    AWESOME list! I am a fan of both the Sega CD & 32X as well. There were so many quality games for the add ons especially when you consider the short time they where supported. Well done. Hopefully they will get more respect now as people rediscover the platforms. I'm proud to say I have most of the games from your list.

      +Juganawt.... I owned every single Sega as a kid and up to now...fights in school, Sega vs Nintendo. Sega vs Sony... lost my job and had to sell my monster collection that took me ten years and a parents divorce (played each one off he he) to get all of them. the only one I missed was the sg-1000 and 3000 (same thing with keyboard) ohh I weeped when it was sold, but thank God for emulators, as much as purist slate them, they are a god send. I'm even betraying my younger self and playing snes, and can finally (ahem) own a neogeo.

    • @Juganawt
      @Juganawt  8 лет назад +1

      order of magnitude Emulators are great, and I don't mind playing a game through emulation, providing that the emulation is 100% cycle accurate, such as SNES, NES, Amiga etc.
      Playing inaccurate systems such as PS2, N64, Dreamcast etc via emulation are utterly worthless in my opinion, as you don't get the true experience while playing them through emulation at this current stage in time.
      That being said, I moved house a few months back and a lot of my systems are in storage, like my beloved Sega Saturn :(. Emulation, while totally imperfect and buggy, at least lets me play my collection while I hunt through boxes and hook up the real deal!

    I think the Sega CD is underated, but t's really too bad that Sega didn't add an increased color palette to the Sega CD. It would have made an obvious advantage over the Genesis alone that people could see. If the Sega CD had that and sold better, the 32X would have never been considered to be produced.

    • @yohkom.7988
      @yohkom.7988 6 лет назад +1

      +callmemarc
      I vastly disagree about the colors. It's actually fortunate that Sega didn't change the colors capabilities with the Mega-CD cuz otherwise this would have ruined the visual identity. The Mega Drive can produce great graphics and at the same time the colors restriction gives to some of the games a really cool and distinct look, Shinobi III or Thunder Force IV for example.
      In comparison, the 32X expanded color capabilities just doesn't look like Mega Drive anymore...
      In my opinion the Mega Drive graphic capabilities are underrated. The system boasts many of the most beautiful games of its time such as Sonic 1-2-3 & Knuckles, Ristar, Thunder Force IV, Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III, Flink, Panorama Cotton, Streets of Rage 2-3 or Alien Soldier and the system keeps doing strong, just check out Pier Solar or the forthcoming Xeno Crisis and Paprium!
      Also about the Mega-CD, it does have some advantages over the Mega Drive that anyone could witness such as the scaling/rotation chip or the 8 channels PCM chip. Games like Soul Star or Silpheed would not be possible on stock Mega Drive hardware which makes for a great complementarity between the Mega Drive and its CD add-on.

    • @charitykitty
      @charitykitty 6 лет назад

      callmemarc color pallet would have been really really nice...it would have required the video coming out of the sega CD though, like the 32x. I would have taken 256 colors over rotation and scrolling.

    • @MrJholshouser41
      @MrJholshouser41 6 лет назад +1

      It's trash. The story is garbage, the spells were beyond nerfed, the music wasn't much better than the 16 bit, the battle, no unique characters, town back in forth really made it boring and they couldn't even use original names. Like 17% of them are recycled. I've played SF 1, 2 and 3 and Shining in the Darkness and loved everyone of them but this felt like a cheap mobile game.
      Also, Doom? I'm a GEN guy but the music was terrible.

    • @AlexvrbX
      @AlexvrbX 5 лет назад +1

      @@MrJholshouser41 The Doom port was super rushed if you read up on the history of it. They didn't bother spending the time to properly rebuild the music for the FM/PSG/PWM combo. They didn't have the time, really, the whole thing was slapped together. Needed more time in the oven to optimize the engine and increase the display window size. Still better than the third-party port for Saturn which was awful.
      As for Shining Force CD... It *WAS* a mobile game. It's a pretty straightforward port (not remake) of the two Shining Force games for the 8-bit Game Gear, with some minor 16-bit enhancements. It was still worth playing, especially for the second game. But being built for a more limited platform, it was more primitive in design, and was never properly overhauled. It could have very easily been a cartridge release. What they should have done is built Shining Force 3 for the Sega CD. Using the hardware zoom, scale, and rotate to make it play similar to what we got later on the Saturn. Could use video overlay for the spells. Then the Saturn could have had SF 4.

    • @AlexvrbX
      @AlexvrbX 5 лет назад

      The color palette wasn't the biggest issue. They could work around that just like they always did... it didn't hold back clever developers. Certainly didn't hurt any of my favorite titles for the system. One major issue was not enough developers took real advantage of the hardware. Lots of cheap FMVs and ports. Not enough built-from-the-ground-up titles. Almost everything that took advantage of the actually-quite-decent scaling and rotation hardware and taxed the second 68K was pretty solid. Tossing in high-quality CD-A or PCM music and animated cutscenes is fine too, but full-on FMV games were mostly bad (with a few exceptions).
      The biggest issue by far, was cost. They really needed to aggressively drive down the cost of both the add-on and the base hardware, as well as offer a first-party combo unit early on that cost the same as both units separate or less. The third party hardware was outrageously expensive. Anyway yeah they'd have sold a lot more units and attracted more developers if they had kept costs down aggressively. They also needed SoJ to support the hardware more, and SoA to stop courting FMV game devs so much and focus on real games. Developer outreach / assistance programs would have helped too.
      Oh and the internal memory was too damn small. The RAM cart is a must if you played a lot of SCD games... the system should have just ditched the internal RAM and had a RAM slot from the start, bundled a decent sized RAM card.

      Sega Mega CD though? That was my jam in the early 90's. I got mine for Christmas '93 and it simply blew my socks off! I never understood why it got such a raw deal from the press, because I absolutely loved it! It's far, far more than an interactive movie player that everyone seems to suggest.

    People today don't even give credit for stealing SEGA's ideas. The power slide in SEGA Rally was stolen. Fighting Vipers was first fight game with parry moves and guard impact. Virtua Fighter had dynamic control where you could crouch and still walk towards someone, it had the first ring out game of fighters, best name enter ever where you fight initials. Shinobi had the ->-> dash move, double jump, wall jump, jump attack. And this is just the stuff I know. Sure there is lots more.
    Consoles: SEGA first controller to add more buttons, analog, triggers. First system to add online gaming as early as the Genesis. Always had the best graphics and faster system, better gameplay and sound. They put arcades out of business because their Dreamcast had better graphics than the arcade games. Even Saturn look identical with Area 51, Virtua Cop, and Xmen Vs Street Fighter. The VMU was the screen in the controller you now have. Saturn had internal memory. Even some Genesis games had internal game saves like Sonic 3.

    Although lots of people didn't like sewer shark, I really enjoyed that game because it was very innovative and different from anything. Also I'm really not sure Sonic CD had bad critics, it had the best sound and graphics from every other 2D Sonic games. Also, the 3D levels were awesome. No comparison to any other, I think it was the best.

    finally, a little recognition for MANSION OF HIDDEN SOULS...i loved that game..... voice overs were a little annoying, but it was really spooky, and of course that Golem/Hallway statue scene, always scared the crap out of everyone that fell victim to it lol... but best of all, you put maybe THE most overlooked game out there, THIRD WORLD WAR on here... you said it, that game suck you in forever...i loved playing the little battles, but taking over the world was so cool, seeing the world map just fall to your country's color as you invade countries that have no business being in wars (like poor old Canada!)...

    Where is Dungeon Explorer, The Space Adventure, Vay, The Adventures of Willy Beamish, Flink, Lords of Thunder, B.C. Racers, Robo Aleste, & Stellar Fire?

    • @Juganawt
      @Juganawt  9 лет назад +1

      Robo Aleste is #43!
      Cobra is a weird one. While I LOVE Snatcher, I couldn't get on with Cobra - the story just wasn't interesting enough to grab my attention.
      As for BC Racers, BOTH versions were considered but when I recorded footage for them, they weren't anywhere near as cool as I remembered. Same goes for Stellar Fire.
      Willy Beamish nearly made it in the list, but the loading times set it back.
      As Lords of Thunder is identical to the PCE-CD version and the PCE CD library is less crowded, I'm putting it on that list.
      As for Vay and Flink - they're ok games but I wouldn't put them in my list, so I didn't!
      I think, from now on, I'm going to start doing an "Honorable / Dishonorable Mentions segment for my videos explaining why some games didn't make the list.

    I think MK1 for Sega CD could have been here, doesn't have the color of the SNES version but it does have blood without even a code, more frames of animation, great audio quality, and is the only MK game to have the actual MK theme on the same disc/cart as the game itself. Also a little sad to see Silpheed wasn't on here, that game was great.

    • @Juganawt
      @Juganawt  8 лет назад

      MK1 would have made the list if it wasn't for: A. The horrific loading times and B. If the original MK wasn't a mediocre, broken game hidden away by a fantastic gimmick.
      Silpheed was penned in for the list until I went back and played it again to record footage. It wasn't as good as I remember it being, so I dropped it from the list.

    Dispite I don t like point and click, I totally agreed when u said the Soul Star CD is what SEGA CD could be ! By see how great is the Adventure of Batman and Robin and also Batman Returns (in the car stage)...imagine a Monaco GP maded with that engines, ( I also liked race game from SEGA Heavenly Symphony - Formula One World Championship, was great fun and epic symphony to me dispite it was not all that well made stuff...)...Sega had so much classic stuff to put in the Sega CD...After Burner (not the crappy madded with cut and past G-loc graphics), but with elements of the soul star for ex....Also, a Shinobi could be there god dammit lol, Sega was the responsable of the best 16 bit conversion of the FINAL FIGHT CD from Capcon...I had notice that another game was being maded in the same way, Cadillac and Dinossaurs from the Arcades but it was cancelled so Sega had the stuff to convert another of it classics

      ..The issue is finding the time to put them all together!
      I am in the process of recording footage for several new videos, and the first one is probably going to be a top XX list for one of the Game Boy systems, or possibly the Neo Geo Pocket, so please keep your eyes open for those!

    • @Juganawt
      @Juganawt  7 лет назад

      I did that for 4 main reasons - 1. The Sega CD boxes were bigger and therefore easier to look at on screen. 2. You can't deny that the iconic blue and white striped boxes looked version cool. 3. The majority of viewers come from the USA, so I catered for their tastes in boxart. 4. Finding high quality boxart for the full US Sega CD and 32x sets of games is far easier than finding Japanese or UK boxart.

    • @Juganawt
      @Juganawt  7 лет назад +1

      ummm....let's compare Blade Runner: one human Runner (Junker - one who looks an awful lot like the Runner in Blade Runner - even down to wearing the same clothes) Chasing down replicants that look like human beings (Bioroid Snatchers) in Neo Tokyo (Neo Kobe - and in fact, many of the graphics used in the city skyline scenes were ripped directly and identically from concept art used in Blade Runner - compare this link of Blade Runner concept art to the intro of Snatcher - bit.ly/2goPwdF , or how about this bit.ly/2fMqH8h to the Turbocycle in Snatcher).
      Terminator: Robots covered in human flesh designed to blend in with other human beings in order to assist them with their mission of eliminating key members of society.
      Nope, no similarities whatsoever ^.^
      Snatcher is basically Blade Runner and Terminator blended together. It's an unoriginal concept, but that's not to say that the game isn't amazing despite of that.

    Is there any difference (except probably the CD-Music) between the Sega-CD Version of Wing Commander and, well I dont know, the other 16bit Versions like Super Nintendo or Amiga.. By the way, whats the best Wing Commander 1 Version?

    • @Juganawt
      @Juganawt  8 лет назад +2

      +Helmut Vinaccia The Super Nintendo version was very good as well, but of course lacked speech, and it also missed the additional campaign (it was released as a standalone game on the SNES).
      The Amiga version also lacked the additional campaign and speech, but if you ran it on an A1200, it had a smoother framerate and more frames of animation than the Sega CD one, and the keyboard and joystick combination naturally gave you more precise control options than a 3 or 6 button controller ever could. The PC version is, of course, still the premier version of Wing Commander.
      In my opinion, the PC version rules the roost (forgetting "Super Wing Commander" on the Mac), Sega CD version is second best, followed by the Amiga edition (AGA), and then the SNES version sits at the back of the pack.

      Enjoy!

    #28 You say Lunar Silver Star Story. That's not accurate. The original Sega CD release was Lunar: The Silver Star. "Story" was the name of the Japanese Saturn/PSX remake, known as "Silver Star Story Complete" for the US PSX release. But to compound the naming error... the footage you show is actually from the sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue.
    Both games are top 10 for Sega CD, and for RPG fans top two usually. That's a good reason why your "no two games from same series" rule is just obnoxious and arbitrary. If the games are retreads that's fine, but if their stories, worlds, characters are unique? Why have such a ironclad rule, it's silly. You're also missing Silpheed but lots of people mentioned that already.
