      Virtual racing deluxe was such an amazing launch title for the 32X, it really showed what the hardware could do and what was to come. Plus the game just doesn't get boring and those sound tracks oh so good.

      @@Jenovi Yeah, I heavily agree to that too. The new stages are way better designed than any other ports, and the controls are supremely great. Definitely worth it for a 32x alone.
      As well, thanks for making this video. My friends didn't believe me when I say the 32x is a really great console, they just view it as the market failure it became. This video changed a few minds on it, which makes me happy.

    I really like the concept for this video, and really respect/appreciate how you continually make an effort to prop up and support other youtubers. I think that's really cool.
    Oof, I really can't stand RGT-85 though. That guy is probably the one example I pull up the most when I think of that type of retro-gaming youtuber (of which there are tons, not just him) that do a whole lot of "talking", but don't really say much. Just, way long-winded, they seem more interested in showing off their expensive game collection that *you* (the viewer) couldn't possibly ever afford, you don't learn anything new from them, and mad click-bait-y. But their videos are entirely algorithm based so they wind up frequently showing up in my recommendeds. Sorry to leave such a negative comment, Jenovi! I'm normally the type to not put it in a comment if I don't have something nice to say... :/
    Definitely gonna give the video an open-minded watch anyway, cuz I love the heck out of your videos and I know it's not in you to do a video that is anything less than great, especially if that video involves the 32x.

    • @drgribb
      @drgribb 4 года назад

      I agree with pretty much all of these! Love that folks are bringing up the music here too. Imho, most of the 32x soundtracks are incredible and criminally underrated. I think Darxide or Cosmic Carnage might be my favorite there. Or, ya know, Scottie Pippin's Slam City :P Wow, never heard of the Tempo sequel, neat!
      Probably the most frustrating thing for me about the 32x library is how expensive a lot of the games are. Like, a lot of the games that could be considered the "definitive version," that I would hope to own someday, like MKII, Space Harrier, Pitfall, etc, are so expensive these days that it's hard to justify paying for it compared to the relatively small bump in quality if one already owns the regular Genesis versions. And the "killer app" exclusives like Tempo, Kolibri, and Chaotix tend to be pretty pricey too. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy comments! Great video!

    • @arioca
      @arioca 4 года назад +2

      I agree about RGT. The reason why he is long winded and doesn't get into specifics when it comes to games is because he barely plays them, he's a collector. Many RUclips "reviewers" are known to hide their Achievements/Trophies list because viewers could see that these clickbait influencers didn't finish or played much of the games they "review", which they mostly regurgitate info from IGN or Kotaku. RGT isn't creditable for this type of video since he is a shill himself just like some video game magazines were back in the day, as mentioned in this video.

    Kolibri is at least a top 3 game imo. Some of the best pixel art to this day with beautiful music and immersive nature samples. Great gameplay and movement when you understand and get the hang of it. Perfect level of challenge that got me fist bumping after narrowly beating many of the levels. And "best hummingbird shooter on the 32x" joke aside, the premise is really imaginative and no other game really comes close aesthetically other than Ecco. This game is like a piece of fine art imo and it's a real shame so many people never gave it a chance. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

    Is this a 32X video that focuses on unique gameplay, polish, level design, sound design and things that actually matter? A 32X video that doesn't blast a Genesis Add-On for not being 60FPS Texture Mapped Polygons all the time (as if that ever happened)? Is this a 32X video that remembers Action Arcade games were the focus?
    After the death of Usenet, the absolute lack of accountability in forums (opine generators), and the disgusting advent of social media (meme and opine generators), I genuinely had no hope of a youtube video ever having this content. Bravo.
    Now, I challenge anybody to post a video placing 1st in Virtua Racing Deluxe, or plowing through Capital Ships in one pass in Shadow Squadron while staying below that 30 minute replay limit. Please?

    It is quite amazing that the 32X could run Virtua Fighter. It looks pretty smooth and I seem to remember it this way from 28 years ago. The PC version didn't play very well unless you had a P150 and at least 32MB of RAM. Think about this for a moment..................the 32X had a SUPER low 256kb of RAM and also 256kb of VRAM and only 23mhz processor speed. This is insane when you think about how well it ran most of its titles. As I said, in 1996 I was using a P120, Win 95 system with a 1 or 2mb GPU and 8 to 16MB's of RAM and that didn't produce good results for Virtua Fighter on PC. A friend was using a P120 and then a p150 in 1996-97, but he was running a stupid amount of RAM at 96MB. Had no issues at all with most games, including Virtua Fighter and X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter. Consoles can do a lot today, but it always felt like they could do just a bit more in the old days, on VERY primitive hardware. I had a 32X in 1995 and 1996, but I (stupidly) sold my entire Sega system (CD/32X/Base Console) to another friend for their kid. Needed money for college stuff, lol. Nostalgia!

    I'm just glad that T-MEK at least made it to a console, even if it was the 32X.
    Also, fun fact about WWF RAW; the 32X version had a bonus wrestler; Kwang, who was later known as Savio Vega. It was an odd choice to use Kwang, as Kwang was exclusively used as a jobber (technically a "jobber to the stars", but let's be realistic) that often was featured as a pre-show wrestler at WWF pay-per-views before his repackage.

    Good point about crappy reviews back in the day. Example is MK2 32X where I think it was Gamepro that gave it a horrible review because they were 'expecting more'. The gameplay was just about perfect (like the Genesis copy), the sound was upgraded significantly (40 additional arcade perfect sound effects including voices & yells), there were noticeable graphical improvements (especially on the characters), intro screens were added & Goro's Lair was added. Whereas the Genesis version of it was, to me, a 6.5/10, the 32X version was an 8.5/10
    Regarding Star Wars arcade- couldn't they have got better music out of the 32X/Genesis combo?

    IMO, having had a meeting with Sega only 9 months before the 32Xs launch Sega would have faired far far better if they had released the Neptune as an all in one Genesis, 32X cartridge system.
    They could have extended the life of the Genesis and ushered in the 32X as the "Super Genesis" that plays enhanced games. A much better scenario than the mushroom cap add on that we all laughed at in that meeting.
    It doesn't help either that one of the SoA reps let slip out about the Saturn.
