How are her movements so perfectly fluid and incredible? Like, she doesn't look like she's giving it any effort, but also looks as if she's giving it all her power at the same time...howww??
@ Celeste Lalianna have you seen the original witch Ben Vareen as the Narrator ? He glided across the stage with feline grace. I’m anxious to see the revival, because the new Narrator is, as you state, effortlessly graceful.
BENJAMIN BREHM uh I’m pretty sure she didn’t miss lines, they either cut them out for being a clip on the view, or they aren’t in the revival, Broadway ain’t a high school production
I really wanted NOT to like this, being a huge fan of the original. That being said, this was pretty frikkin' AWESOME. Not so much Pippin, at least in this portion. But the Narrator, Patina, was totally awesome. I was happily and completely proven wrong that no one but Ben Vereen could play the role.
KidIndigo1 Matthew James Thomas disappointed imo. Patina Miller exceeded every expectation. Neither she nor Ben Vereen were better than another, but they were both utterly spectacular.
Kyle Dean Massey is a better Pippin than Matthew James Thomas in my eyes. His dancing and singing is way better and his ‘random’ movements have such a comedic aspect to it, I love that.
I'm addicted to both this version and the Ben Vereen version of this song. I definitely like the sound better in this one but the choreography and the character I go back and forth on. The dancing here is great but Pippin is miserable throughout the whole thing and that back and forth between him and the Lead Player in this version feels like they're showing off. In the Ben Vereen version, the Lead Player actually cheers Pippin up and gets him to keep trying and they dance together and it feels much more playful. Either way, 2 fantastic versions of a fantastic song and both get stuck in my head
I see it more as the leading player manipulating Pippin by enamoring him with the glitz of performance, which foreshadows her eventual intention to get him to kill himself for the spectacle of it all.
And if I can be a lesbian for a second, she had me with that octave leap to the low F#-G# ("dry your lips"). Hopefully, when Malala is Emperor of the World, Patina can be Secretary of State or something.
ive always liked ciara renee's leading player too: hers always seemed a little more malicious to me, especially in the opening "you look frenzied" line. her arm movements there are so sudden they almost seem more like an attack, and it looks like pippin is shocked/startled into sitting down, whereas patina miller's version begins with a softer presentation sort of motion. that being said, i think both are great
Dear friends Jesus Christ is ALWAYS WITH YOU! Upon accepting this truth, these 3 words will become like a safety net for you, protecting you from falling into despair. Because we are human, we will always have ups and downs in our life experiences. But the promise of the Presence of our Lord and Savior limits how far down we can go. Sometimes you may feel as if you are in free fall when people or things you had counted on let you down. Yet as soon as you remember that JESUS IS WITH YOU, your perspective changes radically. You can look to Jesus for hope and help. Dear ones, not only is Yeshua (Jesus) with you but He will hold you by your right hand, guide you, counsel you, and take you into His Glory. All you have to do is say YES to Him this very moment and receive the promises of his unfathomable love. I welcome you to receive our Creator THIS VERY MOMENT by first acknowledging that you are a sinner in need of our Savior. Welcome Abba Yahweh (Father God) through Yeshua (Jesus the Christ) into your life. Receive grace by believing in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross, His death, burial and resurrection. Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior whom died on the cross for the sins of ALL human-kind, arose in the 3rd day and currently sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. You will then be justified in salvation and forever blessed with His abundant love by the Holy Spirit! ❤️❤️❤️ (Zaphaniah 3 : 17; John 6 : 55-59; Psalms 73 : 23-26)
Compare this choreography to Fosse's original and you'll see instantly just how sorry this version is - but I felt that about the entire production. The idea of Pippin as circus wasn't new to this director - it was Fosse's original concept, which he changed because he came up with something better.
@@1redfury The circus concept was Fosse's ORIGINAL concept for the show. Ultimately he went in a completely different direction, but Diane Paulus was not new to the party with the idea.
@@Marcel_Audubon Oh, perhaps you should take your own advice, sweetie, because I'm not the one who needs to grow up. Now, and I mean this in the nicest possible way - go to your room.
In either case (and something about them strikes me as essentially different, I can't quite put my finger on it), the reorchestration is superbly done, and makes an argument for some hidden brilliance under what appeared to be a mediocre score.
KidIndigo1 Nobody's denying Vareen's qualities, but have you seen her live? She's pretty phenomenal, physically, acting-wise, and she's vocally perfect, as accomplished as pretty much any opera singer in the world with an international career right now. For a young woman to approach an iconic persona immortalized by Vereen with that aplomb - I think her trick is to pretend it's an iconic role that's been embodied several times - is something else. I'd cast her in practically anything.
Miranda, nope, I haven't seen her live. I'm confident that she's awesome. Careful, though, she is NOT opera, at least from what I have seen/known. Opera is a VERY different animal. Nonetheless, as I've posted before, she's amazing. Much more lithe and acrobatic. The only riposte I offer is that, if you watch Ben, his technique and pure artistry, IMHO, beats her.
For some reason Patina Miller's career tanked after this. Not sure why. She was so talented but of course she was no Ben Vereen who originated this role.
sorry all. pippin is Ben Vereen. she is not dancing fosse at all. pippin is fosse.. to see him do that live was so outstanding. so much so...I saw it 5 nights in a row. my idol and probably one of my favorite broadway productions and without telling you my age....I saw south pacific with Mary martin.
.... i dunno how i feel about this. leading player is good, but i definitely like ben vereen better. and what is this pippin even doing... i just don't think hes that good at this part. ehh whatever.
I can't even begin to wonder how one would even begin to explain how overrated she, and this entire revival, is. Also, her voice gave me a female boner.

Fosse. That was a staple of his choreography. The isolations made it seem like you described. So difficult. Both Vereeniging and Patina were amazing
One might say the same of her singing!
This acting reads loud and clear. So many people don't play this scene with enough variety, and these two have it down to an art.
Watch the original cast do it, different vibe but I love both so much
I know right? Especially the ending.
BENJAMIN BREHM uh I’m pretty sure she didn’t miss lines, they either cut them out for being a clip on the view, or they aren’t in the revival, Broadway ain’t a high school production
Patina Miller is pretty fabulous.
One might say... fabulous, baby!
OMG FULL CIRCLE MOMENT!!! Patina played Dolores in Sister Act on Broadway and Whoopi casted her! Now she's back on Whoopi's show with Pippin!!!
Oh my god I have such a huge crush on her
THOSE ARMS
That’s what I’m saying! Her arms are incredibly toned and it’s incredible-
I literally cry when they start dancing together like it’s SO CUTE
PATINA IS A BEAST ... WONDERFUL WORK !
MATTHEW JAMES THOMAS IS PERFECTION
Yes he is.
turning your capslock on doesn't make your gushing any less inane

Patina Miller is the greatest actor, singer and dancer to ever play the Leading Player.
I love how he said damn instead of sh*t
tbrandom101 he had to bc they were on television 😂
Even in our high school production we say it
Love the female lead player!
they're both so beautiful and acted this so perfectly
her breath control is outstanding
Ben Vereen defined that role, but WOW, Patina Miller...!
Amazing dance number and vocals! Already excited to watch this in November when it comes to vegas!! Kudos to Matthew and Patina!! Love em

KidIndigo1 I feel the same way. Even tho nobody could top Ben Vareen....but this was solid
The guy can dance, sing, and do acrobatics, what else do you want?
i miss this so much :(

god patina miller is my favorite person
It's been 40 years since my high school attempts at "Corner of the Sky" and "With You?" Join us, come and waste a decade or three....
Fosse all over this - Patina is spectacular!
Love this song
this is my favorite youtube video actually
3:49 When you know the original dialogue and it's SO obvious. (Hint: It's not damn)
Hahahahha. Ikr
"SHIT!"
Patina the next big thing 💯💯💯💯💯💯
I'd kill to be Matthew James Thomas.

the fact that I like the revival better than the original
Love this!!
Patina is SO scary as the Leading Player. I LOVE HER.
Patina came for that Tony!!! Worked her ass off...
HOW DID THIS NOT WIN ANY TECHNICAL TONYS?! 🧐
See her every week on CBS "Madam Secretary."
Fantastik!!!

YES, EXACTLY. CIARA'S LEADING PLAYER NEVER GETS MENTIONED AND I LO V E D HER
Is Patina Miller even real?
She is 50 cent mother now in Power Book III 💪🏿
I like Kyle Dean's dancin' sass so much better, but he is so childish and great for this role.
The choreography in this one really doesn’t match the energy of the original. That being said- GOD I love this Leading Player.
kyle dean massey and ciara renee were more in sync. these 2 are great, but thats just my opinion
What key is this in?
Starts with Irving Berlin and Debussy's favorite: F# major; then modulates to C#. A bit tricky, since it begins briefly a step higher (G#),
+miranda c Stephen Schwartz writes in challenging keys, and time signatures. Guitar part of his " Children of Eden" is a beast to play !!!

A sensational reorchestration of a mediocre score. I think she's more dynamic that the manic Ben Vereen. He gave me a headache.
