- Based on over 20 years of studying so-called work-family balance Bahia has realized there is no such thing. After watching others pass off glib answers to a serious problem faced by 72% of mothers, Bahira exposes the different requirements between the work system (8 to 6), school system (ends at 3) and proposes 6 ways to take back control in your life.
Dr. Trask has researched, written and spoken on globalization, work-life-gender issues and family change. Specifically she focuses on the factors influencing families and the programs and policies can assist and strengthen families. Dr. Trask has a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Yale University and a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. She has authored and edited five books, including most recently Women, Work, and Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities (Routledge, 2014). She regularly participates in expert group meetings at the United Nations on issues around gender equality and empowerment and work-life reconciliation.

My husband and I get so exhausted sometimes both working full time and raising 3 young kids. And then we have to remind ourselves that it's not just us. Everyone is tired and trying to make it in this world. Great tedtalk
I'm 25 with 2 small children, a house, a full time job, and trying to run a side business. I'm already burned out. Idk how women do this for their entire lives 😓 we definitely need a better system. I struggle to find balance every day. Thank you so much for this talk. It's good to know I'm not alone in these feelings or experiences.

Incredible how much you are juggling and at such a young age! At a few years older than you, the only one of those I have to manage is the full time job and finding a balance is already quite a struggle. Here's hoping you find a good balance sooner rather than later or have found one already. I suppose it comes down to the control you can exert over your own time (as opposed to letting other exert it).
@@cubanita365 which balance? The 50's where women had to choose between an abusive relationship or being homeless? That's what you call balance?
@@sharathvasudev I see my neighbors 3 year old daughter being passed around to different caretakers like a baton at the Olympics. Daycare on Monday, grandma on Tuesday, baby sitter on Wednesday, Mom on Thursday etc. No wonder she never stops screaming, no stability at that crucial developmental age.
Brilliant message. I wish this talk was more widely circulated. I think PEOPLE 16-25 are particularly disillusioned about a typical career.

Exactly why so many women don't wanna get married or have kids. The fact that we only have 12 weeks of family leave (and unpaid) fails many women at the workplace. I took 12 weeks off because someone had to take care of the newborn. My husband refused to take even a week off because it's unpaid so we had to dump our kid to a low quality daycare (no quality one was available at that time) when she was 3 mo old. So I chose to work minimum so that we can put her there as little time as possible.

Over idealization of motherhood in a nutshell... which results in ill adapted adults that return home after leaving bc they’ve been too sheltered to handle reality.
A men going to a job or a careers. Woman at home with children is a job or a career. A men making money doing a job or careers. Women working with children at home is a unpaid career that is disregarded and disrespected.

I dont think their being lied too but they in the sense that it won't require some sacrifice of years say a woman starts to have kids well say atleast they need full time parenting until they start primary school so 0-5 and they ahve 2/3 kids which they will ahve close to each over as parents do then that 10 years of being a full time mother well kids grow up and there are 47 years to of an adults working life if not more so the idea you cant do both is ridiculous but a sacrifice of time will need to be made if your gonna have kids, its quite simple
Great talk. But I wonder how many years we will tak about it. We talk, reasearch, talk, write but nothing changes. You cannot have it all. Imo. I wonder why the speaker her self has to be available for work all day. Its very sad.
