    Zakopane is fine for teaching kids how to ski. It is a nice little town. You have other things to do as well like sledding with dogs, snowmobiles, outdoor heated thermal pools, or the ice park with the maze which kids would like or the Tatra National park where you can ski down the black runs. We stayed at the hotel at the bottom of Poland Szymoszkowa and it was a nice chilled few days. But it does not even begin to scratch the itch if you are only after skiing. Even the resorts in Turkey or Greece are bigger.

    I used to manage a hostel in Zdiar, half way between Lomnica and Zakopane. Been to both places many times for skiing and pubs. And have danced in Humno more times than I care to share. Thanks for a great video and taking me down memory lane. Slovakia will always be a home for me.
    Edit: For those who see this. Robbie is 100% correct. It is absolutely the cheapest place to ski. If you have NEVER done it before then my old village has super basic slopes for even cheaper. Theres lots of cheap acommodation in the village also. The two slopes are called Strachan (Mega basic, perfect to learn) and Bachledka

If that is fixed, I’d go back for a relaxed week as it’s great value. Another good value resort is Baquiera Beret in the Pyrenees with some great restaurants.

    • @MortalThe
      @MortalThe 5 месяцев назад

      @@RobbieKnox It is not too tough there in Kasprowy Wierch. The climate and views are Alpine there with heights around 2k meters. That is the only place in Tatra that the slopes are so good and resemble the alps. But there are only two of them , still worth it. You climb up with a cabin car, then spend a day there on two different ski lifts and slopes. And they are reddish. And then you can ski all the way down to Zakopane. Great run, I recommend it.

    Skiing in Zakopane is definitely nothing compared to larger and greater resorts, but it is perfect for beginners and casual skiing (coming from someone who learnt to ski on Szymoszkowa). It defo is suited more to a winter holiday in general (mixing skiing with walks, shopping and other activities), rather than an all out ski holiday. I do love how idealic the area is though, and they have a strong traditional highland culture! And youre not wrong, people seem to have no sense of others on the slopes, have seen far too many crashes over the years on Szymoszkowa. Great Vid!

    I went once to Zakopane. As a Swiss skier, I was not too impressed by the skiing... but I was in the company of a charming Polish girl, so I was not frustrated at all!
    But the day ticket was cheap alright! The one for foreigners was significantly more expensive than the one for locals, but was only the equivalent of about half a pound, and it allowed to cut queues, using the short cut also used by ski teachers and their clients. A bit embarrassing, though!

    Robbie, Poland doesn't have amazing places for skiing because our mountains are small compared to, for example, the Alps. It's ok for beginners, but not for professionals. I hope you liked food and... alcohol :)

    ruclips.net/video/HEdTgoi6C40/видео.htmlfeature=shared
    But true, because of national park we don’t have many ski slopes in zakopane.
    I think the biggest ski areas in Poland that I’ve seen (not in Tatra mountains) are Szczyrk and ski arena Szrenica in Szklarska poręba
    They can be crowded, we are not alpine country, I think lowlands are around 75% of Poland area ;)
