    Thanks for the videos! I'm not trying to disagree with your assessment, but just to say the new 1GD really is better. We've done 11,000km in our Nov 2020 1GD mostly up in north west Australia. So mostly driving at 110km/h and regularly overtaking big road trains and caravans etc. Just got back from a 400km trip this morning and it will go from 100-110km/h to well over that very easily when you overtake. It builds speed quickly. I can't compare to the 1KD as I've never driven one but it's much more punchy than the 2019 Hilux we had previously. The torque converter locks up well and ATF temps sit at 88-89 degrees (coolant 85-86 degrees) when cruising at 110. It's an absolutely stock vehicle though, so if we do add bullbar etc I'm not saying I wouldn't mind a higher capacity engine, but they definitely seem to have fixed a few things compared to the previous 1GD. Also my MaxPro floor mats arrived today and I just fitted them. Thanks for the recommendation, very happy with them!

    Anthony do yourself a favour and drive the new one
    Mine pulls like a train and I was shocked when the throttle controller went on
    Same hill with the new one blows the doors off my old 1kd and hold gears up most inclines without gearing down
    Definitely an upgrade in every way so far for me

      Interesting, I have been playing with the idea of an N80 lux (utes are my style) and with the re-map toyota themselves gave them has peaked my interest, driven my mothers 2015 fortuner a few times and yeah seemed laggy and sluggish and surprised my n70 felt better particularly with weight from mods and muddies (no tune)

    Couldn’t agree more. The company I work for use both Prado land cruisers and Hilux 2 & 4WD configurations.
    I waited quite some time before taking the plunge in purchasing my 2015 N70 SR5.
    After driving many different models it was a no brainer. The 1KD FTV has more torque where I need it to be.
    Slightly less efficient, but I know beyond the doubt it was the right choice.
    As always, top upload. Keep on keeping on. 🤘

    I find this interesting. Ive owned two Hiluxes with 1KD’s - one manual one auto. And also two N80 Hiluxes with the 1GD - both 130kW and 150kW variants (both Autos). In my experience both versions of the 1GD pulled stronger and were more fuel efficient than the 1KD versions. 1GD makes more power and torque everywhere compared to 1 KD. Maybe the differences you feel are due more to gearbox mapping than the engine?

      yo! this is kinda late but i was looking for an answer because I’m planning to buy a car with 1KD-FTV or 1GD-FTV. what engine does produce more power if i wanted to enjoy my ride, and at the same time would put on a show on the road (like we’re full pack 7-8 persons) thanks!

    Interesting thoughts mate.
    Will be keeping my December 2009 Hilux 1KD I have owned since new, now 177ks.
    Just had 180k service @Toyota here in Newcastle, mentioned I wanted a engine diagnostic scan and check oil pick
    up. Oil pick up all ok but no scan. Told car needs to be cold and will take an hour and a half and asked me why I
    wanted it done. I tried to explain I wanted to prevent any future engine issues as I want to keep vehicle but it
    was like talking to a brick wall. Wish there was someone close with your knowledge AND attention to detail.

    That's why I own and love my 4.0 V6 Kakadu 5 speed averaging 13.5L/100. And goes nearly as good as my previous LX470. Probably should of kept the LX...A very comfy and lovely vehicle to drive too.

      You just answered my question...I was pondering on whether i should get a "modern" 4.0 prado or get a used "old" but well maintained Lexus Lx470...and from this comment I'll stick to the latter. Those vehicles are just timeless, hardly and very comfortable.

    Just some info for the “numbers” the 1kd makes the numbers earlier in the rev range then the 1gd... the manufacturer gives “peak” numbers, therefore when you compare apples to apples with the same numbers, the 1kd will feel much better making more power down low where it really matters...

      That’s what I was thinking. And much narrower spread of power on the 1GD won’t help in the driveability department either.

    I have new Hilux with power upgrade. after a 2016 hilux for 4 years. i can definitely say the new one is a big improvement. But not sure if the improvement is felt as much in the prado.

    • @HORTOJM
      @HORTOJM 3 года назад +2

      Agreed Alex, noticeable difference with new Hilux engine. Maybe the Prado is the issue. .Weight, diff ratio, Tyre size, Auto trans, so many variables. BTW, I read somewhere that there were a number of modification to the new 1GD FTV. They didn't list a remap in the list.... Mine tows my 2100Kg boat much better than the previous Hilux. newsroom.toyota.eu/new-hilux---a-more-powerful-engine-for-a-striking-design/

      @markymark3308 3 года назад

      Geez talk about a winge, try a throttle controller, it is not a remap or a chip, but it will make a difference. Try one size down in tyres, or buy the latest version with the awesome new engine. I think we all get you point you have been making. Put your big boy pants on and stop winging about it. The latest 1GD is a big improvement with lots of upgrades, not just a remap. Keep it real Anth, please!

    I own a 19MY 1GD Prado, and I’m fine with its performance. That said, I’ve got a manual. And it’s my „slow“ car - if I’m in a hurry, I got a passenger car for that. But sure it would be nice to have all in one. A fast SUV which is also capable off road. Eventually that leads to a Land Rover New Defender.

  • @Harpoika
    @Harpoika 3 месяца назад

    I have a feeling that it's just a feeling. If it performs better by numbers the worse "feel" of the 1gd might be just from the fact that it feels different than a 1kd driver is used to. I'm only speculating but thia kind of biases are tricky to control. I'm driving 1gd with AT so I might be biased too.

    Would love to hear your thoughts on the latest Prado. I had 2007 120 and replaced it with 2018 150 yeah it's gutless but I don't push it hard. I am generally interested in getting the best economy out of it. Thought the new one would be more economical, but in reality, there's little difference. Would love to know the physical differences between the 18 and 21 if it's just the map of the engine and transmission then Toyota should be able to retrofit it.

    Hello guys I have a 2014 Hilux UK version with 1 KD I just changed it's coolant only has 80k on the clock my heat is working fine and engine lowered it's coolant level after one day of replacing the coolant I topped it up again about 2 or 1 inches above the Full mark but since then it never lowered the coolant level I also once let it idle with the cap off for 30 minutes all I saw was coolant rising and over flowing but got no bubbles I drove it for an hour on variable speeds and Let it idle for half an hour too temp gauge always where it should be so should I worry about anything else? Or is my vehicle ok and fine
