lovely orchestra and band mates, yes!
Wow, looking & sounding great. Takes me back to my high school days haha. Playing cards in the basement of a buddy spinning early Jethro Tull vinyl. I was born in a small town in Rheinland-Pfalz so the location of this clip is special to me. Later in life as a technician in the Canadian Air Force I met a cousin of Mr. Anderson! Mr. Scott Bradley an engineer working at the Boeing Canada facility in Arnprior Ontario. Sadly it closed some time after the contract for maintenance support of our Labrador helicopter fleet ended. I hope Scott fared well after that.
Bloody fantastic.... My parents saw these guys in the 70s and my husband and I were at their 50th Anniversary show in Berkeley a few years ago. Ian Anderson is 👏the👏shit👏 💜🖤💜🖤💜
I'm glad Ian isn't quite so down about God anymore. I've even read where he has done benefits to save a few churches. I've been a Tull fan since I was 12.... so 35 years or so.
@@matthewberry3155 Have you seen the one where Greg Lake and Ian Anderson did I Believed in Father Christmas together? Awesome. Two of my all time favs performing together.
So pleased to have caught your 50th anniversary tour at Summerfest a few years back. I'm a lifelong fan, first saw you and Tull at the Forum in LA, War Child. Best wishes for the new year.
He’s just flat out amazing and always has been. Saw Tull for the first time I believe in 1973 in Memphis. Still “eying little girls w/ bad intent” with that famous stare!:) LMAO! What a performer! ONE OF A KIND!
The violinist at 00:40 looks exactly like a young Amy Adams (on whom I've always had a huge crush). ❤️ So despite being a longtime fan of Ian Anderson, I naturally spent the remainder of the video hoping to catch more glimpses of the beautiful young musician... and I was not disappointed. (I think the camera operator may have been as taken with her beauty as I was.) 😍👏
If anybody can bring in the "Merry" in Merry Christmas, it's Ian Anderson. 🎶 But...I still think it's too soon for the whole family to holds hands in front of the Christmas Tree and sing in harmony, Aqua Lung..... Maybe next year.
Greeting from Tucson, Arizona. Dear Sir: Do you remember playing here decades and decades ago, in the Tucson Wrestling Ctr. Come back, with have a real live music hall and Tucson Symphony. We miss you.
that is very awesome to see ty so much Jethro Tull you have made many of my Christmas's Bright , and i know Christmas with you is a huge tradition , i remember waiting for your new albums to come out at Christmas yeah I remember that big time ty Mr Anderson you are one very amazing Human being and Artist, and one I have admired so much , and too top it off we have our Birthday's on the same day, a ways back Ian my family where farmers once in England a long time ago they where called the Stambridge's ,sadly they went to War with Germany in what 1917 Vimy Ridge France .

Oh my goodness, that was just wonderful, and so much fun to watch. Thank you for posting this! Best wishes and Happy New Year from southcentral Kentucky!
Perfect soundtrack for a new holiday James Bond film wherein Santa's sled may be part of an international cartel bearing nuclear weapons. All joking aside, this arrangement totally rocks as the perfect gift wrapping for Mr. Toll's phenomenal technical talent and spirit that has grown.
I have always felt and still do one of the most under rated musical geniuses we will ever be lucky enough to enjoy god bless Ian ❤
Merry Christmas Mr. Anderson to you and your family. Merry Christmas to all Tull fans everywhere.
Always loved Jethro Tull. God bless Ian Anderson.
Celebrating Christmas and 40 years of one-legged flute playing. Loved the chemistry between him and the lead violinist.
More than 50 years🔊👏🙄

Ian is the consumate showman, and musician
...spot on...Ian Anderson; the front man for Jethro Tull, performing wearing a suit, a somewhat departure from his usual attire...how posh.

Ian, I'm 68 and I've loved your music all these years, That performance was amazing!
Some music makers the older they get the better they become &IAN is one fine wine indeed&my does it taste sweet!!!🤗🤗🤗
I love this ! Still those same expressions and putting that one leg up .
Ian is a Zen flute player. He still does those facial expressions when I first saw him in 1969.
I just love Jethro Tull music so much. I've been hooked since 1969! Thank you 💜
Same here😊
Yes! (About ‘71 for me)

Hearing 'Love Story' in late '68 on BBC Radio 1.
Hearing ‘Cross-eyed Mary’ circa 71/72. Saw them for the first time in ‘73 as a 16 year old. John Evan a special memory.
69 years old now, been a Tull fan since the 70's and always will be!
Ian Anderson is brilliant. Thank you for this video.

Quite nice Mr. Anderson. You still got it as a classic jazz flutist 👏👏👏
